Personally, I got tired of dragging long garden hoses all over my 5 acres. So I took the time and effort to dig trenches and run PVC pipes to all the different areas where I need water at and put in the outside water faucet that doesn’t freeze in the cold winter weather. Now 10-25 ft of hose gets me anywhere I need to water. Working on putting in auto/timer water system in the gardens so there’s little to no hand watering needs too! Try to cut labor times down as much as possible to have more time for other projects that also need done too!
I’m surprised I made it almost to the end but when he started showing the hose splitters and the short section buried at the gate, I could take it any more. Too much talking about random stuff. The 17 min video was a hose reel review? I have pvc everywhere with 25 ft hoses…
Lol, the “nice” at 9:20 is the sound of a supportive wife who’s trying to act as excited as you are about hoses. I hear that “nice” whenever I talk about lawn care to my wife too :)
Same here. Funny thing is they love nice grass but don't care how you made that happen. The thing is (and my wife doesn't know this) I keep the nice lawn for me, lol...not her!
Dramm Quick connects have been fantastic through heavy use. Each end of our three hoses has a quick connect (so two per hose). Plus, the Dramm 300 shut off valve on each tasking end of the hoses. Every hose attachment gets a male end quick connect (sprinklers, watering timers, watering wands, single task hose nozzles, etc). It is no longer a task to do any water work, all seemless. Taking the hoses in for winter storage is a breeze! This is the third season and I recommend them.
We have been using Gardena quick-connects with everything for well over a decade and they work as well now as when we first bought them. All of out hoses, the automatic watering system and the pressure washer all have them and even our Craftsmen lawn mower has a compatible spigot pre-installed for self-cleaning.
4:28 thanks for the shoutout! The Eley hose reel is amazing! I don’t have a specific video like a review yet (one is planned). I’ll send you what I do have though that showcases it.
Instead of buying more awful plastic garbage, I got myself a Jack Daniels half barrel from Lowe's and drilled a hole to feed the hose through. Coiling the hose up in there is super easy, it looks much nicer in the yard than any plastic reel and when it rains the backyard smells faintly of aged whiskey.
I am absolutely in love with my Hoselink! I smile just looking at it. Such a relief! I hate coiling hoses even more than the trip hazards they make. Now I have no hose trip hazzards and no coiling! AHHHHHH!
Gardena GBR-3817C Brass Tap End Connector Gardena GBR-3818C Brass Hose Connector w/Waterstop GARDENA Tap Connector-Premium. All metal versions of the quick connects you know, with replaceable o-rings you can buy at any hardware store.... two years not an issue in sight. They're actually hard to find now that they've been discontinued, and I'm glad you said you're not going cheap anymore cause these cost a pretty penny.
I have quick disconnects on my hoses. I highly recommend making the hose part the part that you pull back the retaining collar. If you have to pull the retaining collar back on the wall spicket (however you spell it), it takes longer and is a pain.
I have 3 Eley hose reels. Two free standing and one pole mounted. They are expensive, but they are built like tanks. My oldest reel is probably 8 years old. I leave them out in the winter and they are still in great shape.
I installed a new Eley last week. It’s epic. Eley hose is also epic. They have quick connects too. Have not tried them but I’m sure they are equally epic.
Amen Brother!! Last fall, I finally got fed up with the Suncast piece of crap (box reel) from the local hardware! It leaked from day one. I began investigating options. I looked online at the very same model you destroyed at the beginning of your video. Lol! Reviews pointed out how that model also leaks... I happened on to Eley!! The rest is history! I ordered the reel, 100' of their hose, the quick disconnects, and all their nozzles. Absolutely satisfied!! Incredible quality! I mounted mine parallel on the lower deck structure. 👍🍻 No leaks! Period! Oh yeah! Never a kink with their hoses!!! 😃
I just switched to the Banjo and they are the best quick connects out there. Based on their commercial connects but made for garden hose. I was so tired of using quick connects that were almost harder than screwing them together! These did it!!!!
Nice video. I’m wary of anything closed in like a box around a hose. Wasps. But I would imagine it would extend the life of your hose as the sun wrecks havoc! Not sure but I kinda prefer the open one with a handle. Less that can go wrong
You can also buy a flexzilla short 6’ hose extension they have smaller ends that will help get it through the hole. I love flexzilla also worth the money
I bought a reconditioned kindle. dropped into my nightstand & it quit working. Was at tractor supply and found recharge lights on closeout. it lasted 3 weeks. then bought same brand diff model for $25 more, still doing job after 18 months.
I love my b hyve system. Been using it for 2~3 years now. For manual turn on, Just push & hold the button for like 3~5 secs. Then water will flow for 10 minutes and will turn off after 10 mins.
Those were some solid cuts you were taking with the pickaxe. I had my fingers crossed you wouldn't hit the siding on your house. Those are some sweet hose reels. I know how important it is to keep your hose in line. The littlest tool is getting big!
This Flexilla hose reel is made by Legacy it is top notch stuff. I had a Craftsman ( Legacy ) air hose reel for years and I love it so much that I just purchased a Flexilla ( Legacy ) 3/8" X 75' air hose reel. These units are amazingly durable and repair parts are readily available if ever needed. Don't let the plastic housing fool you, these units are tough! Made in America quality too. My next purchase will be a Flexilla water hose unit like yours. Congrats. Good decision.
I have the Eley free standing version for about 7 years. Left it out in the winter 2x. Little discoloration on the legs but it is still a working like it came out of the box
Get the quick connects from obsessed garage. They are expensive but worth it! I’ve had mine for 3 years with no problem. Have them on everything including my pressure washer.
I live in Florida, near Tampabay. I try never to have anything made of plastic outdoors unless I want to replace it on a regular basis. I have two other types of retractable reels. A 50-foot electrical and a 50-foot air compressor hose. Both are mounted in my garage. You didn't mention, I believe, the size of your yard. That first scene sure got a ton of comments. Like the beginning of a good action movie.
Going on year 2 with our Hoselink reel, and absolutely love it! No assembly, just hanging it up, and no reeling, it does it for you!! And the B-hyve is a must have for the sprinkler/watering system. We use it with our sprinklers and our drip systems.
I have a Flexzilla hose, I wish they didn’t make it fluorescent green, I like it to be dark green like a normal hose color, plus this one stays looking dirty if it get dirty. I also have the eley hose reel, but they dont make my model anymore- their claim is they have 10 year warranty. Not sure what it is now. But I had mine for about 15+ years already. Still working great.
I’ve been checking out the Eley to. Extra capacity holds 150-200 yards. Will probably commit to something soon. Done with cheap flexible hoses. The old plastic hose reel house my father gave is more reliable than them. And nice garden 😁
I have a suggestion. The hose reel that you mounted on the fence post is carrying a lot of weight and will ultimately be difficult for that fence post to support, especially in windy situations. Place at least one brace on that fence post to help off set the weight of that hose reel.
How is it holding up? Would think the reel mount would go perpendicular to help support the weight of the hose and water but maybe that way helps support the jarring around of use better.
I have the Stainless steel quick connects from Obsessed Garage and so far they've been great. The Eley stuff is amazing! I forget how I heard about it last year, but super glad I got 2 reels. Their nozzles are amazing too! If I hadn't gotten the quick connects from obsessed garage, I'd try the Eley ones for sure.
How’s the flexzilla doing after a couple seasons? Did one on the open reel turn into a sticky mess? I love how easy to use that hose is in a wide range of temps but the rubber on all of mine breaks down in the sun after a while. Just wondering about your experience
Used to be that Craftsman made the best hose… black real rubber looked like it was made out of tires. Now I am looking for quick connections and hydraulic hose to use as a last forever garden hose
Flexzilla is not drinking water safe. They claim that it is, but it is not certified by the nsf. A lot of people have molding issues with them as well.

Best quick connects: Gardena Premium Metal. German company. Really high quality. I replaced all my cheap quick connects with Gardena a few years ago and they’re still perfect today.
Melnor quick connects have worked great for me for the last year and still going strong. They may start breaking down due to UV rays in a year, but they work so well, I’m ok with replacing them every other year if needed.
I mentioned Melnor disconnects, but you should check out their entire line of products. Their timers are great as well. You could get a 4 way timer and leave one open for manual watering, but my wife doesn’t like to fidget with the controls so I ran a 2-way splitter before the timer. I also recommend Melnor splitters because they have the larger knobs to open/close the valves.
The few products of there I’ve used were great. I’ve seen a 4 way Melnor splitter that looked nice. I was REALLY interested in there WiFi water timer but everyone is outta stock or it seems to be discontinued and I can only find there Bluetooth water timer.
Jordan - use the Eley quick-connects. I have an Eley hose reel, and also have a Hoselink retractable hose reel too, where I've replaced all the Hoselink quick-connects with Eley's (because they are so good). All brass, very robust; will last forever. Enjoy your reel! (My wife likes mine... and she likes the Eley reel too.)
the flexzilla hosereel didnt retract to well for me so I modified a giraffe hose reel to accept a zero-g 5/8 hose at 100 feet, i could have added the zero g to the flexzilla retractable reel, but again I hate its slow retract action, yours seems to be alot better in that respect
Yikes. I thought for sure the siding was going to come off when you took that pick to the old reel. That was hard to watch for me. I agree it’s better to spend a little extra for a great tool than to have to replace something every few years.

It may be advantageous to install underground pvc sprinkler piping to connect instead of those garden hoses. It's easy
