Heard so many bad reviews. So I decided to go watch it for myself. It was brilliant, from the acting all the way down to every bit of carefully crafted cinematography.
Best trailer I’ve seen so far this year. It’s just so good. This film looks powerful, poignant, and absolutely stunning. Shout-out to Roger, the best cinematographer to ever live.
I actually don't like the choice for young Boris's character.... the only thing that matches is probably the dark hair, which is supposed to be dead straight anyway... he doesn't look like Boris at all.. I would have picked Asa Butterfield instead
Didn’t think it was a masterpiece at all. I loved the cinematography and the story but they couldn’t handle the transitions to the past and present. There was just a bunch of random events in this boy’s life that didn’t all revolve around the painting. Think this is one of those adaptations that should’ve stayed a novel or a mini series at the most.
I bought the book on a train station and started reading it on my way to a funeral of a friend, who had also been taken too young, too violently. I cried while reading it and I almost cried while watching this trailer. Back when I bought the book I couldn't have known how much it would reflect on my feelings I had during that time. The book is deeply psychological and depicts grief, guilt and morality in an incredibly complex and realistic way. To be honest I don't have too many hopes that the movie will live up to Donna Tartt's masterpiece . But the cast and the cinematography of the trialer seem promising. Read the book, people. It's truly beautiful. I dread and look forward to the opening of the movie in the same time.
Oh, I read the book, intrigued by the trailer. But unfortunately, I did not find anything great or beautiful about it, or Dickensian, or coming-of-age, to cite a few descriptions widely applied to this book. The beginning looked promising, but 1/4 into the book, it turned into a never-ending drug/alcohol trip, which is essentially what the book is: promotion of drug use. I know this sounds harsh, but I honestly tried to find more in it, and couldn't.

@Lily good literature is called literature because it says something about society, or teaches something in a way that moves people. I dont like how it pretends to though, much like a shallow self help novel.
Aneurin Barnard - he is absolutely brilliant. You might know him from The White Queen or Dunkirk. It is brilliant casting for him to play Boris - he has that dark brooding 'been up all night' look - although he is Welsh not Russian you can completely see him as Slavic.
aquablushgirl Ooh, I haven't seen any of his films before, but he is *exactly* how I pictured Boris' character to look. I'm actually Russian and I agree, he has a distinctly Slavic look. I have high hopes for this adaptation of The Goldfinch! 👍

I found it so well written and acted that it just made me love it. The personal trauma connecting him and his mother and the girl and the who asked to save the painting is just so powerful. The end when they stand before the painting together was so moving, the real life story of the painting too.

i just spent an hour reading an abundance of bad reviews about the goldfinch and now i am devastated because i was SO excited to watch this film (it is not a lie when i say that i watch this trailer every morning while i get ready)
Well do remember, lately, movies have had a reputation of bad reviews done by critics but the audience everywhere praises it. Don’t believe what they say until you see the movie yourself. (Because I was also disheartened about the reviews but it only reinforced my want to watch this movie.) So don’t feel too discouraged!
I saw it today. I’d say it’s a worth watch. It was a good storyline. But there were some aspects with the characters in the movie that made it hard to follow. Because it jumps between time periods of his life. So you have characters when they were children, then as adults. And I was trying to remember besides the main character, who was who.
It was beautiful though, wasn't it...? I haven't read it yet but it truly felt like a final thank you for some reason. And now I'm motivated to pick up the book again. That's what art is supposed to do.

I don't think these two lines belong together. The latter part should be at the very end of the movie, the former could potentially be somewhere inbetween.
I’ve been a huge fan of this book for over a year, so I was really excited/nervous when the trailer came out yesterday. Needless to say, it absolutely blew me away and I cried a lot over how incredibly beautiful this trailer looks. Looking forward to seeing this movie in September!
As he _always_ should be. He is a god amongst his mere mortal counterparts. If anything, I also kind of feel bad for whoever else is working on a Roger Deakins picture, because no matter how _amazing_ the direction/acting/script/music, etc. is, no one is ever going to get higher praise than Deakins for his cinematography. And I am A-OK with that!
The book is my all time favourite. I devoured it over a few days back in 2012 and remember the stunningly beautiful phrases Tartt used to tell the gripping story. It seems the cinematography will do those phrases justice..I CANT WAIT to see the film.
I happened upon this book completely by chance and despite its staggering length, I decided to jump in. This book is more than that, it’s an epic that follows the main character throughout an incredible arc of growth, while being held up by a tapestry of supporting characters and places that are so achingly detailed you feel as though you are part of this journey from start to finish.
Stunning. Absolutely stunning. A trailer composed of beautiful music fitting the ambience of the movie alongside scenes that allow you to grip the plot of the movie, but not the conclusion. Bravo I say to you, bravo!
Oh my god I read this book about 4 years ago and when I heard they were making a movie I was so excited and this trailer absolutely exceeded my expectations; exactly how I pictured it when I was reading. Plus an amazing cast and Purfume Genius in the trailer?! Wow! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

This is one of the best trailers I’ve seen for a while. This is perfection. Shows the themes of the film and a very very light hint at what it’s about without spoiling it..
I dont understand how they can create a movie based on that book. It must be impossible to reach the same level of perfection. There are so many details in the book that can be boring. This is a book where the movie should win Oscars.
I saw a short trailer of this on TV and loved the cinematography. Blue and orange seem to be really prominent colors; the shot with Ansel laying on the bed with blue light on one side and orange on the other looks gorgeous, and those colors were incorporated in so many of the other shots. Loved the music in it too. Probably the best trailer I've seen in a while.

Well said I dont tits and dicks and exploding cars to enjoy a movie
ekatrinya and no plot either 🤷♂️
@@Xenonic2 oop-
Xenonic2 huh.
for someone who didnt read the book is probably a really nice movie.... but I read it and I understand the bad critics, totally miss the point of the book.
This is one of the greatest novels of our century and I can’t wait to see its cinematic interpretation
What novel is this?
@@DeandreSteven the same name as the film
Agreed. Quite an exceptional novel.
that is really sad to hear. this book certainly didnt change me or teach me anything like it believes it does.
@Lily good literature is called literature because it says something about society, or teaches something in a way that moves people. I dont like how it pretends to though, much like a shallow self help novel.
thank you sweet baby jesus for finally adapting a Donna Tartt novel!!!
SPOILER
THIS MOVIE IS GONNA WIN OSCAR!
YES
Definitely
Joker?
@@tinbui7202 both for oscar but different category i think?
Nothing can beat The Joker
The actor who plays Boris as an adult is so perfect 😭💕 I'm excited to see this! The Las Vegas house and Sarah Paulson in her Xandra attire... Amazing!
Aneurin Barnard! Love him he's such a babe 😍
@Jimmy Barker I have never seen X-Men so could not say!
@@aquablushgirl His performance in The White Queen is brillient! I heard he did a big research before entering to the character! that's the best performance about Richard III to me in a adoptation!
I found it so well written and acted that it just made me love it. The personal trauma connecting him and his mother and the girl and the who asked to save the painting is just so powerful. The end when they stand before the painting together was so moving, the real life story of the painting too.
I don't know about the box office, but this movie has a future classic written all over it!
And Nicole Kidman is still breathtaking by the way...
I don't think it's possible to make Nicole look anything less than extraordinary!
Ariadlus Daedaladne Enigmus Proximo kids in the year 2040 will be making reports on this

Bravo!! The film looks stunning and gorgeous. What an amazing cast. Can't wait to watch it in September!

Mr. Roger Deakins, for you, ladies and gentlemen!
Please please please be good. This is kind of my favorite book
Honestly I'm terrified haha
I agree. I'm shaking with anticipation based on the trailer, but also terror. This is absolutely my favorite book.
Tell me in a few lines about the book.
@@decodingcap9965" Theodore “Theo” Decker was 13 years old when his mother was killed in a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The tragedy changes the course of his life, sending him on a stirring odyssey of grief and guilt, reinvention and redemption, and even love. Through it all, he holds on to one tangible piece of hope from that terrible day...a painting of a tiny bird chained to its perch. The Goldfinch"

Most beautiful trailer ever. Lost my mother 20 years ago and it's as if it was last week. Healing...
"To lose something, that should've been immortal" goddamitt that line gets me everytime
My God, I thought a doorbell was right next to me binaural audio is great
That's what I call a great cinema!
I saw this ad for the first time today and was about to skip and then the song started playing and holy crap, I’m so glad I kept watching. I really want to see this now.
Next , someone make a movie adaptation of The Secret History .
Please
AND THE TALE OF HARRIET CLEVE DUFRESNE
Unfortunately I'm pretty sure Donna Tartt is refusing to sell the rights to it... oh well :(
Pleaaaaase
Ujjyaini Bose I selfishly don’t want anybody to make a movie about the Secret History because nobody will be able to do it justice.
@@rebecasandoval498 i kind of disagree, i think it can be done with the right people and script.
"we all feel afraid sometimes." wow. what a moving revelation. a stunning conceptual breakthrough in cinema.
i just spent an hour reading an abundance of bad reviews about the goldfinch and now i am devastated because i was SO excited to watch this film (it is not a lie when i say that i watch this trailer every morning while i get ready)
Me too! It has made my day even worse than it already was :(
wow me too. I've watched this trailer too many times and reading about the latest reviews makes not happy
Same here :(
Well do remember, lately, movies have had a reputation of bad reviews done by critics but the audience everywhere praises it. Don’t believe what they say until you see the movie yourself.
(Because I was also disheartened about the reviews but it only reinforced my want to watch this movie.)
So don’t feel too discouraged!
I saw it today. I’d say it’s a worth watch. It was a good storyline. But there were some aspects with the characters in the movie that made it hard to follow. Because it jumps between time periods of his life. So you have characters when they were children, then as adults. And I was trying to remember besides the main character, who was who.
Real solid cast right here. I like Ansel a lot too. Ever since A Fault in Our Stars.
when B O R I S hugs T H E O ... my heart sinks.
hope those who have read the book do understand my feelings.
Aye aye,
One of my favourite books of all time
And the umbrella!! Aaaahhhh!
From the bottom of my heart I understand 😭
It was beautiful though, wasn't it...? I haven't read it yet but it truly felt like a final thank you for some reason. And now I'm motivated to pick up the book again. That's what art is supposed to do.
Geez this trailer looked better than most movies at full length
no
This trailer actually convinced me to read the book lol
Edit: I'm a hundred pages in and I love it but it also makes me want to scream into a pillow
Edit 2: I'm two hundred pages in and I don't want it to ever end
Edit 3: I finished it yesterday and my life is empty now
Edit 4: I miss one year ago when I was about to discover this book and experience it for the first time
what did you think of it?
@@codenameverity I still haven't finished it; I'm about 500 pages in atm - yes, I'm a pretty slow reader ;) (so no spoilers pretty please). The writing is MINDBLOWING. I've really, really enjoyed it this far. I'm going to watch the movie as soon as I finish it.
@@Misspol222 I'm so glad to read you are enjoying the book, it's one of my favourite books and like you really didn't want it to end, so tried to read it as slow as possible. If you've not already read it then can I recommend Donna Tartt's second book The Little Friend.

"to lose something, that should have been immortal; please, tell me, it isn't true." Is such a wonderfully written line.
Incredible book. The trailer looks beautiful hope the film is great too.
I have read the book.It appears to look good. But its a shit pile.
Roger Deakins is the true star here.
You damn right he is
As he _always_ should be.
He should've read the book then.
To remember every scene from the book, I can tell the adaptation is remarkable.... straight to the heart, cannot wait to see it.

"To lose something that should've been immortal..." thinking about this movie always gets me going 😭. The book was incredible.
it's rodger deakins' appreciation hour bois
Stunning. Absolutely stunning. A trailer composed of beautiful music fitting the ambience of the movie alongside scenes that allow you to grip the plot of the movie, but not the conclusion. Bravo I say to you, bravo!
Yoooo as soon as Perfume Genius started playing, I was ASCENDING, let me tell you
OH MY GOD I AM SO PUMPED RIGHT NOW THE MUSIC, THE AESTHETIC, THE CINEMATOGRAPHY, EVERYTHING, YES PLEASE
This trailer was a masterpiece.
It all seemed trite to me --- typical Hollywood, well-worn devices. The plot line sounds similar. I don't get the hype.
Oh my god I read this book about 4 years ago and when I heard they were making a movie I was so excited and this trailer absolutely exceeded my expectations; exactly how I pictured it when I was reading. Plus an amazing cast and Purfume Genius in the trailer?! Wow! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
So emotional right now. This is my favorite book. I didn't think I'd see this.
0:20 Perfect explanation of how it feels to loose a mother. I was lost for over a year as I tried to live with the grief of losing mine.
The cinematography in this movie looks excellent.
This is one of the best trailers I’ve seen for a while. This is perfection. Shows the themes of the film and a very very light hint at what it’s about without spoiling it..
Saw the trailer at the theater. I was stunned how amazing it was. I can’t wait to see the movie.
This trailer gave me chills. After the ad was done, and went back into my video. I had to like sit down, and just pause the video to breath.
I dont understand how they can create a movie based on that book. It must be impossible to reach the same level of perfection.
There are so many details in the book that can be boring.
This is a book where the movie should win Oscars.
Holly crap. I haven't gotten goosebumps all over my body in a long time. I will definitely watch this. Loved the book.
I think I watched this trailer like 84 times and it still doesn’t get old. Amazing movie as well.
The filmography of this movie looks absolutely incredible
Irene C. Abry That’s Roger Deakins for you

perfume genius finally getting recognition
I’m so happy
Cinematography?
10/10
Roger Deakins. Enough said.
*Everything in this movie, was the complexity of human emotion personified.*
I couldn't skip the Ad and that is why I'm here again to rewatch can really relate beautiful movie looking forward to this .
