    When I walked the Camino De Compostella, I got lost off trail in Basque country and was too stubborn to ask directions so for 2 days i wndered then found out the Basqos were waiting for me to ask but then introduced themselves and treted me to overnight lodging before driving me back to the pilgrim path. In Taos, NEw Mexico (USA) where I lived, the re was a ritual among the Basque (lots of sheepherders and descendants)men to 'break in' new men coming to live there where you had to arm wrestle several old timer Basques in the middle of a big circles, then everyone toasted with beer and wine until late. Beautiful feeling afterward - i guess you have to be a man to appreciate the ritual ...and it didnt matter if you lost as long as you didnt quit until you were flat out exhausted from wrestling four or five sheepherders ...tough old guys.

In Hegoalde during feudal times the Spanish monarchs had laws they had to promise to keep with the Basque people and within it all basque people were regarded as nobility and it seems really progressive for that point in history.

      @@buscaquenoestoy We have mythology that goes back to ancient times, for example how one of our heroes steals the seeds from the giants and thus begins agriculture. We have a forest lord, "Basajaun", who could be close to Bigfot. As for death there is some analogy with the Egyptian mysteries. We worshipped an earth goddess called Mari. And we certainly had a pre-Christian culture in which the worship of nature and its spirits was distorted by the accusations of witchcraft with which the Catholic church erased throughout the world any culture that was not its own.

    • @OffGridInvestor

      @@juanc.9814 there's still a lot of nature spirit worship in Africa. In Australia the aboriginals here have some real interesting stuff, always with stories of how a bad person was turned into an animal and then the original person converted was put into the sky as a constellation when they died or something like that. Funniest of all is a story involving a platypus I think, who climbed a tree (which there's no way they could), then jumped from the tree branch STRAIGHT onto the moon surface. Like the moon was only a meter or 2 away. The stories ca be weird.

    In Oregon, Idaho, and Nevada Basques are associated with sheep hearding . Mark Kurlansky says they are actually a seafaring people. Northwest historians say they became sheep hearders just because that work was what was available

    • @OffGridInvestor
      @OffGridInvestor ปีที่แล้ว

      It's nothing like that. The people down near the Iberian coast (southern france) were seafarers who even have their own boat design. There's people in the Pyrenees mountains who are farmers and the Basque who are in northern Spain are often sheep herders. That "only work available" is totally BS and those "northwest historians" are ASSUMING it with NO IDEA of Basque history. If you're a foreigner like me you come to realise that most Americans are essentially geologically retarded and absolutely HOPELESS at understanding ANYTHING outside America or not already a part of American culture or with a close American cultural counterpart. The amount of stuff they JUST GUESS is really a damn crime to then claim to be historians with a whole bunch of stuff just MADE UP or assumed because they're too lazy to PROPERLY research it. A brother of a particular french king noticed that most people in Basque country wore berets, and whether the Basque invented the hat or not, he started calling it the Basque beret and everyone who was too scared to disagree went along with it and it became a trend in france. But the Basque sheep farmers all wear them in natural wool colours. They have a whistle made from stone in those areas too. They get a stone from underground because above ground ones dry out too much, and carve it with a knife splitting it in 2 to put the 2 halves inside their mouth. It's an incredibly noisy whistle.

      If you're O negative, I think it's a highly universal blood for transfusions. You should get a DNA test because basque genes really show up well on DNA tests.

    I’m 26% Spain with Indigenous blood coming from Puerto Rico and Portugal. I did notice the 4% Basque and 3% France on there as well in my DNA so now my curiosity has me watching videos on the listed countries from my DNA results. As for the RH Negative blood I remember being given an injection before giving birth to my daughter and then again with my son during the 90’s. I never did understood why it was important to have the injections. I think I tried to ask about the RH Negative blood. I can’t remember what the answer was. Maybe I’ll look that up too what it actually is.

    So many pre European tribes in Europe....they are exotic, strong looking and unmixed or thoroughly pedigreed, if you will..... definitely rustic and provincially inclined...they all seem so cheery and hearty from my impression.Europe, too, is very tribal...just that much of it has been supressed by the continental Europeans.......

    Seemingly there's a link between the Bashkir people of Russia and the Basques. Interesting what the gent said earlier re Armenian link. My grandfather as well as looking typically Basque/Iberian face type, also matched face types in Armenia/Georgia.

    Last half of the video "got" me.
    Emotionally. I mean, I've liked like speaker emotionally. I was sungazer btw. In a way that... sunset was above the island. Some island. What I know about Basques... got me into thinking that they're 85% from Atlantis, which was probably also an island. I've read, a year ago exactly, that don't call themselves Basques, but "those who speak Basque" instead. Like, they're not a nation, but the group of people instead. 🙂 Last 3 lines is mine. 🙂❤️😉

    "Not quite French not at all Spanish"... no, it's not related to these languages at all. So it's not that it's "not quite French." French, English, and Russian all have a relation but none of these are related to Basque. Basque is a language isolate. During my time living in the Basque country in Spain I was told that the 5 vowels of Spanish are due to the influence of Basque (this would have been as it was developing from vulgar Latin). Basque and Spanish both have 5 vowel sounds whereas English has 14+. I can't seem to find a source on this, however. Perhaps another example of how proud the Basque people are. In some small towns, even though you're a foreigner, they don't want to speak Spanish with you (though they all speak it). Just Basque. It's understandable in a way, as Franco suppressed the language and culture severely and they are trying to rebuild. My friend in a larger Basque town is an immigrant from Argentina and her daughter is being taught Basque in elementary schools there.
