As a abused person and having a friend/savior died that night and my ex-husband is in prison. I’m grateful for Michael’s help and I miss him every single day. My 11 month old son and I got away from the town and state where it happened. I make 2 trips a year to the city to visit Michael’s grave. Once for his birthday and again at Christmas. He loved Christmas. I will never forget the selfless act Michael did that night nor will I ever forget the lives he gave my son and I have been able to live. ❤

This is whole song is a double entendre concept. From his perspective, it was better for him to be chained up for his actions than for her to live chained up in her partner’s abusive actions. All he asked of her is to wait in the truck…for him. There are so many meanings into this great song. Great reaction 😎👍🏾

clothes on my back and a backpack with any important paperwork. My siblings drove 6 hours to come to rescue me. I had to force my brother to just drive off after I got in the car and he saw that my eyes were bruised shut and I couldn't speak because my windpipe was crushed. He was so controlling that he drove out those six hours to my family's home with a shotgun to kill me and kill himself. Thankfully my father and brother were both there. This was almost 20 years ago and I still have anxiety attacks and PTSD from the physical abuse, rape, and mental trauma that I endured. But I am a Survivor. He was not a part of my child's life for many years until my son got older and never paid child support. I worked three jobs, went to school full time, became a psychologist to help others that have been through trauma, and continue to do so. I have since gotten married and had two children with the man that is "dad" to my son. HE raised him with me. HE paid for all his expenses, HE loves him as one of his own. That is what a Father should be.

If you notice at the end she's also singing "have mercy on me" with him. Like maybe she feels guilty that he's locked up for life for protecting her. I don't know if it's a comment on how DV victims are made to feel worthless and small or if it just sounded good musically, but damn... it hits hard. The whole song hits hard.

You have one of my favorite reactions to this song. Very thoughtful and heartfelt. Most people don’t understand why women stay, but sometimes you are trapped for so many reasons that no one thinks about. And so many nights when you are scared, the avenging Angel would be so welcome. I just wish the court system would have considered justice served and he walked out with her to the truck.

Great reaction! I had to run with my 3 babies to save our lives, we started over with only the clothes we were wearing that day,. The cops were no help (I tried repeatedly and they looked at my bloody busted up face and told me if did as I was told he wouldn't hit me) and after years of getting away with getting worse and worse, we had to run. Every situation is different, but the constant is that no one has the right to abuse another person.

Morally innocent people go to jail every day, for breaking societal laws. BTW, I have watched and subscribed to several people via this song, and enjoyed your reaction

I was in an abusive relationship for over a decade and I prayed for a way to survive many times (his family was in law enforcement and it wasn’t until I moved 4 states away I was able to finally break free). It’s not easy to always feel like your looking over your shoulder or that your being kicked out of the domestic violence shelter because he’s called and asked for you. I made a lot of choices out of fear but I always put in the Lord’s hands 🙌 and trusted He would bring me through.

Yes it's definitely his truck. She's still waiting in the truck. And she hasn't touched a thing in it. Look at the reflection of the stuff in the windshield. His lighter and change and knife is still there. She still sees it as his truck and he is still protecting her. Every southern man and woman knows what wait in the truck means when said in a certain way. It's still another level of protection. He doesn't want her involved in his solution of her problem. Good man. All the way around. Good Man.

This song represents help for the helpless. Most people turn their head to ugly, dangerous, and disgusting things. This song shows a true rescuer with all the bad that can happen. Some get worse than life in prison, some pay with their own life. But the victim will, and can not show how much it means to them. They never completely recover but they do find a breath, and some hope for their future. Most times a child is in the mix Also. Help anyone you can specially if they are abused in any form.

Yeah i agree. I believe Mike Hardy may have been one of those lil guys at one time and in the song when he seen her it was a trigger. He may have been to little to help his mom but he ain't little any longer he may not have been able to help mom but he can help this girl. There are so many ways to interpret this video but as a woman that lived it day in and day out as a child watching dad abuse mom it is definitely a trigger when you come across Ed it as an adult. It just hits different.

A mans honor is what he is. He knew he couldn't walk away and leave her to more torment and possible death. He told her to "wait in the truck" because it was in his hands now. His choice, his sacrifice, his consequence and he wanted her to have no part of that. He made that choice with his honor intact, he was sentenced with his honor intact, he is doing his time with his honor intact. He released her from her prison, her hell and he is at peace with that. Great song. Great topic for discussion.

He knew what had happened to her because he could relate to her because he possibly lived it.. with his mom and dad. He was taking the steps to save her from a future of abuse and death. It satisfies him to do that because of all the years of watching his dad to it his mom until he killed her and no one did anything to protect her and he was too young to help her. He is grown and took the steps necessary to protect someone. Now he is relieved and satisfied the guilt he carried for his own mom.

Funny thing is even though he broke in, he technically acted in self-defense. He shot before he would have been killed. In those situations it's you or them. And the boyfriend had considerable firepower over Hardy. A .357 is nothing compared to a 12 Guage pump action. I personally believe that this is the only way to deal with people like that, They never learn! Until they get hurt too. And I don't mean a prison sentence . I had a best friend who was being physically abused by her boyfriend, who was also an old friend of mine. I gave him some verbal warnings that it needed to stop. But, things only got worse, We were only 14 and the parents didn't give a shit, neither did the authorities. Said there wasn't anything they could do. So It happened one more time... And I snapped, I saw him do it this time. Right outside of school! I tackled him (He was taller than me). I am no trained fighter but, I know how to hurt somebody.I landed 12 strong hits into his face. He hit me back hard about 5 times and elbow sliced me. We were both soaked in blood, My other friend Raegan pulled her knife and Mike grabbed a large tree branch. Sean tried to rush at me and I turned and put my fist straight into his chest with as much force as I could. I Heard a rib crack and he was at a loss for words and breath. On the ground crying like a little bitch. We hovered over him and told him that if he ever crossed us or Rose again, He would be without another 2nd chance at life. We called the paramedics and police. Me and Sean recovered from our struggle. He moved to Texas and Rose to North Carolina. The rest of us in Ohio... 8 years later. Still keep in touch with my friends we all remember that day, like it was yesterday. We were all affected by the actions of Sean. But, no one more than Rosellen. Best wishes to my Best Friend!

Yeah, you can't break into someone's house and then claim self defense. As much as a POS that guy was, he was defending himself and his home. He had no idea who Hardy was or why he was kicking his door down. As much as we cheer Hardy in this story, it was premeditated murder 101. He grabbed his gun before going in and breaking the door down. It's obvious that was his plan as soon as he asked her where he was. He made the choice and suffered the consequences, which tells you even more about the kind of person he is. He was willing to give up his freedom so she could have hers.

Sometimes you have no choice even if it’s the right. Someone I knew in school, their mom is still in prison for killing her husband(might have been divorced I can’t remember) because despite a RO he broke into her house and she had to make a choice. She chose protecting her kids and herself. I still don’t think she should be in prison for it. I’m a mom now and I would do anything to protect my kid. I see it with mom eyes now but my feelings haven’t changed. Nothing would have stopped him from hurting her and those kids. Restraining order did nothing to protect her. What choice did she have in that moment?

Whether or not he deserves to go to prison hes a real one for risking his life to save that girls life. You know how the system works man…Dude would get a lawyer and be out in a week. Hed pay a fine and get probation. Then hed kill her…

May I add and maybe I'm putting to much into this so if I am forgive me..
But I noticed some very compelling things no one has caught.
1st she IS driving his truck ANOTHER MEANING TO "wait in the truck" IS fulfilled because he tells you she's been coming to see him for 5 years.IN HIS TRUCK! I believe she's waiting for him because she knows he's a good man. "On occasion" could possible mean the once or twice a week visitation allowed by the prison.
    2) Look at the scenes of them walking away from each other. She is headed into the light/life while he is headed to a darkened cell. The hem of her jeans could be a symbol of freedom also,
see how they kind of look like wings flapping but his are in chains...she is free completely free no abuser no harm on the other hand he is "a prisoner"(written on his back by the way) and has no freedom. He exchanged his freedom for her to escape her prison. just my 2 cents.

"Whiskey scars I hid" refer to her husband/boyfriend getting drunk then beating her.

I'm sick of living in a world where even mothers say they wouldn't commit murder to protect their own child. They wouldn't take that risk for their own kid. Let alone a stranger. Me, I say wait in the truck... I got it covered. Got a judge under the seat. I don't care if you are a stranger or my blood.
