- This one is crazy! It's all over the place! So many twists and turns! Anyway, International Superstar Soccer is the much better soccer game on this console. It's so refreshing to play this after wanting to fall asleep playing FIFA.

Thab's hair changes throughout this video are wild.
I am hoping for this to be the most discussed topic of the video, haha!
The soccer hair 😂
You're looking at like a year and half difference between everything lol
I felt that😇
What do you mean?
How can you not even mention the absolutely AMAZING menu music?!! It does an amazing job of getting you pumped up to play.
The menus/ UI was also quite well designed and easy to use, with these surprisingly expressive animated emoticons indicating current player health.
8:32 Surferboi
8:34 *PETRUS OF THOROLUND*
11:31 some kind of Furby
As someone who watches soccer it is incredibly entertaining to watch someone who doesn't, play and commentate on what's happening.
I love it, Thab's choices of words are always entertaining.
How was that not offsides!
Jikkyo Soccer 3 confirmed to be the inspiration behind the Human Centipede
these animations are surprisingly good for an N64 game
And a very early N64 game from 1996 at that (97 for the North American version)! The menu music was also amazing, and the UI itself was actually quite well designed and easy to use. This was a very well made game.
It was actually a pretty well known and popular game in multiple regions outside of North America, especially Europe.
The ISS and PES for the SNES, N64, and PS2 library are just legendary. You said there was debate between them and FIFA. Not on N64. Konami crushed it at the time.
PES was by far the best series stretching into like 2013. rapidly lost its crown tho
In reference to the title number issues: The reason I like this series is "and I mean all of them!". I want to see them all, in my eyes you FOUND a discrepancy that fixes the list to be more complete. To me that's what matters most, to be complete.
yea it’s actually even better!
HAHAHA, RONALDINHO SAUCER!!!
We''ll forgive you on the technicality of playing the soccer games out of order. This series is excellent. I love watching it since I did grow up with the N64 and I couldn't have played more than 50 of them so this series is very informative and entertaining. Excellent job, Thab!
Wrestlemania 2000 is just as incredible as No Mercy, you'll have fun. Well, you probably did have fun like 2 years ago when you played it for the challenge.
No mercy had a much better single-player mode. Both were lots of fun multiplayer, but sadly he doesn't do that.
definitely a great game still- it’s to No Mercy as World Tour is to Revenge!
The original ISS on the SNES was so great! The fluidity amazed me at the time.
98 was my life around the World Cup. 🇨🇴 on the cover❤️
This was my soccer game. I spent hours and hours playing the world league. When you beat the world league you get to play against the all star's team which is basically the best players in one team.
My footbsll game was Fifs 94 and Fifa 98/99. Oh, those were the times! I misse them! We played them 1vs 1 on the same console and TV, using two controllers, one each, on N64 or PS1. Ive heard nothing but praise for this game tough.
Yep..I wish he had looked at the instructions first...He wasn't curling the ball, using the one two button..Through balls in their etc etc..ISS 2000 is still a great game today..
5:50 maybe somebody already explained in chat at the time, but offsides in soccer happens when a pass is made to a person who is standing past the last defender at the time that the ball leaves the passer's foot (not including the goalkeeper).
beat me to it
Okay, now explain the post goal human centipede 12:50
@@GoondocksCastle that's actually a thing, google "soccer celebration centipede"
Lmao
😂
Yeah, I made a comment about the same timestamp and issue above. Also (you probably forgot since its so rarely happens): It is not offside if the player is on his own half when receiving the pass.
This game actually looks very good for the time.
Props to Thab for taking account of unexpected developments like missing games. A big reason I've been following this series these past years is because I'm interested in seeing all the N64 had to offer so I appreciate the commitment to showing it all, even the mistakes. Also 16:52 LMAO
Ok FYI Wrestlemania 2000 and VPW2 are sibling games with totally different rosters. VPW 2 is All Japan licensed plus features altered versions of wrestlers from other Japanese promotions and MMA groups as well. They are different game modes, WM 2000 has cage matches while VPW2 has MMA rules. Their main quest is also a bit different as well. I would probably make these separate entries, but either way both games are awesome so enjoy.
Yeah I would agree that Wrestlemania 2000 and VPW 2 are quite different (even in gameplay, VPW 2 had the MMA striking and things like that), certainly their "story modes" are a little different for sure (the VPW 2 one taking you through a year of All Japan's shows and events vs The Road to Wrestlemania), but obviously at this point there's not much sense in telling Thab to make it separate, since he probably finished these games about a year ago and the video's probably been done for a while now too.
@@ADoseofBuckley very true, hopefully he does full play throughs on both especially with the unlocks from VPW2 like Andre and the Funks.
@@ADoseofBuckley Oh shit...the man, they myth, the legend himself, Buckley! Agreed, both can be super long though, they aren't story modes you finish in one sitting, so I imagine it was a long session for him putting them into one video.
As a huge wrestling fan, I am so excted for the _WWF WrestleMania 2000_ video. If you've never played it before, you're in for a treat.
Finally a game worth waiting an entire week for!!! Please do a video over 25min!!! Wrestlemania2000 deserves it, proabably my favorite game growing up since I barely ever came across no mercy.
There are three referees in the game and each one is different. One is balanced, another lets all pass and the third one gives you a card for even the slightest foul. This was the only sport game I had for the N64 and I really enjoyed it.
is that in the manual? I never really noticed that in 98
@@sc3ku I don't remember but I think it wasn't? It's something that you started noticing after playing it for a while.
@@sc3kuISS 98 was when this series really took off..I still play ISS 2000 today..I hope he plays the euro version when he gets there as it has the CAREER mode..
ah yes, raging at referee's decisions... nothing beats this
I didn't think I recognized this game until I saw how powerful the sliding kicks are in this game. Then I remembered playing it as a kid. Wild how you can get basically full-power shots while sliding.
12:53 human centipede
yeah that was weird
I thought exactly the same thing hahaha
Great video, as always, really enjoying this project!
I used to play this all the time, and I think it's held up pretty well still. My personal score is probably still like an 8/10. :) The English commentator's (Tony Gubba) mood changes are epic.
lol the “offsides” rage at 5:50
This game was actually so far ahead of its time. I spent more time than any other game playing this ISS series. The players are copies but they didn't have licences for names so would spend hours updating. you can also manually control keepers which makes it tough!
I love the fake names for the athletes. This brings me back
I always thought of ISS/Pro Evolution as the game for people who love video games and like football. Whereas FIFA is the series for people who love football and like video games.
and Football Manager is for maniacs
It wasnt even close..ISS was miles better than Fifa..
@@sc3ku Football Manager is for people who love football more than life itself.
who knew N64 soccer games would make an absolute banger of a vid. Well play beast
Can we talk about how San Francisco Rush racing down that hill with those jumps at the end looked like a scene directly from San Francisco Rush?
Loved the commentary! It really made the video a lot more enjoyable! Keep it up!
With Thab discovering the new game, looks like he will just have to start over so his run isn’t tainted.
True
That’s pretty awesome! Wrestlemania 2000 is honestly one of my favorites even over no mercy in my eyes! And got the other Japanese counterpart and we will have a most excellent episode next Friday!!
I loved this game as a kid, cant believe it has been 27 years
Hey, this is a 9/10 for me. I think the through pass depends on the quality of the stats of the player if I recall correctly. Also, my finest weapon was the loop/chip goal. You run to the keeper, when they come after you, you go a little to the side and the push left C.
Yeah this game has loads more to it than he showed..Looking forward to when he gets to ISS 2000..My all time favourite football game
5:50 Thab not knowing what offsides is 😆
No one knows what offsides is in America, no one cares
@@pepeepupoo I mean, I'm in America. But I am also a no one, so that checks out
Yeah, I think the N64 ISS titles usually had a J-League variant. The main difference between them is that you instead get the Japanese league sides as opposed to national teams and the league on that is probably less brutal.
When you get to ISS 2000, try the European one as it has a Success Mode like Puwapuro.
I still play that career mode today
"These guys are playing the wrong kind of football" love the commentary
I remember when I was waiting on you to make it to SHADOWMAN for what felt like an eternity, nowadays it's OGRE BATTLE 64.
"Damn, its 1996 and we have this crazy state of the art 3d processing engine! What sort of games should we make to fully utilize this hardware?"
Wrestling
Soccer
Mahjong
Racing games that are moving too fast
Another banger. Love you my dude!
Wrestlemania 2000 is not a clone of Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 at all. They just share the same engine. One major difference is Virtual Pro Wrestling has a separate shoot fighting grappling system that is meant to mimic MMA.
12:56 Agghh that the *human centipede*
Thab should do commentary for Starcraft Brood War. His commentary on sports games makes them entertaining, considering that almost every one looks and plays fairly the same
Nope..This game was amazing
"There are not many sports games on N64"
XD this guy is a comedian....Sports is one of the few strengths ofthe N64 catalogue
Can’t wait for the next episode!! WWF Wrestlemania 2000 was the goat back in the day. 🔥
0:04 wait, i never noticed that 😮
As always, great commentary from thab ❤
This was a great game..So many different moves you can pull off.. and strategies to employ
what is that thumbnail
Wdym its thabulous
Hes tired. Playing N64 video game changes a man lol.
It's called art
It changed while I was watching the video lol 😂
I forgot to add it for like 2hrs lol
Even as a Scotsman “Polish Aggression” is just not a term…
Rabanilli (Ravanelli) scores in the end!!! 😂 🇮🇹
Never try to enter the world of naming conventions of Konami Football games.
They started with International Super Star soccer, but then changed it to Winning Eleven but at the same time then changed it to Pro Evolution Soccer but at the same time it was called Winning Eleven Pro Evolution Soccer in other places.
Also both games coexisted on the six gen, until WE/PES became the game that will compete with FIFA.
Konami actually had two separate series of soccer games being released simultaneously. The International Superstar Soccer aka Jikkyo World Soccer series by Konami Osaka, and the Winning Eleven aka Goal Storm aka ISS Pro aka Pro Evolution Soccer series by Konami Tokyo.
The Osaka games were more arcadey while the Tokyo games went for simulation/realism. ISS died after 2002 though.
I played international superstar soccer 2000 a lot with my dad. It was a great sports game for its time.
The fact that every single time thab can he will implement a play by play sports commentary format leads me to believe he secretly wants to be a sports commentator lol
I love all your different wigs! I support your cause!
YES! YOU'RE FINALLY GOING TO PLAY A GOOD GAME NEXT! PLAY AS THE BLUE MEANIE!!! MEANIESAULT!!!
What do you mean...This was a great game
@@markmorris7123 you're right, it was!
Wait, do you mean WrestleMania 2000, or the one he just played?
@@0newingedcrowthe one he just played,, especially when he gets to ISS 2000.. I remember I had a great wrestling game..I can't remember which it was though
I use to be able to score by corner kicks by curving it in... use to drive my brother insane.
Yes, the curving mechanics are pretty broken. You can also do that in normal play if you just run to the outside and cross the ball and curve it at the last second. Even on the hardest difficulty the goalies can't deal with that 😄
@@uselessDM This was the way to get through the scenarios on level 5 difficulty. 3-2-5 custom formation, push the wingers to the byline. Top c through balls, feed the wingers, sprint to the byline, shoot, little razzle dazzle with L or R at the last moment. Goalie on his knees scooping up air.
@@bacontrout Yes, the keeper scooping the air is really ingrained in my brain.
@@bacontroutnot so easy in multiplayer, and you choose to control the Goalkeeoers
After you mentioned the wiki page and the 40 winks game I went to take a look at the list because I was curious and I noticed that there’s another game for the n64 released a year ago called Xeno Crisis, are you gonna play that as well? There also seems to be 2 other games that are planned to be released at some point.
i need these videos more than once a week xD
Heck yes I have this game but never really truly figured out the controls so now I can have you do that for me
This is my favorite YT sports game series
Yay, another video to watch!!! :)
Love the sport narration voice 😂
I am eating every donut, and I mean all of them! The twist is the next donut is randomly selected so I'm I'll have no idea what's coming next. This is the journey to getting diabetes
Hell yes Wrestlemania 2000 I been waiting for this
played the absolute shit out of this game when it was new. 4 player matches non stop. It was so good.
can;'t wait for some real games. your commentary makes these sports games tho thad keep it up bro
ISS 98 was a big part of my childhood, so I'm looking forward to that on. And to ISS 2000, because that has some kind of RPG mode, that'll be fun 😄
You can actually curve the ball in ISS 64 with the joystick too. Moving it after you play a high pass for example, changes the cross on the ground where the ball will land
love the series and hey if there is one more game added to the fun then great; I know the WWF Wrestlemania 2000 was recorded probably 2 years ago but imo it and Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 don't have very much in common other than being on the same game engine, should be treated as different games but still next week should be fun. Both are great games.
Dang, so many clones.
Also, do you think you could still include the marble race where Jikkyo World Soccer 3 won in your game 216 video, please? They’re fun to watch and that one had some fun lead changes.
WWF Wrestlemania 2000 is the game that got me into wrestling when I was little, I really can’t wait to watch that one next week!
Looking forward to next week, really enjoyed mania 2k😊
The mario party clip in the intro makes me chuckle every time
I remember the TASes of the SNES International Superstar Soccer where they do everything they can to confuse the game, like for example get every player ejected and force the goalie to do all the scoring himself IIRC. (Or is that from the whoisthisgit video on the game?)
Surprisingly still holds up visually, the animations, UI and music are quite charming, way better than the sterile and boring realistic soccer games.
12:53 Did... did this game somehow predict the existence of human centipede??
Ayyyy finally WrestleMania 2000! WM2000 and VPW2 are both incredible wrestling games, still top tier by today's standards...but man are you in for a long one. WM2000's Road to WrestleMania mode ("Story" mode) can take ages. Then again you probably know this already.
I used to love this game! Great memories
During corners you can adjust the hight of the blue triangle thing to get a high cross when you push up and down on the joystick respectively.
I was team ISS and scolded Fifa players at the time. Somehow it feels so good that you acknowledge my case. I'm old btw..
Really..? Back then is dont remember anyone thinking Fifa was better...Not untill the later console generations did it become a debate
Both of these games have great soundtracks!
FINALLY! I LOVE THIS SERIES. The best sports series on N64, by a mile IMO. Better than Fifa in this era.
Not just IMO,, it was objectively FAR better than fifa.. Gameplaywise ISS 2000nis still really good game today
Blast Corps teaaase at the end.... Gimme BLAST CORPS!
Oh hell yeah WrestleMania 2000 is STILL in my N64
No mercy was my jam. So much time on that as a teen at youth group gatherings
You could tackle the goalkeeper after they kicked it, and then shoot from miles out and score. The refs never gave a foul. This game is a classic
6:45 the goalie thought this was a bowling game apparently
I used to love this game as a kid here are some tips:
you take the ball from the opposing players form any position with the A button no foul
any slide from behind with C left is automatic red card
yes, through passes with C up are a major thing for this game.
Allejo is the best player in the game
when you are in defense and the opposing team is coming at you and you are following him and you find a player with better position, send the player you are controlling in opposite direction, the game will automatically give you control of the other player.
there are more advanced plays but those are the basics i know
Also you can choose to control a different player by pressing one of the buttons
12:51 Konami predicted The Human Centipede.
USA doesn’t “suck at soccer”, we’re ranked 11th in the world and only getting better.
6:54 OFFSIDES!!
Human centipede celebration at 13 minutes lmao
My N64 in Brazil came in a bundle with this game and a golden controller for the World Cup, I don't recall if I got it on 1998 (before/after WC) or at the end of 1997, I loved that controller and played this game ad nauseam LOL
That's awesome, I would love to see that controller lol!
They forgot all my favorite soccer stars, like Arriaga, Arriaga 2, Barriaga, Arruglia, and Bizotsa
This games soundtrack went hard
This game does have great graphics! I’m surprised it looks so good being that early in the console’s life span.
Best soundtrack ever!
Ah yes, the bootleg of Hahaha! Rrrrrrronaldinho Saucerrrrrrr!
