The Blue Steel Outlander is probably my favorite boot of all time. Im so sad theyre discontinuing it im going to have to buy a couple pairs for the next couple of years. The looks are unrivaled imo
Man those were some nice looking boots & a lot of them too. You definitely have to make a choice of what you want in them for sure. Chris yesterday video was very good about how barefoot 👣 footwear has changed your feet 🦶 man. I saw the big difference in your toes man & i can't believe that. That is so awesome man. This is why I love being barefooted 👣 or wearing flip-flops 🩴 or wearing barefooted 👣 footwear. I guess this is one reason why my feet 🦶 are extremely wide too. I hope you & Eric & family are having a good weekend buddy.
I really appreciate this video. It's been a tough consideration, but I have decided a want a set of Outlanders. I want something that is barefoot style, rugged, and not fully leather, so this seems like the best option... unless I overlooked something. Thanks guys. Keep making good content.
Sounds like the Outlander should be exactly what you're looking for. I definitely appreciate that it has some leather on the upper, but that there's other material too. Make sure to use our link if you're picking some up!
Just pulled the trigger on a pair of outlanders for work (plumbing/heating). Had a pair of Boulders previously, but the moc toe didnt hold up from all the crawling around my job entails. Had vivos which fared extremely well, but lems are the most comfortable barefoot boots ive ever worn, so im going back for another go.
You'll have to give us an update. Chris has completely worn down the tread on his first pair working as a delivery driver, but we'd definitely love to hear how the toe holds up in your line of work
Great review as always. Is there a shorter Lems hiker you’d recommend for warmer weather? I have the Boulder Grip, the Chelsea, and the Primal Zen but would like something a bit sturdier than the Primal Zen (but less bulky than the boulder grip) for wilderness hiking when it’s hot out.
Closest thing to what you're looking for is the Primal Pursuit. They have a low ankle version and we've enjoyed hiking and even trail running in it! We've got a review of it if you wanna go check it out.
Greatly appreciate the video showcasing the boots. There was a time when I was considering the primal pursuit mid, but I think I’ll end up with the boulder boot grip for more casual everyday settings and the Outlander for hiking. I’ve currently been using the primal pursuit in canyon color for trail running and it’s been great BUT I can see how the toebox makes a difference even though it’s still wider than regular shoes.
Outlander was also my first 'barefoot' boot. I like them. Lacings isn't ideal, its a bit loose but it's fine. The industry needs to rebrand 'barefoot' though, complete misnomer. Call them 'natural shape' or something...You don't wear them barefoot!! I bet more people would buy these type of shoes if they knew this.
I personally think the word barefoot works, but people interpret it wrong. It’s not meant to be worn barefoot (a lot of barefoot shoes are actually plenty comfy sockless). The point is it’s as though you are barefoot, but with protection. If more companies understood this as well and geared their shoes toward that goal we’d be in a better place with options. Your foot should be able to function inside of the shoe as if your foot were not in anything at all. That is what “barefoot” means
Hey y'all, finally picking up my african ranger and I'm pretty excited. I don't know much about leather care, however. Could you guys ever do a video about which products you recommend for maintaining your boots?
Honestly on this subject I'm just gonna defer to Jim Green. Gareth has a bunch of videos up on TH-cam about cleaning and maintaining different leather types, definitely go check those out!
I'm curious to see what they are doing with the Boulder Boot line. So many options and colorways have been or are being discontinued. In the nylon they only have the vegan option without leather side panels, which is fine, but only in black (again a fine option) but they had Navy stout, pinecone and some others that were quite nice. Nylon mids, gone. Boulder boot in black leather, gone. Midnight (black) waterproof is closing out. Makes me wonder if they are doing a redesign or if they are just narrowing down the models to the most popular colorway in each style. I'd be cool with that if it meant they could hold some stock! Makes me wish I'd have picked up an extra pair of Navy Stout while they still existed. Any suggestions on a very similar nylon boulder boot alternative?
As far as a similar nylon boot... Totally drawing a blank, I really don't think there's anything comparable on the market. I know the Grip outsole isn't everyone's favorite, but I love it and have been hoping they're taking those old colorways (especially the navy stout!) and turning them into waterproof Grip variants.
@@sonsofsever Right, they seem pretty unique. I don't hate the idea of the girps and actually love my Boulder Boot Grip it is just that the eva midsole is a combination of not dense enough and slightly too thick causing it to mold to my foot. If it were like 70 shore a, that wouldn't be an issue but at 45ish it seems to compress under my right lateral arch at the backside near my plantar facia and causes discomfort. Harder, denser material like leather and even eva/cork like on birks doesn't bother my feet. Straight eva seems to. As an aside, I'd love to see a premium leather boulder boot that is unlined with a Vibram or Michelin outsole. Anyway, I can get away with my grips for a few hours but my feet ache from the squish after that. I am glad they offer a boot for everybody though!
I have the Boulder boot grip, but its a too warm for Southern California winter hiking. I love the comfort and feel but I do most of my hiking in Ojai California and its too warm. I am going to sell them and try a more breathable pair. Any suggestions?
We really like the primal pursuit. Low ankle and mesh top for breathability, but the traction pattern is the same as the mid waterproofing pattern we showcase here in this video. We have a review of it if you wanna check that out. I’d go with that
I really like the Boulder Summits, but the toe box is a little too tight for me. What other similar style boots can you recommend with a little more room?
@@lemnefresh I think the closest you're gonna get is something from Be Lenka. Our experience with their boots that we've tried, the Ranger 2.0 and the York, have been really good. They're noticeably more minimal underfoot with a lot more ground feel, but their toe box is amazing if you're looking for a little more space there. They have a ton of other options too outside the ones we've tried. There are even wider boots like the Softstar Switchback, but it's kinda ugly and it's not waterproof. There's also Realfoot, but those push into clown looking because of how wide their toe boxes are. That's why we'd suggest Be Lenka; wider but still good looking, waterproof, and priced really well too.
Yeah those both look awesome! I know we've reached out to Groundies before specifically for the Williamsburg, it's tough with European countries sometimes because of the shipping, but hopefully someday we can get our hands on them!
I really like the look of the Boulder Grip but they just weren’t wide enough and the height at mid foot was tight, also tried to plus up in size but still didn’t work. I went with the Chelsea waterproof and they are amazing but I just wish they would build a boulder grip with this width sole.
Yeah the Boulders definitely aren't for every foot unfortunately. They fit ours just fine, but the Chelsea isn't a bad way to go at all, love that boot!
hello, would you say that the boulder summit waterproof boot would be good for a job? I work at in n out and have been wanting to switch to a zero drop wide toe box work boot because there are days when I am bending over a grill for six hours straight and my back is hurting by the end of the day. the requirements are that they have to be non-slip. are these non slip? also do you think these could hold up to the job, because my work boots go through a lot; hot melting cheese drips on them, spread, i step on a lot of food, they are constantly getting wet if i work a closing shift and have to wash the dishes by hand. please let me know what you think or what would you think would be a good barefoot work shoe out of your reviews
@@skippersam2760 I think the Kourt Grip might suit you better. I think the grip outsole is more suited to working in a restaurant environment than the Summit outsole. The Kourt is still full grain leather, still zero drop, I bet the toe box feels a little wider too because there's no waterproof membrane, and it's much more in line with the sneakers I see employees at in n out wearing. If you're really looking for a boot though, the Summit isn't a terrible option at all, I think it would work.
I'm looking to get either the boulder summit or boulder grip but how long does the outsole last I had a pair of solomans and didn't like that they didn't last more than 6months and have plenty of life left just the outsole is almost completely gone is places
@@Idopainting Chris wore through his first pair of Outlanders (same outsole as the Summit) in about 6 months, putting 2000 tracked miles on them, but he wore them 5 days a week on pavement and hard surfaces at his delivery job that entire time. @@sonsofsever oh ok so they last ages then I had a pair or solomans and I don't think I got more than 200kms out of the outsole underneath is almost completely flat in parts
I’m wanting to try the Lems out. I typically wear Altra lone peaks. So wide toe box and high arches is my thing. Between the Summit and the other Boulders? Which one would you recommend? For work.
So i work in downtown Cincinnati in an office setting, but i live in the country and hike miles several times a week in the woods around a state lake ( 32 miles around) i want something i can do both in
One of the Boulder Boots in our opinion would be perfect for that. The Summit is a bit beefier and does really well on trails, the Grip has a bit more barefoot feel to it but still pulls its weight on hikes. Both look great in office/nice date/church situations!

I have the Mesa, Chelsea waterproof, and Chilliums. Lems are life changing and I’ve gotten so many people on board with them.
Do they last a long time I do a fair bit of walking and want something durable especially for the price

Let's rebrand tennis shoes, too. I've caught people walking in them, even saw someone grocery shopping once. It was disgusting.
