    Awesome video. I total feel this. I’ve been an RN BSN for 3.5 yrs and I’ve done medsurg and psych. Was a navy corpsman for 8yrs before that. Now I’m getting ready to do travel nursing. I’m 33. I don’t have job satisfaction and I’ve been contemplating Med school for quite some time now.

    Actually in my last semester of nursing school and my first choice was med school. However I felt like I looked at the time frame and felt like it was going to take too long. Now I'm regretting not going after my gut. To those reading this, make sure you go after what you feel. A quote that stuck with me is "I would rather reach for the stars and fail then to never have reached at all."

      @@user-lu6yg3vk9zAs a fellow provider, we are not being replaced by midlevels and especially machines, you dont know what you’re talking about. There’s a reason it takes 12-16 years to become a physician. Sure, scope creep from midlevels is a developing situation, but they are essential and a great part in giving proper care to patients. They have comprehensive knowledge of medicine and part of a good midlevel is knowing when to ask for a second opinion.

      I wanted a larger breath of training that comes with residency. I also wanted the opportunities that came with going to medical school (so far I have received several scholarships for travel to conferences, internships, and have been involved with advancing medicine in several research studies and case studies). The opportunities that medical school have introduced me to have been outstanding. It always felt uneasy to me to know that I could submit an application for an online NP school and start practically the following week. I honestly would have been happy to be a PA though it definitely wouldn't have given me all the opportunities that medical school has so far.

When I studied for the MCAT, I took 5 weeks off of work to study for it full time (I was transitioning to a new position so I just pushed back my start date on my new position). I will be honest, studying for the MCAT was one of the worse experiences ever haha I am a terrible standardized test taker so the MCAT was super challenging and stressful. I just made sure that I exercised every day and ate super brain food. Knowing that it was a step towards my dreams was helpful and having my supportive partner was helpful too. I know I want to do a post-bacc program, but im worried about my future schedule as a nurse. Do you have any advice on how to explore different job opportunities as a new grad?

    • @nursemdlily
      @nursemdlily  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most new-grad opportunities are going to be in-patient. I did a year and a half of floor nursing before I worked outpatient. Most places will want you to get a foundational year in a hospital first. You can always check community health centers for RN positions as well as surgery centers, Cath labs (for a holding area position), etc. I completed a 1 year nurse residency program - you may want to look into those, most are not 2 years long.

      It depends on what you want to do. Medical doctors make medical diagnosis and come up with treatment plans. Nurses can also do that as a nurse practitioner. Being a doctor opens other doors like becoming a surgeon, radiologist, pathologist - etc., that you can only do if you go to medical school. I wanted the door with more options! It's harder in terms of time commitment but neither route is the easy route to take.
