    Really like the handle scales of the knife in the vid. Big knives that can be used for carving and fine work are outstanding.

    This company as a whole makes some great knives and the smaller blades have vertical or horizontal capable leather sheaths which have rare earth magnets in them for scout style retention. The 'forest' model is a real good competitior in the camp knife category :)

      Only bad thing are the handles, they're way too smooth, no grip at all - especially when wet. But overall I still like them.

    • @julesthurongi1223
      @julesthurongi1223 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +PerceptionVsReality
      They're smooth without being slick.
      And that's done so that if you're cutting, carving or skinning for long periods of time, you don't develop hot-spots or blisters. People say the same thing about Ethan Becker's knives, and they're dead wrong.

    I've heard nothing but very good things about that blade from folks whose opinion I hold in high regard. It looks like a real winner. (Though an expensive one!)

    The Bark River Bravo 2 I have is in A2 and is a fantastic blade. The Denali I'd think would be good too. Michigan does a good job and hard to beat a convex grind.

  • @mistersmith3986
    @mistersmith3986 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    That is a great Wilderness Knife. My favorite grind is convex, period. I can tell you from my own experience with A2 knives is, A2 blows 1095 out the water. Thanks for a great review!

    $240.00 Denali price, pinned scales, leather sheath, slipping during use for chopping scared me away. For $230.00 combined total I bought the Esee Junglas and Esee Izula II with a bullet proof no questions asked lifetime warranty. YMMV

    Thats a cool knife. The size and intended application reminds me a little bit of the sami knives of northern Scandinavia. Something like the Strømeng KS9 would be in the same ballpark. Thanks for the review :)

    Very nice knife. A little pricey for me but for someone who needs or wants a do-all knife, looks like a good choice.

    Nice and cool blade. Not $264USD cool tho.

    It's almost tempting to buy this knife, but I rarely get out doors anymore and not sure if need equals price. I love knives and do buy the cheaper ones for that if I ever do have another camping trip in my lifetime, but their all cheap knives. Thx for another great video. Wish I had the extra cash to buy this one for my dad, he an off the grid man living in at the top of a mountain in Malibu CA. He clears his brush sometimes as stuff grows to prehistoric like volumes and just takes over. Thx again.

    I just picked up this very blade. Great review. Now that I have it in hand I have to say I love the everything about the blade. The handle is okay but it would have been better if it was a little thicker and had a little more meat on the pommel end. I can't wait to get it in the woods.

    I picked one of these up on what was basically clearance on a special deal from Kniveshipfree. Got one in red Ctek for about $160ish if I remember correctly. Add to that I had money from their rewards program and I spent around $100 for it. I absolutely love it and I feel like I stole it lol.

    Thank you for calling out the circular cutouts on the back, I was feeling ignorant thinking they were for some Bark River dangler or baldric rig, I knew nothing about. I discovered scratches on my blade that run parallel to the spine from the tip to where the magnet is anchored in the sheath. My best guess is that there is a metal shaving trapped by the magnet and now embedded in the leather scratching the blade. I will do worse to it over the years so no bother for me, but for those who want a safe queen may want to keep it out of the sheath, just in case.

    Ever thought about carrying a hatchet along. ?? I always have a folding knife and a Leatherman wave on me. If I am going to be away from the truck, then I will have my Tom Brown tracker too. I don't know if I have yet had anything I wasn't able to get done with them.

    Intriguing knife, and an ambidextrous sheath! Does the knife dig into your side when you carry it? Would you consider this to be a good option for a survival knife when you use the lanyard?

    • @gideonstactical
      @gideonstactical  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could totally be a good survival knife. I know you would like the sheath, and no it rides low so it wont dig into your ribs.

    For those of you who don't want their Credit Card everywhere, these are also sold on Amazon under the "American Organic" label. There's no proper company page, so the knives are mixed-in with other products.

    • @BL-yj2wp
      @BL-yj2wp 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, Terävä is Varustelekas house brand, they are made in Finland and really cheap for the quality. 80CrV2 is a slightly upgraded version of 1080, its very tough but also keeps a nice edge for a reasonable time and can be sharpened on a rock.
      I really like my Skrama.
      It is also available in a stainless version, but I cant really tell you anything about it.

    My hand would be a lot more comfortable using it for longer periods if the Micarta was a 1/4 inch longer on each end, I'd be ok with it if the knife got 1/4 longer to keep some steel between the micarta and the edge.

    Great knife, but you lost me at $240!😞
    What knife do you think will perform comparably, and that is a similar size and design for under $100, preferably $50 to $75?
    Thanks as always.

    • @sonfoku73
      @sonfoku73 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      look up terava skrama i have 1 and it carves like a mora, moves and feels like a mavhete, but chops like a big knife. theres no other knives that perform like the denali, trust me ive collected almost ever large knife out there

    • @sonfoku73
      @sonfoku73 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Keep Out in yhe pricr range youre looking for at least. the terava is the closest in the 50 to 75. other than that the bk9 is a contender.

    Examples of what type of knife system I can use this with? I usually go camping with the Esee Junglas and 6 or the BK9 and the BK16. And what are your thoughts guys? This might be a little better than my modded out BK9, not sure about the Junglas though. Anyways, I would love to hear some discussion.

    I'm looking for a 1 tool solution for bushcraft/camping. This knife seems like it would fit that use well. Do you have any recommendations for other knives in a 200ish dollar price range

    • @JGstunts22
      @JGstunts22 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thatscorpionguy Herping/invert keeping there is no 1 tool solution. go with a trio . large knife for chopping , batoning , med knife for most other tasks and a pocket knife for delicate stuff and food prep.
