Maybe you can help me. I have a 1961 AY160 Seeburg. After it sits a week or more when first turned on by switch in the back and I select a record the carriage will just sit there and not move. After I leave it sit for 20 minutes or so and again select a record the carriage will select the original record or the one I just selected to get it moving pick up record and play. I noticed I can speed up the wait time by moving the free play switch at the left front inside where the records are 6 or more times. The carriage will move to select a record right away. I have been living with this for some time now. Another problem has cropped up lately. The "S" key will not stay down while I select the number key. If I hold the "S" key down with right hand and select number key with left the "S" record will be selected. Any help will be appreciated.😀
Hey I need help... I have the exact jukebox that was rigged into free play mode before I bought it. Latch solenoid is always engaged... any idea where I should look???
I would look at the coin and credit units to see if/how they have been rewired (They are on the right side of the mechanism for the SE100). Normally for free play you would use a push button/switch to close one of the trigger contacts on the coin unit but it should only be a momentary thing. Then have the momentary switch on the back of the cabinet where no one can see it which then allows you to still use coins. Does the jukebox operate as normal otherwise when a selection is made?
Hi i have a sb100 record starts to play then rejected question is the reed switch normally open or normally closed as i have disconnected it and disabled the switch at the back of the j/b. Any new ideas would be helpfull.
Check the safety plunger on the back of the mechanism for starters, make sure it moves freely and not sticking otherwise the mech will spit the record back out(thinks it is warped record). I assume you are talking about the reed switch to trigger the ejection of a record, it is supposed to stay open then close when the magnet on the stylus passes over it when it gets to the end of a record. Hope this helps!
@@TheCrazzyToobinator I checked the safety plunger and it is moving freely as it should. i removed the reed switch and the machine will select start to play and reject within seconds.
Thanks for video. Is there a way to test these solenoids outside of the circuit. I have a credit unit solenoid but it is not hooked up to Jukebox. I have a transformer that outputs 26 volts AC .... looking for instructions on how to test the solenoids to make sure they work. Appreciate any help.
You can disconnect them the use a multimeter to measure the DC resistance, if bad they will read open circuit. Otherwise you can use 24VDC to operate them.
Not familiar with that model but probably has adjustments similar to later models, sounds like you may have more than one issue as well. Assuming you do not have warped records, record wobble can be the record clamp not lining up or the arm not pushing the record far enough (both have adjustments). Not seating tightly could be a weak arm spring or another adjustment issue. If you are going to tackle this I recommend that you try to hunt down a manual for your model online because usually there is a trouble shooting guide in them for these sorts of issues and explain steps how to correct them(they can be model specific too).
Hi, I wonder if you would be kind enough to give me a steer ... My SE100 has been working just fine until today. I pressed a selection and it did everything correct until it tried to load the record. For some reason it only pushed the record about a third of the way in, so it didn't make it fully onto the plate. The plate started spinning, but the record wasn't in the right place so wouldn't play. When I rejected the selection, it pushed it back into the rack = Tried it several times and although once it pushed the record about halfway in - still had the same issue? Any ideas please?
This sounds like a mechanical adjustment issue or the arm seizing up, it is really hard to know without seeing it in operation. Check the safety plunger at the back of the mechanism (I talk about it briefly in this video). Something to try is to manually cycle the mech by tripping it and slowly turning the flywheel (with the jukebox off obviously). This will allow you to take a closer look at what the moving parts are doing. You may need to find a service manual to go through and check adjustments related to the pickup arm and record clamp.
@@TheCrazzyToobinator Hey thank you so much for taking the time to reply - I really appreciate it. I'll check out your suggestions, Thanks for taking the time to make these videos too - it's a great resource. I actually had it working fine again, but today - it seems to be repeating the issue. Strange thing is it seems okay with a selection in the middle - E3 for example - but if I start at A1 or toward the end of the rack I seem to have the issue again. Anyway - I will check it out, Thanks again, David
Hi, congratulations on your video, I have a problem with Seeburg no longer picking up discs spinning around can you give me some advice? What can I do?
Hey man I have the exact same jukebox and it was working beautifully but it started to give me trouble. When i got the Jukebox the only problem it had was that the cartridge wasn’t any good so I just bought a new one and everything was good. Sometimes it would scan and not pick up the record but then I would just disconnect the memory cable that goes to the control center and a couple of minutes and the connect it again. After that it would pock up the selections I made. Recently after months of not turning it on we wanted to enjoy some tunes but I would select the record and it would go side to side without picking up the record. Then while we were working with it stopped picking up selection and the selection key wouldn’t work. Do you have any suggestions on what can we check to fix these problems?
hello, I have a jukebox like this that I restored a few years ago watching your videos. but now the amplifier has broken and here in Spain it is impossible to get one, and I can't find someone who is capable of fixing it. The only solution I have in mind to be able to continue enjoying the jukebox is to attach a stereo amplifier to it, but I don't know how to make the disc unloading mechanism work. If you could help me I would be grateful
If the jukebox works mechanically you may be able to unplug the two phono jacks from the seeburg amp and plug them into the phono input of another amplifier. Otherwise you may have to find someone who can work on the amp which may be hard to do these days, even for me they are a challenge as they use weird old parts.
@@TheCrazzyToobinator the mechanical part works fine. the problem that I find is in the amplifier, the power supply has burned out and the amplifier, in addition to giving sound, acts as an actuator when the record finishes playing, it has a mechanism that gives current when the record ends and picks up automatically.
@@davidg.1792 I will have to look into this further myself, I don't remember the amplifier being essential for the jukebox to operate but I maybe wrong. Are you sure it is not the tormat unit that is giving you trouble? That is what controls the record pickup/ejection portion and tend to fail if the old caps and SCR are not replaced.
ThermionicWarrior...remember me? I can use some help. The SE100 worked a few times and now just stopped working. It appears that the select-o-matic was playing a song (A1 to be precise) and then returned to home state to the righthand side and just stopped. The only thing I did differently was that when it was playing A1, I tightened the carriage track assembly since it was loose. Normally, I've noticed that when the jukebox was working, that it would return to home state, then hit the rubber bumper then stop with a little bit of recoil. This time when it stopped for good it went back to the right and stopped at the end with no play. I checked this video out, since it appears that the leaf switch connected to the scan solenoid is in the closed position, which you indicated would result in the carriage scanning. The leaf is closed and not scanning. I checked the fuses in the solid state controller and they appear fine. I also recapped the solid state controller and like I said it worked fine until this happened. I cleaned all leaf switched and still no luck.....any ideas. I couldn't find anything that would troubleshoot what's going on online.....any thoughts? Thanks!
I assume you have checked the reversing switch to make sure it did not arc and weld contacts? Toggle the mode switch on top of the mechanism (it will cut power to the motor when in service mode). Briefly hold the momentary switch to see if the motor will run (these switches can go bad sometimes). Another thing to try just to confirm what is working, open the scan contacts (the ones with the two position sprocket) then see if when you put a credit in and make a selection if it closes it to go into the scan sequence. In rare cases the motor start cap can go bad which I believe will also give the same result you are experiencing, motors on the other hand usually don't die at random but they can seize up if never oiled. One last thing, the best way to clean the leaf switches is to use shop towel with a bit of silver polish but to do this properly you have to take them apart but this will get you the result shown in the thumbnail and will prolong the life of the switches as you are not only removing dirt and oils but the oxide layer as well. The quick way to do it is to use 600-1000 grit paper, again you want to make sure any oil or dirt is kept out of them as much as possible, in fact I worked on an AMI where it had some oil get on the "A" side read out contact resulting in only "B" side tracks getting played.
