  • In this video of SSRS Tutorial, we will learn
How to create a SSRS Report with Tabs. There is no straight forward way to include tabs in SSRS report. We have to achieve this by using different tricks. Here is what we will learn while creating this report
1.Create Empty report in SSRS in SSRS Project
2.Add Report Header so can display the Report Title on each of the Page
3.Add Rectangle and then place Text Boxes to use them as Tabs, use the Border to show kinda Tab is pressed or released. You can use image for this purpose as well.
4.Add the Page Break on Rectangle, Provide Bookmark value to each Rectangle
5.Set TextBox property to go to Bookmark value

    Hi Kris,
Thanks for detailed feedback. I have taken a look into this and try to find the better title, it is actually Tab report. The Tabs can be created by using different ways such as use images or make your own tabs by using text boxes.
You are right, once you are done with one part. you can copy paste it over. As I have used the different Datasets for each Table, that is why I created one after one and used the fields from that dataSet accordingly.
You are right, don't have to have rectangle, you can use any other Report Item that can have bookmark property.
Glad you like this video. I am also very busy at work now a days and trying to create at least one video. Most of the time the videos are made around mid night and often your brain is tired by then:) You had noticed that I used the fields from wrong dataset couple of times:) Anyways trying our best! Thanks for watching and providing great feedback.

I enjoyed watching this video and I like your approach.
    Question
Your video title said Tabs but you demonstrated like rectangles and buttons
    ?????
I think title would be clicking the image and displaying the data would be file
    Question:
Why not you prepare Rectangle with all the three buttons name it, set BookMark and copy paste.
Similarly create one Table and copy paste and change the columns
Please don't think I am criticizing and consider as suggestions.
Thanks for educating the community and appreciate all your efforts
    Thanks a bunch

This method where you have multiple datasets will error when exporting and importing. I found another way where you only have one DataSet with multiple Tablix's. You just need to hide the rows using 'Row visibility '. Although this method is all good too. Thanks.

It can be improved by putting the text box buttons in the page header and repeat on each page.

Is this method considered the best practice for implementing a tabulated report in SSRS? It seems a bit... janky.

Thanks for this idea. However, when I tried to implement it, I ran into a problem. As I click through the "tabs", each bookmarked page opens in a slightly different position. The header and the rectangle are not always visible because they sometimes appear above the visible part of the page. The user would need to scroll up to see them. This unevenness appears to be caused by the differing sizes of the tablixes I have on each page. Do you have any suggestions for how I could force the pages to always open with the header visible?

Yes, please do. I really need to know how to open a linked report to a new window/tab. Right now, it overwrites the main report so user will have to open the main report again. You're a very great help!

Try this if you haven't found any solution yet. First you have to right click on text box then Text box Properties ->Action-> Go to URL
      Write below javascript code.
Inside javascript function add URL of the drill through Report
      ="javascript:void(window.open('abc.com/Reports/Testing/YourReport.rdl ','_blank'))"

Take one of his tables, make a single report with text boxes. Do all formatting etc, make two more copies of that same report. In the same place he picked bookmark, add link to one of the copies which would be like a subreport, Then add another text box to each report named "Back" and choose the first report. This would look/act like a tabbed report.

very helpful but we all knows datasets, datasources and we don't metter about colors, for your next videos, 26 minutes for 3 placeholders it's a waste of time
