I really think you ought to give Piofiore or Collar x Malice a try sometime; even without being the target demographic, a good story is a good story regardless of who it's aimed at

Which one would you recommend the most for a straight dude wanting to give them a shot?

Bustafellows is actually my top pick for folks wanting to get into otome and visual novels in general! It's got a slick, modern presentation and the plot plays out like a TV procedural drama so the format is familiar and easy to digest! It's more focused on plot than romance and having a voiced main character helps a ton with staying immersed. The writing isn't perfect, which just means it has room to grow, but if you're looking for something with a tighter narrative, I'd also recommend Collar x Malice as a good entrypoint! Just pick whichever premise appeals to you most and I hope you have fun!!

The only one on the list I don't have yet is the one you mentioned at the very end (even if...tempest), and already got a couple of the others preordered. I think I've got a VN addiction problem, lol

I just got Variable Barricade and from what little I’ve played so far it seems very good. Otome games usually have very weak female protagonists so it is fun to be a bit of a tsundere towards the guys. I also got the limited edition of Birushana. Cost me way too much to import from the UK since they left EU and I had to pay import taxes and import duties but it is a very nice box and my first big box limited edition game probably since Bioshock 2. Play Asia limited editions such as Sea Bed are much smaller. In another note my order from November 2021 finally shipped from play Asia! Been waiting a long time for Love Kami to be ready for them to ship the rest of the games such as Love Esquire and Smashing the battle. All 3 games being the Limited edition versions.

I think it is telling that most of the titles here are Otome titles primarily published in English by one company who does not have a history in porting their VNs to PC at all. If you are an otome fan, you almost have to have a Switch. IFI published Amnesia and Hakuoki years ago on PC, but have yet to publish their recent otome to PC. Aksys has tons of otome on Switch and with Norn9 coming to Switch with a revised translation, there are only two Aksys published otome exclusive to Vita because they never got Switch ports in Japan being Period Cube and Bad Apple Wars. I hope a company that specializes in PC ports sees the potential there and tries to convince Aksys to let them port their otome to PC. Or for IFI to see the potential and port the ones they published to PC and maybe try to port the Aksys ones to PC as well. Idea Factory seems to have no issues with their regular JRPGs getting ported to PC all the time by IFI or other companies. And I doubt they would mind with the otomate titles coming to PC after IFI did Hakuoki and Amnesia years ago and Intragames ported the two Psychedelica games and 7'Scarlet to PC in 2018-2019 and were even able to include their English localizations despite being a Korean company who previously published those games in Korea on Vita which is likely why they had the license to do the ports. A shame the other otomate games weren't so lucky.

Also 13 sentinels Aegis Rim. It should have been released on PC but considering its developed by Vanillaware and Atlus, it won't.

Not surprised at all that the mayority where Otome's. Probably the only place where these sell decently if at all (based on how many are exclusive to the Switch and seem to be high profile)

I have tried to stop buying VNs for the time being. I have Witch on the Holy Night preordered already, plus a few more in transit. But between Clannad, Grisaia Trilogy, and Little Busters.... I'm all set. LOL But this video tempts me to buy a couple more!

Not really surprising otome makes up the bulk of this list (and even more so in Japan). That's where the market for those games are outside of mobiles.

I'm seeing a trend. Mostly otomes don't seem to make it to pc.

As far as the big budget Otomate titles go, no, but there's a thriving indie scene on Steam and Itch that's been booming lately! Would highly recommend giving it a look.
