Yea I’m from the Midwest and whenever something was about to go down you always tell your lady to wait in the truck. It’s known all over the US I assume.
I was saved by a true man at one point in my life. I will forever stand behind him and support him through life.

EVERY southern woman knows what it means when her man says 'wait in the truck'. It's about to go down.

A country boy says wait in the truck and he’s about to do something and you’re safer in the truck .
Here in the southern US, if A guy says to wait in the truck, there's a damn good reason for it. And my advice is to absolutely right there.

The cops in the US tell gun owners to never shoot to wound a person. If you are going to fire the gun, you must kill whatever you are shooting. Criminals who live after being shot will lie in court. I must also point out that Americans (in most of the nation) are allowed to shoot someone for abusing someone else. There are exceptions and limits, but the basic principles are that any person can use force to protect others from harm. And deadly force is included. The biggest problem for the guy in the video is that he entered someone else's home without permission. That is a huge no-no. American laws are very clear on this issue. My home is mine and yours is yours. I say who can enter mine and you control yours. Violating these laws can mean a death sentence in most states.
By the way, the court room in this video seems to be in Tennessee. I say this because the flag behind the judge is the flag of Tennessee-- where Nashville is located. I only point this out because Tennessee is known for good laws to American gun rights and gun ownership.
There is no place in the US where his actions would be legal. She was away from the abuser and not in imminent danger. He picked up a gun and broke into the guy's home. Even if he went in with an intention to confront but not kill the man, he shot someone during the commission of a felony (breaking and entering, assault), and that's felony murder everywhere in America. The jury might nullify (essentially saying, "we know he's guilty, but we don't care"), but there's no real claim for self-defense or defense of others after the fact. Pretty much universally (and definitely here in Tennessee), your actions must be proportional to the threat and in response to a reasonable belief that you or someone you are protecting is in *IMMINENT* danger. That's clearly not the case here.
That being said, any man who has someone he cares about suffer physical abuse has thought about doing what Hardy did in the video. Most don't do it, but they've been tempted. The fact that he didn't run or try to hide his crime but was willing to accept the consequences and trade his freedom for hers is compelling as well. It moves his actions from "clearly wrong" into a "probably wrong but morally gray" area.
I've been her with my 1st husband but I had my family. This song makes me cry every time I see/hear it. In America in the south, a man would protect any woman in distress over himself. I feel maybe song wise, as a kid he maybe saw he mom being abused by his father but was too young to help until as an adult, he saw her in his headlights & took justice in his own hands. Knowing the consequences & knew that man had to die for her to live regardless of his outcome.❤❤

They have changed places. She was in prison and he was free. Now he is in prison and she is free. Same with the truck.

The line in the chorus, “…justice would come from a judge under a seat”, refers to the gun he used that he kept under the seat in his truck.

If seen several comments that express great surprise that a stranger would throw his life and freedom away on a woman he'd never met. My thoughts were that he had a family member (mother, aunt, sister perhaps) who was abused and possibly killed and he couldn't protect. His drastic actions to protect a stranger were a way to seek justice for the past and the present. Also, the abuser was reaching for his own shotgun when he was killed. Not an excuse, but... Just something to remember.

I believe that Hardy's character lost someone he loved to domestic violence.
He had just met her but instantly decided that her only chance was if the b *stard was dead.
The Judge is also a model of handgun as well.
I don't condone vigilante justice but I can fully understand the mindset as well.
I have had a few women in my life who have been victims of domestic violence, including my mom.
The damage it does goes far beyond visible bruises.
One of the most dangerous times for a victim of abuse is when they try to press charges or try to leave.
So many times at least in the US abusers get a slap on the wrist compared to what they deserve if they get charged at all.
Sometimes especially in small towns if the abuser has the right 'connections'.
Then they are back on the streets to abuse that woman or someone else.
Hardy is a cross-over artist doing both Country and Rock songs.
Most of the ones I've heard I think you guys will like because they're more Rock Country/Outlaw Country.

Lainey Wilson is a huge artist on her own and an actress on the series Yellowstone.
I’m with you. I think he did for her what he had been unable to do for his mother. He’s seen it up close and knows this guy is dangerous and will not stop on his own. He also doesn’t trust the police to protect her. I think he made a vow when he was very young that he would never look the other way and allow another woman go through what his mom endured, whether or not she managed to get out of it alive.
Yankee girl here, married to a good ol’ country boy. You don’t have to be with a Southern man… just one who’s a Good man who protects a woman and doesn’t lay his hands on her.
This is Texas we do not put up with type of actions. A judge is always under our seats. But a judge is made by Tarus. A revolver with 410 mini shot gun shells with thermo balls inside the shell.
I know they swapped out using a Taurus Judge in the video, but I understand why they did. They needed something with a shorter barrel for cinematic purposes and let’s face it, the Taurus Judge with the shorter barrel just wouldn’t look good in that shot compared to the Smith and Wesson (I think?) that they used.
Most Country music is just that, a story in song form. Or as they say, Country is 3 Chords and the truth.

Both Hardy and Lainey Wilson are great themselves as well! Hardy’s Rednecker is another fun song that I love and BP1 would have a laugh with I’m sure

Hardy is an original. He was writing for other artists, 'cookie cutter' ready for radio stuff, being a 'Mockingbird' in his eyes. So he started writing what he wanted to say & then he decided to perform it himself. He wrote a song titled 'The Mockingbird & the Crow' & it's really cool. The first half sounds like a traditional type of country song, as he is being a Mockingbird, singing the typical fare & then halfway thru, the music turns harder, more rock like & he becomes the Crow & the lyrics tell his story in a weird way. How his career transformed. His mind seems to be really creative & I enjoy him a lot. My favorite song by him so far is 'Give heaven some hell'. He sees things in a unique way & I love being surprised at where the stories are going.
"Wait in the truck" means I am about to do something you do not need to see. In this situation he knew the cops had no power, because they don't. It was protection of the vulnerable at the cost of himself.

My view is this is a modern day Western for modern times. Did he get extreme in shooting the man, yes but think of it as a classic Western. Its man who will help a lady in distress and he will take the matter into his own hands because it is the right thing to do. He of course will yield to the law once its done. Clearly she will wait to the end of time for her hero. Every woman dreams of the hero, the knight in armor, the sheriff. Hardy is one of the best.
For the Brit’s who don’t understand, the justice system in the US would see her abuser in jail maybe 2-3 years and then he’s free again to do whatever aka he’d go after her again. That man saved her life and gave her her freedom in exchange for his

Time and time again we see in the news a man is arrested for domestic violence, only to be let out on little or no bond then he kills her.
Yep. If they get arrested at all. My dad was the abuser and never got arrested. They told my mom it must have been her fault (this was in the 60s). The justice system is better that it was, but still far from perfect.
As a female who has experienced DV, you can file restraining orders. Those are just paper. Paper is walked right through. I luckily was able to get out of my situation. However, I know had my father known about my situation, he would have done the exact same.
He definitely broke the "cycle". First time hearing this song. Not sure how to feel..abuse is a soul destroying and at times life ending experience and I used to believe in our Judicial System to take care of abusers but it surely has proven not to be true anymore. Just can't get my head or thoughts around murdering someone. Bottom line I just don't know how I feel but it surely makes me sad. Thanks for the reaction guys.

As a teen in the 70s I saw so many abused women and young girls. Where I grew up women belonged to the "man" of the house (Bible Belt USA). However, every once in a while one of those "men" would cross a line and then just take off. The rumors were that they were in hiding under some random septic tank. What do I know? I was just a kid.🤷♀
The pistol he used is called the "judge" that's why she says the line the judge under the seat.....just some American FYI ❤

I see maybe his character had been through something like that before as a child and I'm sure he did think it through because he said, I sat on the porch smoking one of his cigarettes and waited for the cops to come. He traded his freedom for hers and she's still waiting in his truck. He doesn't ask the court for mercy he askes God to have mercy on him because he took a life but he did what he thought was the right thing because the cops don't do nothing but release them back to the streets and too many survivors of domestic abuse don't make it out alive either. And even though he's been locked up so long there's always a chance that if you do the right thing God will bless him and the doors of hell will open if you have faith that it was the right thing to do.

Sadly, telling her to wait in the truck is what ended him up in jail. He broke into the house, and therefore couldn't claim self defense when the guy went for the shotgun. If she had opened the door, a fight started, then he probably could have claimed self defense.

He obviously suffered from PTSD most likely from childhood where he witnessed woman, most likely mother, and perhaps himself and siblings, abused when he was helpless little boy by a man. So when he saw her with wounds in the rain, it all came back and he said, NO MORE. Thus, Wait In The Truck came to be. I'm from Alabama and most southern women know if a guy tells us to wait in the truck, something big is about to go down and we should keep our butts in that seat to stay out of the way.
Actually, in the US --- we do know what it means when someone tells you to 'Wait in the Truck.'
I always hated when my boyfriend (now husband) told me to wait in the truck. Thank goodness he has mellowed out after 40 years.

Picture a man who, when he was a boy witnessed his mother being beaten and he was too small to do anything about it. Maybe even saw his mother killed. Now grown up, he knows where that kind of behavior ends up. He couldn’t save his mother, but here was someone he could save. He was already in hell from his childhood trauma and figured he was willing to spend the rest of his life in prison to protect someone like he had wanted to protect his mother.

So far as the accent, that's just how we sound here in the south. Our accents come as natural as yours. I'm a Texan and you would know it if we ever got on the phone. There's no denying it. As for the rest, yes I have an old pick-up truck and I don't leave the homestead without a loaded gun. I keep a 12 gage behind the seat, and a .45 on me. If you see me on out in public you can safely bet I am well armed, and I am only one of millions. Texas reinstituted what is called "constitutional carry" effective Sept. 1, 2021. This means Texans can once again carry a pistol or long gun openly or concealed. Here in Texas we don't put up with half the BS that most folks do in liberal states.

We dont play around in the South. Do not abuse an Elder, Woman or Child in front of us and youll get to keep eating solid food for the rest of your life.
A "winging shot" means prison anyway, and it would not stop the pattern .. Here in "The states", we take care of things when all else fails, doesn't mean we o around shooting people but, we do get our point across!

The song gives the vibe that he'd originally intended to threaten or beat the guy up, but once the abuser went for the shotgun, that was it. At that point it's either kill the abuser or he's dead then she's next.
You obviously have no idea how abusers work. A flesh wound or a beating would just mean the next time she'll be the one found dead.
If you abuse a woman or a child then to me you give up your right to live. So many women go to the police and they do very little if anything to protect her or her children. Just know that there are many real men that are more than happy to resolve their problem and if that means 60 years then that is ok with me.
The song gives us a thrill of righteous justice carried out, and admiration for the noble sacrifice, and yet . . . it bothers me that the girl is STILL waiting in the truck, still doing as she was told, still being a passive partner. She is still ripe to be abused.
Just going to the authorities often does nothing. Good chance the next time she wouldn't survive.

one night I picked up a girl that was running down a road. it was a very cold night, and she had no coat on. I stopped and she climbed in. that was when I noticed she had two black eyes, bloody nose, ripped clothes. before I can ask, she is telling how her sister's BF's friend had tried to rape her. I tampered down my rage and said I would take her a hospital or were ever she wanted to go. she told me that her keys and everything she needed where back at his house. long story short, I could have been the guy in jail had it not been for the first cop on the scene. Told him the story, not leaving anything out. He told me want to say when I talked to others. in his opinion I did the right thing.
This is the kind of moment that defines you as a person in my opinion. I don't exactly condone going to murder someone but at the same time what would you do in this situation? You've been driving around and see someone in the middle of the road so you stop and notice she is bruised and bloodied. Definitely in an abusive relationship. So what do you do? Do you call the police knowing she will deny everything and jump right back into that fire? Or do you take matters into your own hands?
