On a tangent to what Mr. Bhattacharya said about selling shares to buy a house, I remember my grandfather telling me that in the 90s, he and his brother sold a large chunk of their rural land holdings. My grandfather used his share of the money to buy a bungalow in Hyderabad. His brother bought a small apartment in Hyderabad and used the rest to buy shares of Reliance and Asian Paints. His brother later on sold some of the holdings in Reliance to buy the newly listed HDFC at around Rs. 5. Safe to say, his brother's investment in equity in a way paid off his costs to buy the apartment.
A wonderful session full of valuable insights, we all love to listen to Sanjoy Da, had the privilege of working with Sanjay da at HDFC MF. Thank you Edelweiss and Trideep, for organising this session.
Fully enjoyed it. Must admit that I would have with all certainity done the same thing of selling the stocks to buy a house. Nothjng against Housing Loans but this deep rooted notion of being an owner of a house in our country really hampers the middle class in our Country as we buy a house with loan for decades to pay it off. 2nd worst is owning a car. Worst liabilites. Learnt so much today.
Simply awesome 👍 Wish he spoke more often! Would love to read a book authored by him if some day he chooses to do so! Undoubtedly one of the very best in the Indian stock markets!
listening to him makes the investing simple and avoid the mind to get rid of various concepts going in investing community. Basics of investing are not taught in any MBA school

Brilliant. The eagerness with which the man wants to talk about his mistakes shows his humility.
