      Indeed it is. A fair few were pretty lame, but there were a lot of really great themes too. Such a shame that that variety is lost to us with new machines.

    I love all the art on the old machines, and this clean up really brought out how good this machine looks. I love old pinball machines, when I was little that's all there were, video games were a few years away. I had a friend who restored a few old machines, including a "strato flight" and a baseball , the kind with the bat and field. I just saw a restored one like it for sale for quite a lot. Nice work there and thanks for the videos!

    I noticed the o-ring posts on the play field are metal, not like the plastic ones used in more modern pinball machines. This and the state of the play-field imply to me that tables in the mid sixties had a better level of quality than those made in the seventies and eighties.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They had a different level of quality, definitely. It's not necessarily that everything was made worse as time went on, for instance the metal posts look great but the plastic ones can be colored and translucent so they glow when the lights shine through them, etc. So in some ways the metal ones are better in other ways the plastic ones are better.... The finish on the playfields does seem to be more resilient on the older ones but part of that is because the ball moved slower on the old ones, and some of it may be the composition of the paints, there may even be legal environmental regulations that took certain chemicals out of the paints, etc.

  • @tomc8273
    @tomc8273 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great Job, what a difference! I think I would have preferred to work on the wiring instead of stripping the field and do what you did. That blue almost looks purple.

    While I suspect the automotive people could recommend a way to strip the clear coat off without damaging the paint underneath, it's not worth the trouble.
    The artwork on the back glass and over the pop bumpers is darker than the play field anyway, so it could look weird.

    As i figured! When you talked about to clearcoat the playfield, (and as i understand) That is´nt the best way to do if you´re gonna store it in a not airconditioned environment. Is it better to NOT put clearcoat on when a recondition is done if you dont have the ability to store it that way? And what will happen to it without the clearcoat protection if it has been left there to long. Let´s say 15 years or so?

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can clear coat it just fine if you want but it’s a lot of work to do properly. I didn’t clear this one because you can protect it with wax and we hadn’t done any painting that needs protected...

    Ron you got any advice on repairing through-plated connectors? I'm working on a SegaCD from 93 and when replacing the caps a few of the connectors came out. It runs and drives but the CD drive doesn't read, I think the end of stroke switch logic ain't connecting.
    I heard you can make a bead on top and run a length of wire through to fill the hole, but wanted to ask for your opinion real quick, you've got way more experience with this type of stuff than I do.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The lucky thing you've got is that it's inside a case so no matter how ugly it looks all that matters is it works... Yeah I use little thin wire to run down through the hole, or sometimes you can use a capacitor leg. If it's the hole that a capacitor is actually in, you may have to 'high water' the cap, make it stick up off the board so you can solder the top of the board under the cap and run a trace to wherever you need to go....

    • @bkslsh
      @bkslsh 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LyonsArcade Haha I hear that. I'm not worried if it's frankensteined a little, nobody else is gonna see it but me :p
      Thanks for the pointers man. I'll give it a shot and keep my fingers crossed. I won't be beat by some fancy cd player from 93!
      Also, I appreciate all the great content. I've learned a lot from both channels, and being a former technician it's a hoot and a half to watch y'all wrenchin. With a little patience anything can be fixed

    I have been using the Amazon Prime app, and I ordered 2 radar detectors and a bunch of other stuff this month, but I don't think it gives you credit when you use the app.
    I just ordered Dreamstation air filters and I clicked your link then opened Firefox and ordered through the webpage.
    I think this is the only way you get credit
    If that is the case, let everyone know to not order through the app on the phone, to go to the website and order through that.

      @@LyonsArcade The app doesn't give you credit. You have to click the link then open Firefox and type in amazon.com and place the order that way, otherwise it does not work. It looks like it doesn't hold you link in memory, so you have to click the link every time before opening the webpage or it won't give you credit.
