Do you know much about Minsk? I didn't think so. In this video we'll explore modern Minsk Belarus. Clean, comfortable and friendly city! Must-watch! #Minsk #Belarus
I have lived in Moscow, Vladivostok, Kiev, Odessa, Almaty, Poltava, Vinnytsia and Dniper....I never visited Belarus until last year. I was absolutely impressed with Minsk and I fell in love with the city and the people. Now i'm looking for another reason to go back to Belarus. for me it was one of the best Russian speaking cities I have ever been in. I LOVE MINSK!! And,..as difficult as it is to believe, Minsk has the best, most beautiful girls in all of the slavic world.
I visited Minsk with a buddy for 3 weeks a couple of years ago. It was my first time out of the United States. It was amazing! The culture is awesome and most of the young Belarusians are learning English so they liked to practice with native English speakers. The city is EXTREMELY clean and the public transportation is fantastic. Best of all for tourist is how unbelievably cheap everything is (except for electronics and imported stuff).

I visited Minsk last December. Everything this video asserts is true, with these qualifiers. English is rare except in establishments that cater to westerners, so be prepared. The people are very reserved - not unfriendly, but even so, you may feel yourself being studied a bit when they realize you are a westerner. They are not used to tourists. Also, do not expect western style service in retail stores. Again, the staff is not rude, but they are not going to trip over themselves to offer their assistance. This may be a holdover from Soviet times. On that note, the city has a definite Soviet feel to it. This can be an attraction in itself, if you want to get a feel for what Soviet life was like. I've been to Moscow but Minsk felt more Soviet. As for the absence of western franchises and chain stores, that is a huge plus. One of the joys of travelling to a foreign country is escaping that sh*t. Finally, the drive or cab ride to Nesvizh and Mir "castles" is definitely worth it. Oh yes... the women are gorgeous (not so much the men. Sorry ladies). A final word of advise: do not ever make light of the Nazis or Second World War in Belarus. Between 25% and 30% of the country's people were killed during the German occupation, and almost all of their villages, towns and cities were completely destroyed.

This city practically came into being after 1945, it is easier to build in the open field than to interfere in the urban substance. In addition, everything is state-based, so one decision, you live here, tomorrow, if need to, they will transfer you to another apartment block. Do you know what life is like in such a home? Walls 10 cm thick, and dozens of neighbors from various social classes.
@@fromgy7450 No its not state based.People own the flats they live in,you can sell them and do whatever you want. No one decides were do you live. 97% of apartment blocks are relativelty modern(built at least in 1970s) the walls are not 10 cm thick. City wasnt built after the war,it was just extensivly rebuilt due to damage from WW2.In fact the city was founded in 1067 and was a capital of a principality until 1326,when it entered the Great Duchy of Lithuania. After that it was a major economic center up until the 1940s when it was nearly destroyed by ww2.It was also name the capital of BPR(Belasrusian Peoples Republic) in 1918

Hello! The city of Minsk is not a popular tourist destination. But the city is worth visiting for sure. Its clean, safe and the people are nice and friendly. Did I mention beautiful girls?:) Let me know what you think in the comments!
With regard to wages, you also have to keep in mind that the the purchasing power parity adjustment is about 30% for Belarus, meaning that the exchange rate conversion still leaves a price differential of 30 percent vis a vis the price of goods in the US. So an average monthly wage of $450 is more like $1500 in the US, or close to $18K per year. Which is not bad considering universal healthcare and high public subsidies for things like public transportation. Not a place to be a millionaire, but where you can live comfortably. Which explains how it is among the top 10 countries for equitable income distribution. Just some food for thought.
My current favorite European city ♥♥ I have traveled there several times and even by cold winter it's still a pleasure! Great to see such videos like yours giving info about this city, usually media's videos about Minsk or Belarus are 100% political and have negative bias as they depict Minsk as a dark industrial sad rainy cold city. Your video is (much) closer to reality I've encountered than the MSM videos about Minsk/Belarus. I visited Minsk in Oct 17, May 18, Sep 18 and shortly Jan 19 this month before going by train to another city (Hrodna/Grodno).
I have visited Minsk and Belarus at September 2018 and I am impressed with the city cites, the beautiful Mir castle, welcoming people and definatly excellent local cuisine! I will definatly return to Belarus as I have so much more to see. Really recomend to anyone who wants to experience the Soviet architecture with western comfort.
I'm from Minsk myself. I love my country and my city very much. I am very sorry for people who judge the country by the presence of IKEA and Starbucks!
Wow. Minsk is such a beautiful city. Not many people across the world know or discuss about it . Amazingly clean , less populated city. Would like to visit once. Thanks for the video.
Beautifully photographed. OUTSTANDING quality video. I enjoyed watching it. You covered some very interesting areas. I will share this video with my family, relatives that live in Russia, Norway and in America and my dear friends in California. Wished my dad was still alive to see Minks, the place where he was born before WWII. Both my father and mother families are from Belarus.
Oh Minsk is so beautiful and really clean , how I wish I could visit it too ! But since I don’t have the capacity to do it , I like to thank you Mr Cool Vision for sharing this with us .
I visited Minsk in 1997 and it was clean and safe back then, if a little spartan and run down. I couldn't tell one shop from another until I walked in through the revolving doors all shops seemed to have back then as there were no posters or window displays, just a sign on the wall in Russian. How they have smartened up the walkways along the river and the roads which all were full of potholes and roadworks back in 1997. The Opera was US$2 back then and was a brilliant performance. The Metro was flat rate any station of 2000 Belorussian Rubles or 11 cents New Zealand (where I am from) currency. I have wanted to revisit Belarus for quite a while now and my next trip to Europe will include Belarus. Thanks for the great video and commentary!
Great video. We, Belarusians, also with all our hearts love our Homeland, our Minsk. It is really very clean and very safe here, according to these parameters Minsk is included in the world tops. However, the sad fact is that 80% of the population is living for 300-500 dollars a month (at prices comparable to those in Moscow (Russia) or Poland, Lithuania, Bulgaria...) I have my own business and everything is fine, but we must understand that the majority of the population lives hard. Belarusians are not a stupid nation, we still have a good education system, people are hardworking and we are all true Europeans, we share the values of Europeans. I say this for general understanding. Tourism should not be confused with immigration...Unfortunately, a certain number of people are leaving (Russia, Poland, Lithuania)...
@@rlaaudtjq The truth is that some people do not need much for happiness. But it is also true that the economic situation is only sluggishly worsening from year to year. Can you imagine what it is like to live for 300-400 dollars in a country where the price level is not very high, but the same food or household appliances are often more expensive than in Poland or Lithuania, and people go to these countries "for purchases"... Unfortunately, some of our citizens, even 27 years after the collapse of the USSR, did not adapt to capitalism, expecting regular handouts from the state. These people cannot plan their future or run a small business. Salaries in the public sector are the lowest in the country, namely, state-owned enterprises, we have more than 50% of the economy... I repeat once again - I'm fine. But I feel sorry for the majority of our citizens: (
@@F93xo Yes, the absolute majority of the population perceives it as an insult. One "but" is much worse when a Russian-speaking person, a native speaker (Russians, Kazakhs, etc.) calls us that way. And from people from Central Europe, for example, or the United States, this sounds without any particular problems. And we understand that in some countries the name of our country does not sound like Belarus at all. Example - Germany: Weißrussland.
@@anatolfrombelarus7940 Anyway, I can't believe the median monthly income is U$300-U$400 for the people who live in this beautiful country looking so richer than even the west european countries.
I`ve lived here in Minsk for over three years, and I really like it. I find the people to be friendly, helpful and they generally live and let live. It`s pretty safe and there is enough to do, especially if you want to see gorgeous, green countryside. Trains and buses throughout the country are inexpensive, and the food has brought me some extra kilos. No reason to leave anytime soon. I`m from southern California, originally. What do I miss? Mexican and Chinese restaurants and groceries. Oh, one more thing: to your question as to why people come to Minsk as tourists. Many, in fact most, tourists are Russians seeking a cheap, safe and beautiful alternative to the Crimean Peninsula and Ukraine as a destination. SInce they feel unwelcome there, and nobody bothers them here, they come and enjoy the casinos (illegal in Russia), shopping and restaurants, but mostly the sheer openness of the wide boulevards with buildings set back away from the streets, wide sidewalks and trees. The net effect is that sounds don`t vibrate in the streets and sunlight or daylight brighten the city more. Entrepreneurs open new, unique shops and bars and it feels interesting.
I will go to Belarus this 2019. My e-mail adress is qpcientifica@hotmail.com. I'd like to find a wife there and to rent for a month period a small and cheap room. Can you guide on this goal, please? I'm from Mexico City. Thank you.
Wow, I'm really suprised. I've lived in Minsk since my birth, but before watching this video, I couldn't explain why tourists come here. Compared to Paris, Barcelona and others European cities, I tought the capital of Belarus is very boring. Thanks for video! That's heart-warmig
I knew a bit about Minsk though but your video gave me a pretty much clear view. I had a chance to live in Moscow in the end of 90s. There I heard a lot about Minsk. I had two friends from Minsk in my class in my university. They were the best amazing friends I ever met until today. Still searching for them. Thanks a lot.

I personally have no problem with the government putting restriction on issuing work permit to foreigners. Always learn to cater for your citizens, give them job first before others.
I lived in Minsk for a month in 2003. This video evokes fond memories of the city: clean streets, wide streets, lot of greenery and a lot of fun I had there....
Please, come to visit Minsk and Breast , Grodno, Mir too. We proud living here and we want to see more tourists in Belarus to share our friendly soul with them!
Sorry guys, your service is below the worst. There is an only place you can have a coffee or breakfast at 8 or 9 am, and it's McDonald's. All of the city bars and restaurants wake up by noon only. You want to see more tourists? You need to make their stay worry free.

What do I think about Minsk - this is still my first love, even after having moved to New York 26 years ago, this city has a soul, thank you for your video!
I love living here. Been here over 4 years now, and I`m glad I came here. It is quiet, calm, safe and extraordinarily clean and green. You don`t realize it has an authoritarian government generally, unless you try to protest without a permit. I`ve never felt worried about it. People are generally friendly and nobody looks at me twice unless I am in a regional city, where I stick out as an unusual visiting foreigner. The food is really good, and there is a growing number of restaurants featuring Asian foods, fast food, fine dining, and fast casual, with several US-based chains. The weather is not at all extreme, and this year`s winter is particularly mild. For the average worker, life is challenging from payday to payday, especially for retirees. I`ve used both private and public health care, and found both good. No plans to move soon. BTW, I`m a US ex-pat.
Great video, what a lovely country this looks so clean not over populated and no migrants workers. Looks a well disciplined country. Well done Belarus keep it like this.

@@jiffyyoyo6253 When people from different cultural backgrounds and sides of the world collide, this happens. We have a mono-ethnic population in Belarus, and even non-Belarusians (80% of the population) are still Slavs (10% of Russians, 4% of Poles, etc.)
I’m from Minsk and it is really a beautiful city, and the library it most beautiful for me. And in my opinion the most beautiful girls are in Belarus because we do not have many obese people. Another thing is we speak English, with most students being able to hold a conversation by grade 8. I live in America now, but it is still more beautiful there.
While the library looks beautiful it is a reminder of political oppression and waste of money. I just started my 1st year in college in Minsk when it was about its completion 14 years ago. Students were forced to go there and help remove trash and carry some construction material for at least a day. A lot of people had library construction donation deducted from their salaries and teachers were convincing students in schools and colleges to donate for that library. The whole country invested money in that library against their will. The money for that useless building could've been invested in renovation of existing libraries in Minsk. So fuck that library!
My friend recently visited Lithuania, Russia and Belarus. And Belarus was highlight of that trip according to him. It was so clean, Minsk is beautiful and people were the friendliest there. So Belarus is definitely on my list to visit.

Thanks for sharing, is a beautiful city!
Love Minsk!!! everything was brilliant...
That's a very reflected, insightful video, way above the usual traveller's video stuff. I really appreciate the quality.

However, the sad fact is that 80% of the population is living for 300-500 dollars a month (at prices comparable to those in Moscow (Russia) or Poland, Lithuania, Bulgaria...)
I have my own business and everything is fine, but we must understand that the majority of the population lives hard.
Belarusians are not a stupid nation, we still have a good education system, people are hardworking and we are all true Europeans, we share the values of Europeans.
I say this for general understanding. Tourism should not be confused with immigration...Unfortunately, a certain number of people are leaving (Russia, Poland, Lithuania)...
but it just look like an affluent city and people in Minsk seem to be happy.
But I feel sorry for the majority of our citizens: (
Is it really offensive to call it White Russia or Belarussia?
This is awesome video! I didn’t have clue Minsk is that beautiful.
I AGREE WITH YOU!

Хорошая работа! Красота! Спасибо!
You're an American immigrant.
@zolotovasoulmate7807Bad starting point. You should definitely learn Russian at least to live in Minsk and with time also Belarusian.
