Mel, this trick may not have worked for the books at 28:16 but when using bubble mailers for tight items, cut a tiny hole on the corner of one bottom end of the package and tight items slight right in, When sealing, put a piece of packing tape on that corner to reseal it. Often it's the captured air at the bottom of the mailer stopping tight fighting items from sliding in. Try it another time, you'll be amazed how great it works.
Mel, consider getting a white board w/erasable marker at your new location and place it by your main desk area. I use mine daily for items I just need to remember for the day but don't need to write down in a planner for the future. Small, but important, details such as Buyer A gets two lots shipped together, Book B is out of place remember to re-shelve or reclassify before leaving, etc. You'd be amazed how your mind frees up removing these tasks to one area and you have so much more energy, while at the same time giving yourself tremendous comfort and grace of not having to remember all these little important details. At the end of every day I wipe the board clean and it's a sense of accomplishment and it's reassuring knowing I didn't 'forget' anything. It's too easy to misplace small pieces of papers with notes on them and sticky notes fall off so the white board is fantastic. It's also a great way to leave messages for people coming/leaving your warehouse. When you get one, get one with a lip to hold your markers and eraser or have a magnetic cup or something immediately by it so you can keep everything together. Just like the tape dispenser, it's a game-changer.
You should consider having bookmarks made up with your store name, and Thank You and put them with each order. Enjoy your videos. Have a Merry Christmas 🎄
I watched rom start to finish...cleaning the kitchen, reheating leftovers, eating...mand learned a lot, and enjoyed it. Thiscwas a Master Class in inventory and shipping, fascinating to me. Thank you, Mel! And Thom, Patience is a Virtue...especially when Mel is making money making a video!!!!
You need a BIG sign on to put on your door, "FILMING - quiet on the set" LOL. And be sure to manage expectations well by saying ok then I will set a timer and be done by 1.5 hours...and then do that. Its so nice to see you are making some good sales and appear happy! Remember: A BIG sign :-) and a timer will be a good addition to the new warehouse space.
Man, I want to do this so badly but can't even fathom where to start. I've tried doing it in the past on a very small scale but got frustrated with how much space it was taking up and re-donated about half my books. I was never able to make any money doing it. People don't seem to want to pay money for books here. I'm sure I'm doing it wrong lol. But I'm going to pick it back up and see if maybe I have better luck thanks to you're inspiration! Thank you for sharing your insights!
I like your new u shape bench arrangement, but have a suggestion for the new warehouse. If you add a short shelf at the loading bench end (where your gray trash bin hangs now) that would put the top of your open IKEA bag at the height of your package bench you will have an even easier time loading the packages into the IKEA bag and once full won’t have as difficult time lifting full bags off bench top. 😉
@@backfromburnout Any low bench or cube that the IKEA bag would be stable on would be good and if there was a bit of storage under it (maybe for more empty bags) even better. I've always felt the more IKEA bags the better, I love them and every time I go over to the city, where our IKEA is, buy a couple more. Here they cost me about $1 per bag in blue, a bit more in other colors. 😉
You have been a great teacher, Mel. It is because of watching your clips on successful selling on Ebay that I've been making sales. Which is not bad since I only started in September. I've also got 2 regular contacts now, so I buy books from them every fortnight. Thank you again ❤
Just when I think I've figured it out I learn YOU'RE WRAPPING YOUR HAND. Omg mind blown. Thank you for showing that. Also! I tend to work/watch your videos... I have definitely noticed the prices you are saying going up lately. Love seeing you implement the small uptick in ASP.
Mel, just thinking about what you said about your packing station....you could get Thom to cut a hole in your worktop so you can just slide your rubbish into it ( bin placed directly below the hole)( under your worktop)....❤
About the other tapegun, I do agree with you, but I solved the issue by placing it on the shelf in front of me, standing behind the table. For me the perfect height is about 20 cm above my packing table. Then I can use it without the tape sticking to the table!

In the states the post office raises shipping rates twice a year. I quit free shipping on my items 2 years ago and noticed zero drop off in sales. I had to charge bc USPS was raising rates too much.
Australia post are becoming ridiculously expensive, they have also increased pricing several times over the past 2 years. A small satchel costs $10.95 AU to mail which is $7.11 USD
Fantastic video Mel, gave me a 1-hour listing spree of my own items while I watched you. I love your enthusiasm in your videos. Thom reminds me of my husband - gotta be ready when he is ready haha I always tell him an extra half hour than I actually need so hes not rushing me lol
Great video. Instead of putting books after packaging on the bench, what if you put IKEA bag on top of the bench then put packaging in it? No bending over and eliminates extra step.
Yes great tip. I do that often when I’m not filming but the bags make really loud crinkle noises in the video so I try to avoid them when I film sometimes if I have other background noises on top
Looks like you might need to buy some mailer boxes (for the ken follett group) as the price per box is usually cheaper than an ex large satchel postage charge

Mel, a lot of us use a bunch of tape and are over-packers 🤓. I think it's just because we like to make sure things arrive nicely. Carriers have a tough job and items can fall off trucks, get tossed around, etc. and the extra second of time or inch or two of tape shows the customer we appreciate them. Plus you never know when rough weather can pop up at the buyer's location and safe-and-secure is always the better option.

When you purchase your mailers from Aus Post does that go towards your Aus Post business account and help up your band? I asked Aus Post today but the girl didn't know. Thanks, Lara x

What is the shipping service level / speed you use? In the United States, we have media mail for things like books and CDs which is cheap but it's slow. It looks like your mailers may be the equivalent of US Priority Mailers but that's just a guess.
Australia Post is normally 3-4 days deliver here. I try and ship daily to have the parcels arrive as fast as possible. Sometimes they arrive next day it just depends where they’re going. City areas arrive faster.
@tracygarrett3952 i think she was when she filmed but that was mid November by the looks of it. The store is currently closed by the looks of it while she sorts the new warehouse

These mailers are from Australia Post.

City areas arrive faster.
can you leave a link for the type of envelopes you use for shipping books?
I use mailers by Australia Post
Temporarily move the trash can to the side. I've watched you and you don't step into that space as you put the packaged books on the table
loving the long videos🤩🤩
Thank you!
Hello Mel I'm Eric ❤🎉
Your eBay store isn’t open?
I am pretty sure I saw a facebook story recently that she has it closed while she moves into the new warehouse
She said she listed 200 books over the weekend and she's mailing them out, so it looks like she's open??
@tracygarrett3952 i think she was when she filmed but that was mid November by the looks of it. The store is currently closed by the looks of it while she sorts the new warehouse
@@kellygalea9697 Thanks for that info. I hope she has footage of the process. I love that kind of stuff.
@@tracygarrett3952videos are coming Tracey
Mel cut a hole in your bench and put your bin under the bench.
😀😀
Maybe you did that for show, rather than put the padded books to table, why don't just have the ikea bag ready so you just put it directly in it.
MEL!!! Hello :)
Hello! ❤
Hi Mel. I could ask what your seller name on ebay is
It’s linked in my bio but I’m on timeaway currently so the listings are all hidden currently
Warum kann ich deinen ebay Shop nicht finden? Beziehungsweise sind da keine Produkte.
I’ve taken some time off while I rest after the move and organise the new warehouse.
