This is seriously one of the most brilliant Case 1 landings I have seen on TH-cam, can't tell you how many times I've watched/studied this. One thing that blows my mind is how the heck do you get on speed and trimmed out so fast after completing the initial 180 break back towards the carrier?! You get dialed in so quickly and so precisely! Is there heavy use of DLC, or is that purely from trimming and managing throttle? I always run into the issue with struggling to keep the nose from taking a huge dive and losing too much altitude after completing the turn and trying to get on speed. Never quite sure when to get back on the throttle and how much to give. You do it flawlessly man, so many things happening in such a short window of time! Truly impressive! Cheers!

In the fleet out on deployment or doing work-ups with the CvBG, most of the time there will be a guard ship stationed 1000yds directly aft which in addition to being there to pick up anyone who goes in the drink is also there for a quick indexing while landing. You should be coming out of the 90 just forward of the duty guard and is especially useful while doing quals.

one of the carrier checklist landing that is missing is to turn autoskid off because in many cases it is on, beautiful video, i think im good enough already after 3400h of DCS but i always learn, i always have this habit landing to early and catch the first or second wire, i feel my landings are good controlled , centered and safe, but it is a habit that i need to change....dam i keep doing these "perfect " landings, always on speed but i have this tendency to touch down some feet earlier.

  • @costanza3332
    @costanza3332 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Question: You are not using auto throttle in this video correct? Also, on the final turn towards the back of the carrier how do you keep your onspeed AOA so perfect? Are you primarily managing throttle, or constantly trimming as well to keep the E bracket centered? Much use of DLC? My issue is that right at the last second when I level out from the turn just as I'm about to reach the deck my AOA goes totally out of whack. Do you have a recommendation in terms of keeping it simple / focusing on just certain control elements and leaving others alone? I think I might be messing with too many things and making it overly complicated. But at the same time, every adjustment with the Tomcat then requires re-adjustment of some other area. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much! Still the absolute best Case-1 vid in the Tomcat on TH-cam, hands down!

    Serval question maverick
1 how do you maintain on speed whilst the rpm is around 90%, for at 90% rpm the aircraft would accelerate for which would rise the E bracket over over 10 AoA making it unreachable , for me is usually 85%~86%rpm
2how do you ensure stable banking and on speed while the aircraft is in 120 knots extreme low speed, and still having steady glide slope
3 the dlc is highly disruptive to aoa and on speed, but in you video, there is no such sign
4 in manual, dlc are designed to control sink rate without using throttle, did you use both throttle and dlc on on final approach? If is, how do you still ensure sinking while having an 90% high rpm?
if you don’t mind, please consider remake a video that could show your stick movement as well as the mirror to help us learn about your control. you have so far the BEST carrier landing in TH-cam

Mav, this is a great video. I'm working on my traps now, trying to get more proficient at them. The main issue I'm having is throttle control. I want to get good with manual throttles befor letting AUTO take over. The only thing I want to see in videos like this is a repeater for your input, so guys like me who can't quite get positions right can see where you are putting the controls at certain moments.
I'm loving the 'Cat, she really needs finesse and I'm working still on calming down my inputs.
I suppose the smarter thing to do would be to try landing on solid ground first >_>

@@104thMaverick That would be great! I got my first couple 3 wires today but I went way outside NATOPS and started on the groove more like 1.2nm out instead to give myself more time to get the bird where I wanted it to be. My specs are listed in the description if you want to take a peek sir.
RAM wise I highly suggest at least 32GB if you can stretch to it, DCS can be very RAM intensive and having only 16GB can be a slight handicap in certain servers or missions.

I know this video is old, but it's really great to watch someone do this and have them slowly explaining things out at first and speed it up as the procedure goes on. A lot of the stuff for this procedure just barely made sense because in most cases it doesn't seem like you should have a speedbrake for landing, rely so much on weird flaps and stuff to land but seeing it in motion it makes much more sense. I know this video is old, but I do have a question. Do you possibly know why the procedure asks for wings swept back so far on the approach? Wouldn't it make more logical sense to have the wings forward for lift and to slow down? I don't know, just has always seemed odd.

The wing swept back was purely aesthetic mate, they simply did this because it looks cooler 😆
Thanks for the kind words, I’m glad the video helped.

I literally just started playing this game, I do not understand a single thing about what you're saying xD. But I'll try to improve on the game.

Damn I cannot land the cat on the carrier when I do the pattern. I think I can get set up pretty well after the break but always botch the final turn and totally miss the glideslope. The landing usually ends with crashing into the back of the boat or a bolter. Way harder than the hornet IMO, you made it look so easy

Just realized I wasn't putting my hook down. I thought hook bypass kept it up and it lowered automatically with the gear lmfao

Also set ILS on HUD and VDI, so you have both needles for the correct approach and glide slope. Without ILS set the carrier heading minus 9 degrees, so you have the exact heading for the angled deck
