  • I LOVE the fabricated 9" axle housing with a well built center section. It is a great combination of lightweight and incredible strength, plus if they are good enough for Ultra 4 cars, it will be good enough for a 1953 Willys Wagon.

    Nice build!
    I am in the process of building a 9" rear for my 2000 TJ. I've got the same 3rd member setup except I went with 5.13 gears. I'm using the Artec top and backbone trusses to strengthen it.
    The front is going to be a D44 high pinion from a 78 F150 (retubed to get rid of the c wedges). Hoping to be able to afford an OX cable locker for that one... $$$
    It's all just time and money...

    Great content. Would love to see you move away from a TV style show and embrace the youtube platform that allows for longer and much more in depth videos. Of course longer videos means more filming and editing but I know I would love to watch 30 minute videos on each step of the build over the 10 minute ones. I dont plan to stop watching regardless.

    Great content, do you have multiple size alignment bars for different spindle sizes? And where did you get them from?

    • @BigTireGarage
      @BigTireGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No the bar stays the same....1.5" ground and polished solid bar. I have different size spindle nuts for different spindles. As well as pucks for unit bearings. I either buy them or I have them made for specific applications.

  • @chapp2009

    Do you have a video on the full specs on the front axle? How is it a high pinion and the rear is low if thier both a ford 9 inch setup which is low pinion I thought

    • @BigTireGarage

      the front 3rd member is from a company called True Hi9 they make a high pinion 9"

    I thought 14 bolt was your favorite? I see the front carrier is bolted in with the pinion up high, i wish you would have shown the oiling modification needed to run it upside down. Good episode though, been watching you build cool stuff forever.

    • @BigTireGarage
      @BigTireGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It isn't upside down in the front, it is a High Pinion third member from True HI9

  • @jonleonard8761
    @jonleonard8761 ปีที่แล้ว

    In a discussion w a buddy getting ready to shorten a 9”, why tig root? The backing plate caps that came in look like one good hot pass w the mig would do. But this video is his arguing point for why I should tig then mig…
    What am I missing bröther?

    • @BigTireGarage
      @BigTireGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The thickness of the material you are welding determines the need for mutiple passes...the TIG root allows you full control over the molten puddle and "set" the pieces prior to the MIG cover. You also can move around the material with the TIG essentially welding in a criss cross pattern to prevent the knuckle or bearing plate from "pulling" If you just "crank up" the mig for one crazy hot pass...yes it will work..but there is a greater chance that the end cap pr knuckle will not be straight
