    Definitely intersted to hear more about the newer/modern sprinklers. Back in the 90's a local department store (Ann & Hope in RI) started carrying Gardena when nobody in the US had ever heard of them. My mom bought a few of the quick connects and nozzels back then when I was a kid and I've been using their products myself ever since. I did have one of their sprinklers in the early 2000s but destroyed it by leaving it full of water in the shed one winter.

    Thanks for the video! And yes, please review the Gardena products! I live in Europe and buy most of the water-related stuff from Gardena. It lasts the seasons, color doesn't fade and I love their watering systems for smaller gardens and plants as well. I use some of their digital watering computers, easy to setup and works flawlessly but would love to see you review some of their sprinklers! -Whenever something stops working or a hose suddenly disconnects due to water-pressure, it's always the products _not_ from Gardena - so gradually, my garden is becoming 100% Gardena products. As you say, yes, they are a bit pricier but you get what you pay for! Keep it up! :)

    I've had 2 gardena hose reels installed in my garden for over 2 years. They stayed outside for the entire length of my ownership and held up really great. I expected them to degrade or discolor over the period, because of the intense sun here in Sri Lanka. However, I'm happy to say they haven't. I actually bought another one about a month ago and i could not tell the difference of color by just looking at them - in the sun, everything discolors, and i was genuinely surprised to see they haven't discolored at all. Even the connectors are working like brand new. I really don't buy anything other than gardena, because they offer great value - it's expensive but you see the value overtime. I can't remember how many hose reels and hoses i went through before buying the gardena.

    This seems like a really good product that is well made, but as of Sep 2022 this is listed for $259 plus tax which is an awful lot of money for a 50ft hose on a reel. For comparison, you could get a good quality lightweight 50ft fabric hose and a reel for less than 1/3 the price of this Gardena unit.
    Granted that a separate hose and cheap reel won't be nearly as good a user experience as this Gardena product. But in the current age of inflation and high prices crimping our budgets, the Gardena reel doesn't seem to be feasible or within reach for most of us.

    • @jimb8601
      @jimb8601 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Thank you for the review. We purchased a Hoselink product in 2022 and are very impressed. Have you compared Hoselink to Gardena in terms of these retractable hoses and/or other products?

    • @SilverCymbal
      @SilverCymbal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The hoselink is excellent and I have shared a video on that one also. The main differences are the hoselink uses a large diameter hose and that can be a big advantage but they don't have a free standing model like this. So the real choice is in the mounting and the flow. Both are fantastic choices but if you love the portability of the screw design go with the Gardena, if you need larger flow and are OK to mount it the Hoselink will provide more flow.

    • @vuchaser99
      @vuchaser99 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the response comment... I find tamhat equally helpful. I will state upfront I got the 82ft Hoselink and love it, but it only covers half my home. When I saw this auger setup I was excited as I use them ALL over my yard for stand alone posts: birdhouses, feeders, mailbox, weather station/anemometer post. No concrete!!! Simple twist and leveling. I am considering this for the other side of the home... because otherwise I get a second mount for the otherwise of the home (using a post as I have siding and stone)... and don't want to use concrete to set a post. If this unit came in 100ft. I would risk having two full product lines...but 50ft feet at that cost point may push me away. Seeing a sprinklers review deep dive given the timers would be intriguing. A new home is keeping you Uber busy with cranking out the videos.

    Check your hose connectors. I bought 2 of those hose reels and on one of them the hose came off. After inspecting the connectors on both hoses, I found out that they were only halfway in and came loose. I'm lucky that this happened while someone was at home or I would have lost a lot of rainwater.
    After fixing the connectors I can only recommend those post-mounted hose reels.

    • @GardenaCan
      @GardenaCan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there, those hose end connectors are sometimes not tightened all the way from the factory and/or come loose on the way to the U.S from Germany. So they could definitely use a quick check up before use. Thank you for bringing that up!

    @SilverCymbal there is a version of this (exactly the same) but with a gray and black color scheme, which should have matched better with a traditional house, not sure if this version is available in the US though. oh and at least per specs, those reels are supposed to be "Frostsicher" (freeze proof) but sure winterizing them for the winter will significantly extend their lifespan.
    last but not least an "insider tip" about Gardena products- Gerdena is a German brand and they have *many* (hence not all) very high quality products, but make sure before you buy that the specific item is "Made in Germany", since Gerdena also manufacturer some of their stuff in lower-wage countries, nevertheless usually the real good stuff is still kept under German production.. so if it's not "Made In Germany" expect it to be their lower-end line (regardless of what your "Home depot" sales person tells you). greetings from Germany

    I need a 200’ hose reel. I’ve found only one, sold by Big Sprinkler in Oklahoma. If anyone knows another, please reply. Thanks.

  • @jessefig5281
    @jessefig5281 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great! Now I can’t decide between this or the Hoselink. This has 1/2 inch hose and the Hoselink has a 5/8. Based only on the hose size alone which would be better for a home garden? Wish the spike was sold on the 100 ft

    • @SilverCymbal
      @SilverCymbal  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its easy, if you CAN mount a reel on the hose the hoselink will be a better choice th-cam.com/video/WhrRq6ChdIY/w-d-xo.html or Gardena's version is 100 feet but a smaller hose. BUT if you want quick and easy and instant install , this amzn.to/3QasHY1 is impossible to beat. Hoselink at this time has no freestanding offering like this so it really comes down to the install choice, but both are great choices.

    I like this conceptually but would be concerned about possibly puncturing an irrigation line during installation.

    • @theprofessordad9456
      @theprofessordad9456 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly what I was going to say. Especially given that you obviously are installing this near the faucet, and in my case, that's where my sprinkler system is installed as well and lots of outgoing pipes there.

    Question for you.....our entire lot is sand. Do you think this would hold in the ground or would it end up coming loose because of constantly pulling on the hose (pun intended).

    • @TruthWidgets

    I wonder if you’re able to add those expandable hoses into the unit? Also, I wonder if you can add a 100’ expandable hose into the 50’ swivel version since it shrinks down heavily when the water is drained out.

    • @GardenaCan
      @GardenaCan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, unfortunately the unit isn't modular. You have to stick with the hose that's shipped within the unit.

    Is there a way to lock this model to keep it from spinning in the wind or a storm? I’d rather not have to the the hose inside every time it might rain.

    • @SilverCymbal
      @SilverCymbal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question, no there isn't a lock anf it spins freely but not too freely so I am not sure the wind alone will do it.

    • @GardenaCan
      @GardenaCan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes good question, but it would have to be a tornado to spin the reel enough to cause damage. :)

      @@GardenaCan thank you for the response! I ask because I was looking at the house mounted options, and in the Southeast US we quite often get violet afternoon storms that would likely damaged this product or the house.
