And still nailing, though, I wish he played his own lick instead of Dizzy’s perfected version. He loved Dizzy so much that he always played some lick of his when he was soloing.
Still remember seeing Jon live in the UK at a jazz festival. Absolutely the loudest player I’ve ever heard and I’ve seen and played with a lot! His power and sound are off the scale!
Pretty sure Faddis was playing like his hair was on fire. Now THAT is the way "A Night in Tunisha" should sound. WOW! as usual, his use of range and dynamics was amazing andf the whole band was cookin'. Terrific solos all around!
Yeah Jon Faddis! Still amazing! I saw you when you were really young, with Thad and Mel's Orchestra in Miami. Lew Soloff was in the section next to you! Hi Derek Pyle!!
Alright, I've got to ask, how are they getting all of these guys to stop by? The house is nearly empty, and I'm not seeing that they sell the recordings or anything. Super great to listen to, but ... how?! haha
From what I've gathered, the actual musicians that played in this band didn't call it by its name, they just called it "Donny Dyess's band." There's something about all of the really good lead trumpet players in that they all seem to know each other or have at least played a gig with one another somewhere in time. My GUESS is that he just called up his buddies to come play with his band, which just happened to be world-class soloists and lead players
@@timalmen6134 I guess they were originally supposed to try to make an album or collection of albums. But, it didn't happen. So, they're just mastering the mixes they recorded when they have the time and posting them in this format instead
@@ethansmith1791 Feel very fortunate to have all of this incredible content made available by them -- a real treasure trove of incredible performances!
Love these drop-ins by trumpet roualty, RAJE! But PLEASE work on your videography! It’s so unnerving seeing the shaky, out of focus, badly framed capture!
Does any other song have such a great groove? Bass player is really laying it down. First half of video was fine…. Then? Typical normal nauseating inducing Blair witch video.
Jon’s range is still in the stratosphere. Legendary
Yet another trumpet legend stops by.
Amazing this.. Arturo Sandoval, James Morrison, Jon Faddis and Louis Dowdeswell, Allen Vizzutti, had some incredible trumpet players here
Nah, they are getting highly paid by "someone" to be there lol.
🔥🔥🎺🎺Smokin Band Faddis KILLIN IT !!!🎺🎺🔥🔥
Faddis playing the same old lick over and over throughout the years. Gotta love it! 😂

Who's the trumpet at the back? Such a kick ass solo.
Stuart Mack
Faddis makes playing in the upper register of a trumpet look way too easy
The livin legend
Who is soloing on trumpet? Great sound and skills!
@@dominikborek7516 Jon Faddis.
@@timalmen6134Of course Jon Faddis 😂 😂I asked for the 1st soloist
Not bad. Going from Dave Stahl to Jon Faddis. Two of the great lead players of all time! Who’s next?
@@patrickohara2012 Lynn Nicholson
Is this a recent recording and if so where is this venue?
Supposedly in Dallas and these are several years old
Buzzbrew in Deep Ellum, Dallas.

I always wonder that, too. I'd happily buy recordings by this group!
