I'm laughing ruefully that you now find yourself on the improvement treadmill. "Floor looks great! Wait, the walls look bad now. Okay, upgrade the walls! Huh, did the ceiling always look as horrible or am I just noticing it now? Okay, ceiling next. Wait, now the driveway looks kinda run-down..." (Also, my day job is in a field adjacent to Environmental Health & Safety and at about 6:30 I found myself thinking "respirators! where are your respirators while you're grinding all that off the floor? please don't cause yourself some kind of horrible long-term illness!")
I was thinking that too, we take that stuff super seriously in Australia as we have had tonnes of tradies get respiratory illnesses from grinding down materials
I noticed the same. I know it was eleventy hundred degrees out there, but most of us only get one set if lungs. Lifetime risk is short for you as an observer, but I worry about the guys working every day on it. They do beautiful work. I would hate to see them taken out prematurely by the lung injuries this kind of exposure causes. OSHA currently fails to regulate exposure, but I think CA might be considering it at a state level. I follow east coast news more closely, and silicate dust protection is all at "employer discretion" here.
When my parents bought their house back in the mid 1950s, it did not come with a garage. But, they, along with a couple of friends built one. It was about a car and a half wide; so, bigger than a one car garage; but, not as big as a two car garage. My dad built a work table and cabinets. The table was hinged to the one of the cross beams along the wall. It could fold up out of the way and was easy enough to fold down when he wanted to work. Because it was a wide as it was my dad was able to work in the garage even when the car was parked inside. The oil on the floor of your garage definitely needed attention; but, you garage looks more like a rec room than a garage with that shiny new floor. Some people consider building projects a form of recreation.
Saw someone mention pegboard. great idea. you may also lok into the idea of french cleats, which would provide sturdy places to hang shelves or even collapseable workspaces. That sort of modularity is crucial in a smaller space such as this. Love the videos!
Yay you went with my recommendation! My stepdad will love this, he has the same floor and pattern, which is where I suggested it from. Having seen real pro concreters working, I agree with you that the quality of the job is all in the prep. I think you found good professionals which is great. It's so hard to find good tradespeople, it's the worst part of owning a house. Great video!

Looks great! I'll tell you one thing. Once you do this type of flooring on your garage, it's a must have down the road if you want to move to another house..lol. I got spoiled having this type of garage flooring. It just makes the garage beautiful, more useful and clean up on the floor is eeeeaaassy. BTW, now you'll have to get a magnet sweeper when you start working on things with this type flooring. Finding screws, bolts, nuts, etc....can be a pain at times.
I am in Australia and have this in my garage and 10 years later it looks as good as the day applied. In fact during a Reno we tried to remove the coating from a adjacent storeroom and couldn’t budge it. So sturdy.

They did a nice job with the exception of protecting themselves from the dust at times....Your floor exterior from the garage is actually what I was wondering how to tackle...I'm sure they put a top coat after the 2 coats of epoxy they did
Hi Kevin, The floor looks real nice. You might want to paint the walls & ceiling, to make it lighter and easier to see when working on projects. Consider hanging peg board (and attaching them to the studs) with some S hooks, to hang your tools on. Have a blessed day! 🌸
@@epichomesteading You're welcome! You could also run a 2x4 the length of your work bench (at the top of the peg board). Then get some jars with lids, attach the lids to the under side of the 2x4 (using a screw etc.) . Then place small items in jars, like nails, bolts, screws and drill bits. Simply twist the jar into the lid. If you want to be even more tidy.....you can lightly paint the peg board before attaching it to the studs. After hanging your tools you can outline the tools, so say you have different size hammers, the outline will give you a visual.....easier put away! 🌸

Wow that’s some process for a workroom floor! In Florida they do this top coat for actual in home flooring ...pretty amazing technique.... put up pegboard on the walls instead of dry wall...most likely you’ll want to be hanging things down the road...it looks great btw
NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Don't drywall the garage. Just paint it. The studs are exposed. Future you will thank you for not covering those up when you want to hang things in the future. My first house had an unfinished garage and I loved being able to secure hooks and stuff to structure and know it was hanging from structure as opposed to my new house where the garage is drywalled. My car got an accidental paint job when my wife put paint on the garage shelving and the shelf collapsed because the previous owner didn't mount the shelf into the studs. He just used drywall anchors. The self gave way and my car was spattered with the leftover paint in shades of blue, tan, yellow, and white. Anyway, I'd just give the garage a coat of paint and call it good.
Such a good point! My parents bought a house recently and the garage is drywalled or something. Wish it weren’t! The crawl space is not finished though and I can see up there, so I’ll check if we can see the studs. It’s a 100 year old house and the garage may be that old too!
That floor is looking great, really lifts the look of the garage, as you said now there's only the ...rest of it... that you'd have to fix lol. Loving the chipped paint, reminds me of the flooring we had in science classes as they were super resistant against anything being dropped.

In 1965 or so - I was a little girl - my mother, all on her own, did a similar project to her kitchen floor! The chips were much bigger, but multi-colored like yours. She knew Dad didn't do that kind of stuff well so she did it herself. Whoever moved in there when we left probably cussed her big time! Your garage floor looks fantastic though!

A few questions as its been a while now since installation. 1) Do you also need to add sand or paint chips to the Polyaspartic also as i heard it is even more slippery than Epoxy? 2) How has the floor held up so far, any issues or points you'd like to add? 3) did they give you a choice of going with sand instead of paint chips if you wanted one solid color? 4) Finally, I was wondering if there was ever discussion of just going with a straight Polyaspartic instead of mixing Epoxy and Aspartic? Looks great, for the walls have you considered a French cleat system? They’re pretty sturdy and give you a ton of options and ability to rearrange things in the future. Great video and I love both this channel and epic gardening, both my go-to sources for gardening and good vibes 🌱😁🤙🏾

My uncle used it on his farm market floor and it's held up about 6 yrs. It still has its shine. Amazing product.

I think you should sheet the garage walls with plywood. This makes shelves or hooks easier to install and takes more weigh
