I enjoyed GT final bout but felt the learning curve made the gameplay horrendous at first. For that generation though it was fun though obviously not as smooth as say Hyper Dimension.
I really do wish they would touch on original DB more. Yes, Vegeta is a great character and so is Piccolo who we don’t meet until the end of DB but it’s ridiculous how many fans know next to nothing about how it all started and would rather watch GT, Super or even Heroes just because they’re newer than a much better series that started it all. A major platform game that started at the beginning for the first time since the famicon days is sorely needed.

I would love to see a Xenoverse game that was much more open-world like Kakarot / Legacy of Goku 2. But I feel it really needs to expand beyond the main story of Goku. I don't just want to be re-living the same fights against Vegeta, Frieza, Cell, Buu, etc.
Allow us to join factions like the Galactic Patrol and Frieza Force, and have faction-specific quest-lines (think something like the factions in the Elder Scrolls games).
Maybe even race-specific quests. What if the opening chapter of the game depends on your race... so if Saiyan you start on planet Vegeta before it's blown up and you do a bunch of missions there. Or as a Namekian you start on Namek before the great disaster.... and your character gets pulled through time just as those disasterous events happen.
With time-travel an important aspect, we shouldn't have to go through the timeline linearly. Why not have the player character sent randomly through time to different locations - have us sent back to the time of Yamoshi, or during Buu's original attack on the planet of the Kais, or Yardrat where we have to defend against an invasion of Frieza soldiers and eventually fend off the Ginyu Force.
Just give us something other than having to play as Goku, or having to play as what amounts to being Goku's assistant. There is a vast universe to exlore - would be rude not to.

If they were going to make a more 'what-if' driven style of game, they could keep either the gameplay style of Xenoverse or Kakarot for the battle sections, but make the cinematics and story elements a 'choose your own adventure' style, i.e. a Telltale Games or Bioware game. Everybody wins!

Which games I want and why:
Budokai Tenkaichi 3 remastered. Hey, it's a classic and was really polished for the time. Updating the graphics and adding characters to the rooster would be amazing, both from DBSuper and characters not added from before. It could also be straight up Budokai Tenkaichi 4.
A new Supersonic Warriors. I know it's a gameboy/ds game, but it was a decent fighting game with cool "what-if" scenarios. I specially liked having to finish a stage in a certain way to unlock a what-if.
Top-down RPG. I KNOW it's stupid for Goku to be defeated by a SNAKE, but come on, Buu's Fury was a good game regardless.
Maybe a sidescroller like Advanced Adventure? Following someone else from the cast, obviously. This is at the bottom of my list, but AA was one of the first games I played on my gba emulator, so kinda nostalgia

For a while I've had an idea for a Diablo-style Dragonball game, in which up to four players play as Saiyans in the Cold/Frieza army. You go to different planets, wiping out the inhabitants and raising your standing within the army, eventually getting noticed by King Vegeta and eventually Frieza himself. Players could customize their Saiyan's appearance and acquire stronger armor and abilities (tank, glass cannon, support, medic???) over time. Every planet would have different races with different powers and technology (bugs, reptilians, magic users, cybernetic, etc.), and there would be cameos from well-known characters like Vegeta, Nappa, Bardock, etc. The game would end with players being summoned back to planet Vegeta, only to discover Frieza's betrayal and desperately fight their way through Frieza's minions before ultimately dying, OR escaping at the last moment and setting up a rebellion against Frieza.

    • @reidlindsey4838
      @reidlindsey4838 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

What xenoverse 2 should have been. They marketed the game as if you could make choices to change the story but it was nothing like that. On the 3 occasions you got a choice, the supreme Kai of time would just give you a nothing answer that didn’t impact anything later. The only thing of note is the ending where Trunks saves Gohan but that just feels like it was meant to happen and wasn’t because of the choices you made. The closest we got to what we wanted from xenoverse 2 was the Fu dlc where we could bring in different characters to help us and it would actually change the story. If we ever get a xenoverse 3, I hope they implement this idea into the story mode and really expand on it. I want to see how my choice of partner would affect later parts of the story. I don’t want to just see the immediate consequences of it. I want to see the repercussions of my choice. For example, I choose to make Goku my partner and this will give me a story mode similar to the original main timeline. This can be for people who want to know the real story of dragon ball. On a side note, you will get consequences for going with Goku. He will let his guard down and made some bad mistakes.
And of course, it would be cool to have to work with villains and possibly see how they rub off on our CAC, impacting our relationship with the time patrol. It would be crazy to see our CAC switch sides and work with Towa/Mira/Fu. Also, I’m still wondering if they will ever give us an option to start out as a demon working for Towa. I feel like this is the best we will get from Bandai in terms of variety for a possible Xenoverse 3. I would like to see the demon actually win if we choose to be one but they would probably just have him switch sides and work for the time patrol so they don’t have to deal with having another lobby for the demon character after the story mode(in which the time patrol city would most likely be destroyed).

For replayability, you could have it where you have to complete the original story once with your OC. And then as a New Game Plus provide alternate stories. Like the first one being "Raditz survives" and play a game where Raditz doesn't lie and actually leaves when he begs for his life, returning with Vegeta and Nappa possibly. Could be explained that your OC is in a time loop, punishment for creating an alternate timeline in the past. This could also help explain any new game + benefits.

When I made my original character, Nypo, who had mastered shape-changing the Nyoibo, it occurred to me that he would be impossible to make playable in a video game. You could pre-program a limited set of techniques, but he couldn't adapt it as situationally as my OC did in my fanfic. As a boss, everyone would hate him. It would take too long to break the Nyoibo compared to how quickly he can recover the pieces and shoot another darn Double Hydra. (After it goes outward and back inward around the opponent, the ends form the same shape again if the opponent dodges it the first time.) Then there's armor, sprinting off, leaving decoys in dust clouds, grabbing loose boulders and rolling them down slides or something... he'd be more fun to have as a boss than as a playable character with fewer moves.

  • @anthonymcgundam
    @anthonymcgundam 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

my favorite example for a game with established lore where you join with your OC, would be SAO: Fatal Bullet. we get to be our own character along side the original cast in an alternate universe lore setting. your OC has their own story and it gets intertwined with the OG story on occasion and with a twist, can change a later aspect of the OG timeline to the point, where our OC NEEDS to be in the OG timeline for certains aspects.
this is how i hoped xenoverse would go, but it is all the "proper" story and barely any choice fluff...
we need, for a really good game, an alternate reality type story (like your "what if"s), so the story can have a great level of freedom while still keeping aspects of the original lore. maybe have it so we are like a future trunks type character who joins the original timeline here and there for the big bads and vice versa, recruiting OG timeline characters to help out if we cant beat our big bads... maybe with stuff like "I'm overleveled and could curbstomp -insert villain here- and train Goku and friends in the room of spirit of time, ... maybe change the room of spirit of time aspect to be connected to our alternate reality aswell so we could occasionally meet random dragon team members and spar and train them up (example: looking at krillins unused new form... make that have him REALLY stand out by training him up) avoiding the "time ring" wrinkle
maybe have it senzus dont exist in our alternate time and we need to trade stuff for them, having exploration quests that potentially increase the haul of senzus for each trade and stuff like that.
(oh, and give our OC Zeno immunity as the ONLY plotarmor)
also to change up the gameplay, one could make that the OC reality has no weapon restrictions adding the martial arts ontop of our weapon of choice and the OG reality only having us use martial arts (think how future trunks fights with a sword and is good at matrial arts)
for combat i would say a combination of the OG Gundam breaker trilogy combat (larger open combat areas and multiple enemies, but not on the scale of dynasty warriors, enemies that DO pose a threat if they gang up on you) and Xenoverse in the OC world and a FighterZ and Xenoverse hybrid for the OG world.
i could go on for hours, but this is a condensed and semi coherant base for the RPG side of the things.

    My perfect dragon ball game:
    1. Action-RPG spin-off
    2. In-depth character creation(with game exclusive races added)
    3. Power levels and stats. Yes, Power Levels do matter. I think it's a HUGE part of the Dragon Ball power fantasy shtick, and I would love to see a character's progress reflected in that somewhat arbitrary number.
    4. This one is probably the most important to me personally: Start as a nobody, a weakling who isn't a master martial artist(With race power levels being marginally different, not substantial). Definitely don't start with ki-controlled blasts and flight abilities. Let us feel the satisfaction of TRAINING. Make TRAINING and GETTING STRONGER a FUN GAME MECHANIC. Let us really live that Power fantasy. Let the players choose how much time they want to put into training. Let us feel the excitement of learning how to use ki for the first time, how to fly for the first time. Let us feel the difference between getting into a fight/battle as an ordinary fighter and getting into it as an overpowered beast. I want to see the enemies cackling and patronizing when we're weaker, see them stern and serious when we're close in power to them, and see the terror in their eyes and the panic in their fighting when we're way more powerful than them. Let the players FEEL and ENGAGE with their character's growth as a martial artist through game mechanics.
    5. Customizable martial arts schools and styles. I think Absolver did a good job with a similar idea, and I would love to see it implemented in a DB game. Let the players make a truly unique fighter.
    6. A custom ki-attack creation system, including signature animations to choose from and combine when using them.
    7. Open world. I would love it to be really big so that we have a sense of how much stronger we got by flying or running through the open world.
    8. Non-linear storytelling. Let the players explore the world and the narrative at their own pace. I really like the way it was done in Skyrim and Breath of the Wild.
Surely there are many more aspects of the 'perfect dragon ball game' I could go into, but these are the core things I personally would want.
Do I really think it will ever be made? NOPE. Not even as a fan game. But it sure is fun to fantasize.

Tien would want to try this because he would want to help out after being absent during the TOP arc and Yamcha, well he would like to live longer. So could we see Tiencha vs Henchmen of Moro?

in the old days, there was a series of NES dragonball z games (and mainly the SNES Remaster Legend of the Super Saiyan) that utilized cards for their gameplay, allowed free roaming and had all other RPG elements such as leveling up through random encounters and improving stats like your maximum ki capacity by doing training. on top of that, these games also utilized a unique Power Level mechanic where your PL played a role in how effectively you can fight a stronger opponent. most importantly though was the way the story progressed; disregarding the silly filler sidequests, you could alter the course of the story in many ways: the effectiveness of Goku's training on king kai's planet determined how early he arrived to help the rest against Vegeta and Nappa. the effectiveness of gohan's training with piccolo also allowed for more of the humans to survive (if your training wasn't effective you wouldn't be able to pick up the human fighters on the map before facing vegeta and nappa). in addition, if you managed to keep Chaotzu, Tien and Yamcha alive, you could take them on the trip to namek. finally, the most notable story moment was that if you allowed vegeta to survive during the fight with freeza and unlocked super saiyan for goku, he would appear right after as a hidden final boss, having unlocked super saiyan as well.
unfortunately the game's story only reached that far and a sequel never came about... however that game remains the most downloaded SNES rom since the dawn of the internet.
I grew up playing that game and always wished that a sequel would be made in the same vein... there's so much that could be done with the story in that regard... what if scenarios and choices throughout the cell saga alone are enough to satisfy the imagination, that of course not mentioning what modern video game technology could do when it comes to game mechanics. Attack of the Saiyans on the DS was a great game as well, did a lot of things better than LotSS (team attacks, hidden fights/scenarios, much better item system...etc.) but again, was constrained by an even more limited story scope. and likewise it sadly never received the sequel it deserved despite freeza being teased at the end of the game.
i genuinely wish we'd get a proper classic-style RPG game that borrows elements from both of these games... i personally never liked Kakarot and don't think it does half as good as an RPG game as those two did in the past.

The idea of a game around being a Galactic Patrol member watching over Earth and possibly influencing major character events (like the saving Nappa or ending Frieza example) really got me thinking of the potential of a Xenoverse esque game focused on the job of the angels and Supreme Kais rather than the Time Patrol. Imagine literally playing as a character like Merus in the Moro arc, and extended way before the Moro arc. Could even have a climactic ass ending of our character stepping in to change one huge huge event and getting erased as per angel rule of taking sides. It would need a lot of polishing, but I think the concept is there.

FighterZ style team mechanics (3 man teams with assists), Beat 'em Up gameplay, RPG elements, Story from Raditz all the way to Buu. Options to spare certain characters (and unlock them for the run) at the cost of XP from fighting and beating them which also opens some small changes to the plot.

I really wish that instead of shoving the “Z” storyline into our throats every now and again. I wouldn’t mind it if they branched off like either make a game where it all began where Goku was a kid and it goes all the way till the start of Dragonball Z. Or go with GT change the story up a little and it ends with the Shadow Dragon Saga. I wouldn’t mind playing those game on the PS4/PS5 with the Dragonball Kakarot graphics. RPG style.

Looking back on the amount of Dragon Ball z games,my perfect game would probably never exist, but it would be a massive Toy Box Game for Dragon ball z fans essentially .
    Combining alot of simple ideas.
1.Take a somewhat more less complex fighting system similar to the Tenkaichi series, alongside the vast amount of characters and levels and modes of tenkaichi 3,and the massive story mode of Tenkaichi 2
    2. Combine that with beautiful graphics of the Arc System of Dragon ball z Kakarot ps4.
    3. Give us a campaign that ISNT JUST the RADITZ to BUU sagas.
Give us a thorough campaign of the original Dragon Ball for newcomers, and the continuation of the new events of Dragon ball Super.
The campaign would be massively long, but it also would have the great slice of life moments we love.
    4. Have what if storylines and alternate timeline events like Bardock vs Frieza, Majin Vegeta destroying Buu, Piccolo vs Shin in the World Tournament, and Gohan and Trunks in the future vs the Androids and much more.
    5. Have the Japanese and American dub, alongside multiple music options ranging from Kikuchi,Yamamoto, and Faulconer productions,to the new music of Dragon ball Super.
    6. Once we beat the game,we unlock a create a character mode where we can make our own character clothes and moveset with combinations of whatever in Dragon Ball history.
7.Transformations can be done in fight, you can start out in a transformation,or detransform.
    8. Every character should have multiple alternate costumes to play/fight in that should be from their DBZ LORE. ranging from Trunks's sword and Capsule Corp Jacket,to the Iconic Energy Scouter,to Piccolo's PostBoy outfit/hat or Vegetas BADMAN shirt.

Whenever a time travel plot is to maintain the status quo of original events I know it's going to be a boring affair. Because instead of having good and interesting stories being told we have the same ones told to us over and over again, and not only that, we have to purposely remove those stories to put the old ones in place.

What if events in Universe 6 could affect events in Universe 7? That would give the theoretical game a way to introduce indirect changes and explore both Universes. Since it appears angels aren't allowed to interact directly, they would have to bring in someone who could - the player's character - and thus start the process of moving back and forth between Universes, while reporting to Whis, Vados, or even the Grand Priest. This would give us insight into at least Universe 6 (and its marketable characters), while allowing for crossing paths with Universe 7 events and characters. Late-game events could include the gathering of the Super Dragon Balls.

What I would like to see is, in a sense, a return to more of an MMO or adventure rpg with a story/character structure similar to SWTOR:
We don’t play as any canon character. We make our own. each playable race and subclass has their own unique storyline that you can play through. Maybe they intertwine. Maybe they don’t. Maybe they’re all taking place on the side of the main timeline and you get to see/hear flashes of it. Or maybe it takes place in universe 6, a world who’s lore we only have a handful of episodes of source material to draw from. And the rest is free to what if up!
Or hell just thought of this: mix Kakarot and the upcoming “Black Myth: Wukong” (for the unaware, it definitely has a dark souls/sekiro looking vibe) and use THAT game to FINALLY give us the origin story of Yamoshi in full!!!

In a totally different kind of game, I could imagine a multiplayer team based game that involves a zone/control point type mode, where each zone that you have to capture and control is one of the 7 dragon balls. The gameplay could either be done xenoverse style or in a more MOBA/action-RPG (although then you probably lose the flying aspect of movement) style where each player has to pick a "hero" type character that is one of the characters we all love.
Or heck, you could go really out there with an RTS style game where the different factions are different universes, and the major characters are hero type units that you can only produce one of each of. It would let you add lore for the other universes.

Make it 100, 200, even 300 years down the line with new cast, new threats, and we could totally look at the world of Dragon Ball Online as a base. The Red Pants Army is a good starting point. I admit, they could take a page from Ultimate Tenkaichi, don't have one but TWO Story Modes. Main "Story Mode" and then more free "OC Story" with Customization Options, own hubs, etc.
Could even do in XV2 format, it seems to work well?
Further Customization ideas would be also quite interesting. Ki Color Change from Ultimate Tenkaichi for one, maybe give Earthlings option for "Kai" style ears or make "Offworlder" playable race there; that alone would unlock much more customization options for the game.
Heck, if they feel brave, they could even add "Evil OC Story" option, where you help Time Breakers instead.
And story? I think Dragon Ball Heroes has more than enough for us to work with.

My favorite game was Legendary Super Warriors for the Gameboy Color. It was a card game that went through the main story and doing certain actions could let you unlock different characters or the secret Trunks Future chapters where Trunks saves his future. It even had an RPG mechanic where you could level up your characters up to 5 times and customize where you put their stats: HP, Atk, Ki, or Spd. A unique way of experiencing the original story. Plus, the music was great. Personally, I'd just like another Tenchaichi, Budokai, or Legacy of Goku (2) styled game. I don't need to change the history, I'd just like some different way of interacting with the characters. Oh, supersonic Warriors too, I had fun with that playstyle, though I'm not sure how well it really holds up

A fusion of Super Dragon Ball Z, the Legacy of Goku games, and dynasty style games sound is what I would like. I think if given the chance the devs of storm or the clash of ninja series could do good with something like that. Personally, I always wanted them to split the DBZ story into a trilogy so that they can really fill up each saga they focus on with the most content, story and character interactions possible. Too much happens the DBZ story as a whole to make a game these days that lives up to both fan and critic expectations. Imagine a cinematic experience that starts with the destruction of planet vegeta then for that first game you playthrough the saiyan and Frieza saga. There is so many character interactions, development, and moments you can focus on that other media weren't able to do in the past thanks to the creators now having hindsight and not having to worry about telling the story for like 3 extra sagas and just focus one telling one complete narrative that captures the essence of classic DBZ. It would also help the game feel more consistent in it's tone and cast which would help the player be more invested in characters that usually get forgotten or memed to death(like Tien & Yamcha). Thats just my idea though, great Vid as always.

We could even have a game just set on Dragon Ball Earth focused on the one aspect that still has no explanation or exploration yet is just as fundamental as ki, magic, technology, and other realms. Z dropped a lot of aspects and lore just waiting to be used. We don't need to go to space, the future, or other dimensions. We got the countless realms of universe 7, the intricacies of Dragon Ball Earth and all of its inhabitants, (dinosaurs, beast people, Giran, mermaids, and fairies included) and the ever reaching expanse and infinite folds of otherworld.

I feel like, as done as the XV story method is, they can still use it if they go crazier. If the point, for the most part is that the fights end the correct way, then they can just have things happen during those fights. Like one instance is Vegito can actually get absorbed by Buu and we need to fight/survive him for a period of time before getting Vegito out to get things back to normal.

As awesome as it would be to have branching what if storylines, that would be quite a storytelling and just programming nightmare. The devs would have to basically make half a dozen new stories to deal with the fact that something major changed. The worst thing would be to do what telltales usually do and give us that illusion of choice. Where it feels like the story branched off very significantly only for it to not matter at the end. If they do go for a what if centric story, they then have to go all the way to the end. They could do it but it would require quite a large team to pull it off.

With each of these, there were unique stories that the main character went through, directly effecting the events. Even if the story was completely scripted so there was only one outcome, it felt like the player was creating the outcomes. This is the main issue with xenoverse and Kakarot

Main crux of this, I would love a ToP battle royal game. Heck, they could had the U6 Tournament and Zeno Expo as smaller tournament modes and diversify what you could do, and get away with just using ToP characters.
Realistically, Kakarot style games but for the og, GT, and Super would be great. Though I'd still want it to be ambitious and really add all 80 ToP fighters, have giant boss battles with Magetta or Piccolo Jr., have a full ground combat system of Kid Goku, and so on.
But okay, let's talk crazy. It might be too ambitious or impossible to recognize, but I want a Dragonball "Tournaments" game. With all the game modes being based off of each major tournament with an arena-style combat system focused on ground combat. You'd have the basic bracket World tournament with otherworld map too. Then U6 continuous fighter matches (Fortuneteller Baba alternate), A Cell Games no holds barred style (one super power vs. everyone else), Zeno Expo where the team with the most wins...wins, and finally the ToP battle royal (Bojack Unbound preliminaries for a different map) which could be a mode for the Fortnite, apex legends, etc. fans. The roster is tricky. The simplest answer is "everyone who has been in a tournament", and while that'd be cool, it's omitting characters like Goku Black or Captain Ginyu. And no doubt characters like Ranfan or...Murisam, wouldn't have much of a move set. And already asking for the ToP is asking for literally 80 characters at the least, plus balancing would be a mess because either Jiren or Goku is OP characters everyone wants to play or Bacterian is oddly made tough enough to fight Hit.
