The Vikings were actually known to bathe once a week, which isn't great but its a lot better than the rest of Europe at the time. The English only bathed about once a month at best until a couple hundred years ago.

not many strong female characters in this show as its historically accurate to how vikings were back in the day. there is one in the manga and season 2 will be out this year but im not sure if it will cover that far into it.
EDIT: not sure why people are arguing in the replies. This comment is based on brute strength not how good the character is written.
True, there are a few but it's not like they'd let women be warriors, men take care of that.
Being a strong character doesn't just mean being a warrior though. This series has many strong female characters like Thorfinn's sister and even his mom. Season 2 has many more.
@@lurkingposter of course but we are talking pure strength. Thorfinns sister Yylva is exaggerated to have strength as a comedic gag to show she’s the daughter of thors. In comparison to The main cast she isn’t strong at all.
@@lurkingposter You're absolutely right but I feel like many equate "strong female" in anime these days as ones who can fight, like Nobara. They mostly just care about what's on the surface and don't really see that other stuff as noteworthy.

pure strength. Even the "strong" female character you are referring to in season 2 is a sharpshooter not a melee fighter.

You guys shouldn't expect "strong female characters" in every anime just because you watched JJK though, that's an anime about youngsters fighting curses with superpowers so they have more creative freedom, this is more historical and realistic.
Thorkell is best girl though. Also, season 2 will have a strong female character.

There's no reason not to have strong female characters in media.
just because those old ass Manga writers had 0 social lives and never interacted with women, doesn't mean that it should be the norm lmao.
I fully expect strong female characters in a lot of the shows I plan to watch, some historical others not.

i think you not understand well how slave life was... they were in need for someone to take care of their lives mostly they wouldn't servive on their own

@@dorfinn2196 Thorfinn's sister has already proven to be strong in season 1. Not in being an awesome warrior but in being mentally strong. I don't get why they want a physically strong female character, as long as they are well written. In season 1 Ylva is closer to be a true warrion than Thorfinn is

Ah yes, lots of strong female characters back in the Viking era...
Dude there were very very very very few physically strong women back then, since no woman ever had the freedom to even pursue physical training, since that simply wasn't their role in society. So there ain't no Olivier Mira Armstrong or anyone like that. There are still important well written female characters, but to see one fighting would ruin the immersion and realism that this show has done a really good job of providing.
