Christofer is so laconic, he cracks me up. I’m curious how you do laundry in your house without huge volumes of water. Also the people in the village, how do their above ground water mains not freeze? Insulated or boxed in and warmed? Curious in general about the water situation. And how does your car not freeze overnight? I’m in upstate NY (USA) in the mountains and I put my car inside the garage in the winter when it dips to like -15 degrees Celsius. I can see living clustered together in townhouses or apartments but your cabin baffles me not because of the cold per se but because of the isolation and lack of piped-in water and I never see any electrical wires leading to your house but maybe I need to look more carefully.

I doubt very much that I will ever get as far north as Svalbard, but it looks so beautiful and the lifestyle so sane! I live in Oxfordshire in the UK, which has its own beauty and is very British, but I do intend to get to Scandinavia again, in particular Norway and Sweden. I look forward to all the coming videos and am presently watching all the others you have posted. Grim is the real star though, of course!! Ha, ha!

My sister and husband left Colorado and moved to Alicante, Spain, they are there 2 years and just bought a home there on the Mediterranean Sea. They loved it. We have socialized medicine in Canada too, and it’s fantastic. Sadly, some American’s have been convinced to believe that ‘free’ medical care is lower-standard…and it isn’t. AT ALL. All I can say is that: you can get cancer in Canada (and I’d imagine Scandinavia), fight it and not have to mortgage your house…or claim bankruptcy. Great episode!
Not just Scandinavia. Socialized healthcare is the standard in all of Europe, and i imagine in most of the world. It's not that we are super advanced, it's that the US is backwards in this regard.

Yes.. Connecticut is a beautiful little state with a lot to offer... the only downside is.. it's very expensive to live here.. I've been all over the US but I always return to the Constitution state.

I’m now obsessed with Svalbard and, of course, polar bears. When I see you driving snowmobiles I’m always worried that a polar bear will chase you. I think it’s so magnificent there but don’t think, with my brain that shifts straight into worry mode, I would survive there well. Still, a visit next time we travel to a Norway to see family is possible. I really want to see polar night and the auroras.

Interesting factoid: I read that the reason people can't be buried there is because of the flu pandemic about a century ago. Several people who died in the flu pandemic are buried there and decades later, the bodies had yet to decompose because the ground is permanently frozen. TPTB were worried that the virus that killed them is merely dormant (not dead) and could potentially be re-released and infect people if the ground was disturbed. However, I also read that your ashes can be buried there with special permission, which now prompts the question... ...is there a crematorium in Longyearbyen? :-)

Hey, I’m a photographer, and besides Tromsø I have Svalbard on my list for Norway (I guess is a nice combination). But anyway, my question: is there by any chance a possibility for u to share the coordinates of the most interesting points in and around Svalbard? Especially something like at 1:20 . I honestly think there are some spots u have to visit by ur self, to life them and to take ur own shot in ur way and style of art, instead of just copy others. And to be honest u did a great copy-worthy work there, I love this picture.

Interesting factoid: I read that the reason people can't be buried there is because of the flu pandemic about a century ago. Several people who died in the flu pandemic are buried there and decades later, the bodies had yet to decompose because the ground is permanently frozen. TPTB were worried that the virus that killed them is merely dormant (not dead) and could potentially be re-released and infect people if the ground was disturbed. However, I also read that your ashes can be buried there with special permission, which now prompts the question...
...is there a crematorium in Longyearbyen? :-)

Hey, I’m a photographer, and besides Tromsø I have Svalbard on my list for Norway (I guess is a nice combination).
But anyway, my question: is there by any chance a possibility for u to share the coordinates of the most interesting points in and around Svalbard? Especially something like at 1:20 .
I honestly think there are some spots u have to visit by ur self, to life them and to take ur own shot in ur way and style of art, instead of just copy others. And to be honest u did a great copy-worthy work there, I love this picture.
