The guys discuss where a new arena could get built if a new Boston Celtics owner wants a new arena. Thumbnail photo courtesy of Brian Fluharty of USA Today Network.
The TD Garden is just 29 years old. It's completely unnecessary to build a new arena, especially if public funding is used even for infrastructure. The old Boston Garden lasted 67 years.
You're not wrong, but this is coming up because the Celtics pay rent to play there and the assumption is that whoever buys the team will build a basketball arena. It makes sense especially to build it down at SeaPort.
Those billionaire's bring in a lot of money for the city and contribute to the credibility. Why do you think Green Bay, Sacramento, and Jacksonville are relevant cities?
You can’t beat The TD Garden location imo. There’s nothing better going over The Zakim Bridge and seeing the garden on the right. Not to mention North Station and a short walk to The North End for the best food in the city. There couldn’t be a better spot for The Gahdan! Leave it alone, it’s a newer building 🤷🏻♂️
its going to take 10 years for them to pick a location and build it lol, what do you want them to talk about instead? they have 4 hours to fill every day
Seems like they are talking about it on other stations such a WEEI also, and 35 is about 10 years from now so as previous reply says if it were to happen things would get put in motion very soon most likely
Boylston shoutout! Just cool to hear from Felger, back when Kraft was looking to build the new Gillette, they had some serious talks about putting it behind the gas station Dipilato's.
I was thinking the exact same thing. I was at Bayside between 05 and 07 when it was used for Spooky world and they dissolved our contract so they could develop it for who knows what, but nothing ever went in there til 2020 with the new biotech facility they built
Don't know Boston that well so hard to comment but getting rid of a working drydock/shipyard and/or a railyard to build a basketball arena seems kind of short sighted. After all, the food you eat, and the toys you buy etc. have to get from here to there somehow. Sounds like something a politician would do though and make daily living more expensive even for those who don't give a hoot about professional sports.
@@dionreed7325 the land for the Nat gas distribution is being bought by them along with the sand and gravel place. All in all it is close to 100 acres so there is certainly more than enough land. The plan is to have a similar entertainment, bar, restaurant, housing and shopping similar to Suffolk downs and Assembly row. Everett is up and coming. I own 2 rental properties over there. I bought one pre casino(a small single family that I used to live in) and the three family in 2019. Once the develop the water front they are going to skyrocket in value again like they did when the casino went in.
They are going to buy the team and then spend 2-3 billion on a privately financed new arena? The city / state sure isn't going to finance it. If anything the city/state will demand a couple hundred million in giveaways to allow the building to occur under the "air rights"
With the mayor we have now who knows. They’re spending so much damn money. Definitely need a new mayor. I had high hopes for her, but man she spends money on the most ridiculous stuff
Look at what the Clippers are building. The Intuit Dome should be the blueprint. Expand it a bit to facilitate both NBA and NHL. Both the Bruins and Celtics need a world class facility that's more than a blue collar type arena design.
I grew up in Lawrence, lived 10 minutes away from the Oracle in Oakland where the Warriors used to play, and now live in LA. I can tell you that the Clippers built in a terrible area. The Rams have their stadium close by, and the Forum is still used for concerts. LAX is also there and all that traffic will come together. The building looks cool, but the area is congested as is. Once the Clippers start playing there, it will be terrible!
@@caewrld3796the point of building a new stadium isn't that TD is out of date (which it is) it's that the Bruins own the arena... Which means if someone bought the Celtics it's harder to make money because a lot of the money for concessions and tickets go to the Bruins ownership, not the Celtics.

Not one dime of tax payers money should go to building any building for the Celtics. If you can own the Celtics you can afford to build your own building. No

The old Boston Garden lasted 67 years.
The Celtics factor has to do with being able to own their building. The Bruins own the Garden.
Since when has the city of Boston made good decisions with public funding? Not since I've been alive and I'm pushing 40.
Ancient in sports nowadays. These teams and owners have a lot of money if they want to build a new arena.
29 years old is ancient and the Celtics need their own building.

Seaport is a good idea but it needs a rail stop. North station would be hard to top.
Just stay at the garden.. infrastructure is good enough in Boston
