    That Euro Fighter aircraft looks great and I would have enjoyed seeing them in person. The KC-135 tankers have been around for a very long time and I remember them from the Vietnam War era when they was constantly taking off and coming back home after a mission.

    There is no KC-130 shown in this video. The USAF does not fly a KC-130 (The USMC does) the aircraft shown were a mix of C-130 transports & MC/HC-130 Special Operations aircraft.

    Interesting video. Also interesting is that a C-5 hit a 135 for a top off (probably for training.) The main reason the KC-10 exists today is because of the excessive tankings the KC-135 had to do for the C-5 over the Atlantic and Mediterranean during the '73 Mideast war.

    Fun fact: Back in the late 1970's when I started my career as a navigator in the KC-135A (....and into the 1980's), we used water-injection into the engines to provide more thrust (about 90 seconds of water injection on take-off roll and climb-out) for heavy-weight take-offs.

    I have seen this refueling fly over where I live in NW PA. Always an interesting site to see. Over PA here, the refueling would occur at 3 to 4 miles up usually with the C5 being refueled.
    Speaking of refueling here, it would be fascinating if I could see a jet being refueled at 30000+ feet leaving behind a thick vapor trail of the combined jets whether the plane being refueled be a C5, B52, a fighter jet, etc.

  • @gusgone4527

    An RAF Vulcan pilot who took part in the Falkland Islands raids mused, that inflight refuelling was like: "Trying to remotely slip a piece of limp spaghetti up the arse of an angry tom cat. With success or failure being a matter of life and death."

    The comment about refueling two aircraft at once, from the wing tips, is wrong. The KC-135 can only refuel from the boom.

    • @msc6227
      @msc6227 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No, it is not, a KC 135 can receive the Multi-point Refueling Systems (MPRS) modification which adds refueling pods to the KC-135's wings. The pods allow refueling of U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and most NATO tactical jet aircraft while keeping the tail-mounted refueling boom. The pods themselves are Flight Refueling Limited (FRL) MK.32B model pods, and refuel via the probe and drogue method common to USN/USMC tactical jets, rather than the primary "flying boom" method used by USAF fixed-wing aircraft. This allows the tanker to refuel two receivers at the same time, which increases throughput compared to the boom drogue adapter.

      It is one of the most important parts of the modern U.S. Air Force. It pretty much makes the combat range of any aircraft unlimited. Let’s say an F-16 fighter jet still has some missiles to fight with, but it’s almost out of fuel. Instead of going all the way back to base and ending the mission, it could air refuel and continue to fight.
