Hi! I wanted to thank you so much for posting this series about bleaching out henna. It gave me the final push I needed to give a try. It worked out really well for me! I have only bleached my hair twice and I’m super surprised how light it got but have found as the toner has worn off it’s gotten a bit strawberry blond in places which is not terrible but I am just wondering if yours always goes a big orange/ strawberry blonde in places even after bleaching it again/ using bleach baths. I feel like it may just always oxidize a bit and have that orange to parts of the hennaed hair as the henna oxidizes? I guess I’m just trying to figure out if it’s worth bleaching it again/ doing some heavy baby lights on the already bleached part or not to try to get the orange bits out more or if they are just gonna keep going back to orange. My hair is pretty healthy right now and I don’t want to fry it especially if it’s not gonna get rid of the orange. It’s been a month since my last bleach and I’m just trying to figure out my options! Thanks again!!
Yay! That’s awesome! 👏 I’m happy it worked for you! How light are you trying to get it? If you’re trying to get a platinum blonde then you will need to get all of the orange and most of the yellow out. If you’re just trying to cover the orange and yellow I’d suggest getting demi dye with an Ash tone and one that is a level darker than your hairs current level. I have finally got my ends platinum but I was extremely cautious and waited six months in between bleaching the ends and only highlighted the roots every month. If you bleach your hair it will have orange and yellow tones even if you bleach virgin hair. I’m not sure if the henna makes it harder to remove the orange. Maybe what’s happening is you’re using a toner that isn’t matching the level of your hair. If your toner is covering the orange and yellow for a few weeks then it’s working. They do fade with washes so the orange will always come back. Unfortunately blonde is very high maintenance and requires monthly toning. I recently went to a hairdresser and she recommended to use bleach bathes for 10 -15 minutes and space them out by a few months. Each time should lift at least one level. How often you should do it depends on how healthy your hair is. Hope this helped. And good luck ☺️
@@mauratv man I have been back and forth about going to a hairdresser to get some help. I do over all want to be lighter. I guess a kinda “rooty” platinum/ close to platinum … I’ve seen it described as a creamy or milky blonde (which sounds weird but ok 😂). Basically like highlights/ balayage with a root smudge if that make sense. Before henna I actually did this pretty well on my own at home as my natural color is light brown to dark blond so it lifts really easily … but I HADDDD to go back to henna after actually cutting it all out of my hair a few years ago … I am crazy I know. Lol. That’s why this time when it was once again going way too dark for me no matter how much I tried not to overlap it I thought I would try to bleach it out before resorting to a hair cut. I did not like having a pixie cut and growing it out was torture. 😬 I guess I’m just not used to having to bleach over already bleached hair so much and I’m a bit scared especially since what I have right now is a million times better than I expected. I also have had bad experiences with stylists as far as paying a lot of money and having a blah to horrible outcome. Like my hair looks no different to it’s just not what I like after dropping a bunch of money. I have set up a phone consult with someone who is a few hours away from me whose work looks great online. Just what I’m wanting. It maybe worth the travel/ cost to at least get a one time competent profession to start me off then I can maybe touch it up myself. Just to get it as light as I want without frying it off. At the same time I’m not often the most cautious person and I’ve got all the supplies soooooo … I may just end up doing it myself … 🤷♀️ 😂
Hi! In case anyone else with henna stumbles upon my comments here’s an update. 😂 I have since bleached my hair 3 more times. Two just highlights. Then a pretty much all over bleach about a week ago. Would not recommend a sane person do this but my hair is ok. I’m not gonna pretend like it’s completely healthy or anything cuz it’s not but it’s ok. Also I have a lot of curly long hair so it hides any breakage well. 😂 Andddd the hennaed parts continue to bleach down to a bright orange and tone out to a golden blonde which turns more strawberry orangey blonde as the toner fades. There is a distinct line of demarcation between my natural bleached roots which bleach straight white so it’s a def stain from the henna that is not gonna come out. It has gotten marginally lighter but it is still orangey. It doesn’t look terrible but just wanted to throw out my experience so others know what to maybe expect. I’ve decided to add some depth back with a more balayaged effect adding dark blonde over mostly the orange parts and it looks pretty good. I’m done bleaching the length at this point. I’m overall happy with it. A million times better than I expected it to be honestly. So many people say henna won’t lighten at all or will ruin your hair if you try to bleach it. I had 💯 BAQ henna so knew it was safe to bleach but had low expectations for it getting very light. So overall much better than I expected. Thanks again Maura for the wonderful henna removal series! Right! Unfortunately I don’t know of any stylists who will work with henna or henna dyed hair and it’s usually because of the risks of reactions from the chemicals and metals that are sometimes in certain brands of henna. Sometimes they really are just not educated on henna at all. Once you use henna you’re really left to your own devices. I like that it’s safer than the chemicals that are used for other dyes but it is a pain to remove if you want to change the color. 😅
