Game Freak did not develop the Game Boy Camera software; it was handled by Jupiter (same guys who developed the Picross series). The only reason Game Freak even appears on the copyright screen is because of the Pokemon stamps.
Huh! I've seen that fact being mentioned in a lot of places, so if this was a big common misconception that'd be interesting to see. A few quick searches seem to show equal amounts of credits for Game Freak and Jupiter from different sites. If there's a definitive source, I'd love to know!
@@Akfamilyhome The game's credits, for one. None of the staff members that worked on the game or hardware were from Game Freak. Hirokazu Tanaka is currently the president of Creatures, Inc., though at the time he was still employed by Nintendo.
I got a DSi used last year, and I absolutely LOVE the camera and sound software, especially the filters for the camera and the pitch changing for the sound!
the 3ds camera actually kickstarted my interest in stop motion! i used to make stop motion vids of my toys (usually my mlp toys since there were less articulation points to keep track of), and id voice them over live when i showed my parents. my dad always thought they were really cool! i still have a latent interest in making stop motion bc of that, but idk if ill actually pursue it
Love the gag with Miyamoto scoring 1 over Sony for putting SD cards in the DSi. They really screwed over Vita owners with the proprietary memory cards.
On my DS and 3DS the Parakeet filter is called Budgie. I'm from Europe, so I can only assume it's a regional thing, which I did not know about Edit: after posting this comment I found out how to import music from an SD card so I could experience the music player, and it turns out the instrumental filter wasn't renamed at all in my region as well
I got a DSi blue at launch and immediately drove across the United States and back again with it nearly attached to my hand. Taking pictures and recording songs all along the way. They added the ability to post your pictures to Facebook and you could access the Internet on the DSi, an absolute beast for its time, definitely a system I will always love.
Fun fact; I used the 3DS camera for my own film-making while my main """Camera""" was down. It worked well enough for what I was trying. I also extracted a whole skit I made on the audio app that I still have on my PC. Maybe I should make an animatic of it one day...
One of your best videos yet, seriously. Everything just came together to make this one really charming and informative. The Miyamoto-Sony scoreboard was too good lmao
What a good video, super fun to watch!! I'm extremely nostalgic for the DSi and 3DS, so this was really cool to see. Keep up the good work man, it's awesome seeing how your content keeps improving over time!
Absolutely adored this vid. I knew a TON about the camera and sound apps on both systems but I still came out of this learning something. Mainly just bits I wouldn't have thought about learning or doing like the secrets folder in the sound app and why I would use the 3D slider on the 3ds cam (I barely thought about it much)
I used the camera app on the 3ds during quarantine, I was bored. 3:14 Also, I grew up with the Nintendo DSi, so hearing the camera intro jingle super shooted me back to when I wasn't depressed and was instead a happy healthy kid.
Growing up with both a DSi and a 3DS it was very nice to see the music player showcased here since i never figured out how to put music on it :o AND I NEVER REALIZED THE TWO CAMERAS WERE FOR THE 3D EFFECT WHAT. Really awesome vid :D
The DSi actually helped me with a college assignment once. After finishing ahead of everyone else (somehow), I wanted to throw in a little Easter Egg, so I recorded one on the DSi, played it backwards, and taught myself to say it backwards, all Twin Peaks-style. Maybe smartphones have a feature like that, but I've never figured it out.
I have 207 hours on my 3DS camera 💀 that makes it my 4th most played title It's amazing though because I also travelled with it everywhere and it's so nostalgic seeing photos from 2012-present in 3D I even got my start in stop-motion animation with it
One of my favourite things to do with 3DS Sound was to record a sound, increase its pitch and speed, increase it again, and so on until it was barely recognizable, and then decrease it again and again until it was back to normal but weirdly distorted.
I seriously love the paraketts so much there really cute and i think its really cool they mimic what you say as they do that in real life as there a type of parrot
i really appreciate your love for the dsi sound parakeet and NEVER KNEW YOU COULD UNLOCK A BLUE ONE??? i need to put some songs on my 3ds immediately as the owner of a blue budgie myself
I used the 3DS's stop motion feature all the time back in the day! I would make stop motion animations of my Halo megablocks figures and make them do cool fights and stuff. I would even put clay under their feet so they could be posed easier and show muzzle flashes from guns with a small wad of clay on the barrel
I got my Nintendo DSi for my 15th birthday back in 2009. I loved using it as a camera, taking silly photos of myself and family. I also took pictures of what was on the TV, like the ending of The Uninvited (2009), The Tracey Fragments, and logos, to name a few. I have some great New York photos taken on my DSi as well as some in Quebec. Unfortunately, my DSi Camera stopped working in December 2011 and I can't use the camera in the DSi Camera app nor any other game that uses it. I do hope to get another one off eBay that hopefully has a working camera. Now to reminisce about my obsession with Emily Browning...
Ah... these were the best times of my childhood. I would use the 3DS camera all the time to record me and my friends playing with my Woody and Shrek dolls. Today they're hard to watch, but they'll also give me a smile.
Man, I freaking LOVED the DSi camera and sound apps. I still have a lot of audio clips and photos from 2009-2011 saved to my 3DS that I brought over from my DSi. And I had no idea that 3DS Music even HAD streetpass support. probably because you could only enable streetpass on a couple programs at once, so I always had it set to things like Mario Kart for Ghost Data.
A nostalgia train had collided against me. I really missed the Nintendo DSI/3DS Camera and Sound stuff, and I especially missed those parakeets. They really should come back in all it's glory
I've never been a 'listens to songs' person, so I never got to experience this *huge chunk* of 3DS Sound. My first time seeing footage of the cutesy music visualizers contained within this record-10-secs-of-your-voice app was probably a 'what the *heck* 😠?' moment
I still remember using my DSi back in 2020 - early 2023 as my music player before I used "certain sites" just so I can download and play them on my phone, and damn was it great (hell, the DSi's speakers didn't sound too bad playing music).
as someone who only ever had a ps2 as a console that also might have no original games, this video was still very fun to watch (have it since 2010 btw)
I also used the 3DS as my primary music player back in the day. wore out the headphone jack because it spent so much time in my pocket as I listened to music while I did other stuff
21:55: The blue parrakeet is cool, but it's just a little Easter egg and not meant to be a permanent thing. He always says the same thing the green parakeet doesn't repeat what you say in the microphone🎤 while the blue parrakeet is there, and the second you update your streetpass data, he goes away.
small thing: you didn't mention that some of the L and R sfx can trigger a secret 3rd sound if you press both buttons at the same time. awesome video :3
The nostalgia for this shit is super real. I remember as a kid I had a bunch of sound clips of whatever sounds snippet I liked. And then I would take the clips and animate them and flip a clip. Especially some Nightcore. The magic of an SD card lol😅😅😅
I must say, from the short time that I had a DSi XL and my current N3DS(mall), I like both the camera apps. In fact, I'll be going on a trip soon, and I'll be comparing my N3DS to a standard point-and-shoot, to my Galaxy S22 Ultra, just to see what has changed over the years, as I'm sure the point-and-shoot I'll be borrowing will be a 2000's era model.
Ive gotten my DSI in 2010 and I got so much use out of the camera app. I should've used the sound app more, the features that i didn't know about sound pretty fun.
