From Warner Bros. Pictures and Amazon Studios, “The Goldfinch” is the film adaptation of Donna Tartt’s globally acclaimed best-selling novel, which won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction.
Directed by BAFTA Award winner John Crowley (“Brooklyn”), the film features a multigenerational cast led by Ansel Elgort (“Baby Driver”) as Theo Decker and Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman (“The Hours,” “Big Little Lies”) as Mrs. Barbour.
Theodore “Theo” Decker was 13 years old when his mother was killed in a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The tragedy changes the course of his life, sending him on a stirring odyssey of grief and guilt, reinvention and redemption, and even love. Through it all, he holds on to one tangible piece of hope from that terrible day...a painting of a tiny bird chained to its perch. The Goldfinch.
“The Goldfinch” is produced by Nina Jacobson (“The Hunger Games” films, “American Crime Story”) and Brad Simpson (“World War Z,” “American Crime Story”). Mari Jo Winkler-Ioffreda, Kevin McCormick, Sue Kroll and Courtenay Valenti served as executive producers. The screenplay is by Oscar nominee Peter Straughan (“Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”), based on the novel by Donna Tartt, which spent 30 weeks on The New York Times Best Sellers list.
The film also stars Oakes Fegley (“Pete’s Dragon”) as Young Theo, Aneurin Barnard (“Dunkirk”) as Boris, Finn Wolfhard (“Stranger Things,” “IT”) as Young Boris, with Sarah Paulson (“The Post,” “American Crime Story”) as Xandra, Luke Wilson (“The Royal Tenenbaums”) as Larry, and Jeffrey Wright (“The Hunger Games” films) as Hobie.
Rounding out the main ensemble cast are Ashleigh Cummings (“Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries”) as Pippa, Willa Fitzgerald (“Little Women”) as Kitsey Barbour, Aimee Laurence (“Chicago P.D.”) as Young Pippa, Denis O’Hare (“American Horror Story”) as Lucius Reeve, and Boyd Gaines (2014’s “Driving Miss Daisy”) as Mr. Barbour.
The behind-the-scenes creative team included Oscar-winning director of photography Roger Deakins (“Blade Runner 2049”), Oscar-nominated production designer K.K. Barrett (“Her”), editor Kelley Dixon (“Breaking Bad”), and costume designer Kasia Walicka Maimone (“Bridge of Spies”). The music is by Trevor Gureckis (“Bloodline”).
“The Goldfinch” is a presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures, in association with Amazon Studios, a Color Force Production, a John Crowley Film. Slated for release on September 13, 2019, it will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures. “The Goldfinch” has been rated R for drug use and language.
Cast, cinematography, background music... everything is just so perfect about it. Hope it does justice to the book.

After quite some time I watched trailer in repeat...absolutely amazing...extremely intrigued to watch this movie!!

this is my all-time favourite book and will definitely be beating ‘dead poets society’ as being my favourite film. these characters, the plot, the raw depiction of trauma and addiction, of grief and impermanence, this is everything i could want in a novel and more. this is my entire heart.
It's 2am in London and I just finished the book literally weeping. Will be watching the film on my birthday. This really is the rainbow edge.

I just finished the novel a few hours ago after two weekends of pretty much ignoring everything else going on in my life. It was one of the best books I've ever read. I can't wait to see this movie!

I'm so excited for this movie. The book was excellent and just looking at the trailers I think the movie will be just as excellent. All the people here for Finn, don't and probably won't understand most of what is going on. Half of these comments are about Finn and his kissing scene or Stranger Things. I'm not saying that you can't watch a movie for an actor but don't make the movie all about him/her. Appreciate everything.

Couldn't be more excited for this! The cinematography looks gorgeous. Roger Deakins take a bow. Oakes Fegley as young Theo is so perfectly cast, as is Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Barbour. Really excited to see Sarah Paulson's Xandra.
Just a FYI for all the non-book readers, the character of Boris is supposed to sound like a mix of an Australian Dracula, because his character has bounced from living in places like New Zealand, Ukraine, Alaska, etc. That's the character I'm most excited to see as I think Finn Wolfhard and Aneurin Barnard were cast really well as young Boris and adult Boris.

I just read the book and it's wonderful! It taught me of letting go. Because when we hold on to something for so long, it stops us from seeing the other part of the world. Theo's life would've turn to a change if he return early that painting.
This movie was crippled by unchecked expectation and poisonous assumption based on poor *initial* word-of-mouth. But I bet it goes down as a criminally-underappreciated film. It's genuine, beautifully-made, and truly a memorable work of art.
