FAKE! 100,000mAh solar powerbank capacity test and opening.

  • While it would be really nice if this was a real 100000mAh (100Ah) power bank, it would be defying current battery technology quite dramatically. This is probably good, because a cheapo 100Ah power bank failing would be very "exciting".
    The odd thing is that beyond the very fake rating the unit is quite nicely made and seems to work well.

    • @thatrudager
      @thatrudager 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Between the 2 jump packs that I got they had 3 packs just under 3000mAh. But the direct connection from the packs to the booster socket is somewhat beefy. I've jumped dead cars all the way up to a 5 liter ford V-8 in -5C.
      They were stated as being 60,000mAh+ and something like 600A boost. They boost cars so no complaints.
      Something of note was the voltage difference on the fully charged packs. One was 12.5v and one was 16v. The 16v is what I use to boost cars.

    • @jusb1066

      these would be a very inefficient solar panel for that, probably need to fill a football field for it, but around 500 would give you 10kw of power backup, enough to get you through a day or 2 so long as solar is giving you some power during the day , if you had 3kw of solar you can scrape through if you have that kind of storage, but those panels are much worse than proper solar panels.

    I bought a very similar one of these almost 10 years ago, it was cheap like dirt. One of the ports gave up soon after I bought it, but the thing still works. It charges my gopro batteries when I'm out and about and when I camp overnite at shows the led stops me from pissing on my feet in the dark. It does take 4 whole bright Summer days to recharge though. I do have better power banks that I charge in the car, but if your hiking or cycling for days on end then, a solar powered bank does have a use. But buy the best you can afford, not the cheapest out there. And always consult Uncle Clive first 👍

      There are 2x 2600mAh cells. It isn't "really bad" at all, for their size it's actually standard pretty much. From the video each cell looks around 8cm x 6.5cm x 0.5cm. For such a size 2600mAh is about standard. You shouldn't compare to the newest mobile phone batteries either, as a new 2600mAh mobile phone lithium battery will be around 25% smaller than these and still have the same capacity. But for regular lithium packs not used in phones then it's pretty comparable and standard.

    I still think powerbanks based around 18650 cells are the best option though, I've always found those based on flat lipo cells don't last very long. You've got it backwards, Hinata. Think about it ;) If I were to build a Powerbank using a Car Battery at 12 V 100 AH (1200 WH ), it would convert to 327 AH at 3,7 V (1200 WH ).

    • @PsychoPatsch
      @PsychoPatsch 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But that's what it is, isn't it? There is a battery pack at 3,7 V and a transformer behind it. That ups the voltage to 5 V. If we change that to 0,2 V output, the 5200 mAH would increase to about 96 AH. Unless I'm getting something totally wrong, that is. Same thing when you put two cells in series, the voltage doubles and the amp hours stay the same, while putting them in parallel doubles the amp hours while the voltage stays the same. But both options put out the same amount of watt hours.

    • @jo2lovid
      @jo2lovid 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can't "transform" DC current. To lift 3.7volt to 5volt you need an inverter. The inverter specs would then set the current output limits to the USB socket.
      Lowering the output voltage of the inverter would not increase the output current since the limiting factor would be the capabilities of the switching components such as the mosfet or diode devices.

    • @PsychoPatsch
      @PsychoPatsch 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry about using the wrong word. Its "Wandler" in German. I just googled it, the right word is "converter". That's what I meant.
      Also, I'm not talking about current (A ), I'm talking about capacity (AH ). So even if the converter limits the output to, let's say 1 A, the battery still delivers 96 AH at 0,2 V. It would just take 96 hours to discharge. 3,7 V 54 mA goes in the converter, 0,2 V 1 A comes out of the converter. For 96 hours, that is 5,2 AH in and 96 AH out. Thus original point proven.

    • @jo2lovid
      @jo2lovid 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HinataSoul That's a moot point. The inverter in this device will be a boost inverter. The aim is to increase the voltage from the battery level to 5 volts. A buck inverter will not be part of the circuit, so there is no way this device would go down to any value below the voltage of the battery.

      You might be right but that is the minimum before load, this PSU started off at BELOW the minimum, (Not Good)
      So my question remains, the 4.5V is a tad low is it not.
      While I'm at it, the PSU started at 4.5V, you say the minimum is 4.75V so why did you bother to question my comment when the PSU was already under the limit??????

    • @AureliusR
      @AureliusR 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, definitely low. However, most devices that charge through a USB cable will accept a pretty large voltage drop. Many cheap cables are made with wet string inside, so the voltage drop across the cable can be at least a volt, especially at an amp or two.

      Most of my phones and tablets seem to aim for a minimum voltage of 4.80v then they stop increasing their current draw. So at 4.50v I doubt many devices will charge, maybe they will just draw 500ma?

    • @wtfiswiththosehandles

      I just say, you falsely advertised. Please provide a shipping label for me to ship this back to you and I will file a complaint against you on ebay.
      They 100% of the time will fight for a message or two, then issue a full refund. The only way to stop these kind of deceptive practice is to report everything and always demand your right and protection as an ebay buyer.

    I have this exact charging bank that I bought 5 yrs ago. 2015. Its ratings are exacturated. I can say this for sure . #1) This unit is very reliable. #2) it charges pretty good off of solar cell. With a full charge it will charge your phone up 100% however , ONLY ONCE THEN NEEDS CHARGING AGAIN.

  • @Baerchenization
    @Baerchenization 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I don't share your favourable view - you can get a brand name power bank e.g. Anker for 12 Pounds on Amazon and you don't have to wonder whether the damn thing is gonna burn your house down... and that solar cell is probably completely useless, i.e. it's gonna take forever to charge. You gotta be crazy if you go for this Chinese crap where you can have a brand name item for the same money with good cells.

    • @rikslot
      @rikslot 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Baerchenization I was about to say something like this. Not only are the branded ones safer, they also are smaller and built better and support quickcharge. You could still buy chinese stuff to save a few pennies though. Just buy Aukey, Xiaomi or BlitzWolf from a reputable seller. I think Aukey is actually sold through amazon in the west and it isn't even much more expensive than straight from China.

    • @qazwsxedcrfv4183

      Baerchenization Anker is Chinese.

    • @Baerchenization
      @Baerchenization 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it very difficult for you to distinguish between Chinese crap, which is some random, non-descript company selling utter crap for the sake of it and something being manufactured in China, but to a standard? Must be so, or how else are we to understand your comment? Btw "Anker was founded in 2009, the brainchild of a group of friends working at Google." Does not look Chinese to me, but even if it is, you still completely missed the point.

    • @stinkycheese804
      @stinkycheese804 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Baerchenization - The point is you can't trust any of them if they don't specify what make and model of cells they use, and specify output current capacity too so you can verify their claims. This USB power bank industry is one of the few where they can deceitfully tell you the internal battery capacity instead of the output capacity like any other power supply industry has rated for decades.

    • @chaos.corner
      @chaos.corner 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Baerchenization, I have a power bank with the solar cell and it works pretty well at keeping the batteries topped up since I don't use it that often. The only problem is that keeping these batteries at 100% is actually pretty bad for them and they ended up swelling up. I was going to replace the batteries but I couldn't find any for less than the cost of a new unit.

    US sellers also misrepresent. Got a 20,000 mah solar power bank from a "deal of the day" vendor for about $15. The included manual listed it as 5,000 mah. My testing got 1450 mah so I complained and got a refund. They didn't offer return postage so it's in a sunny window for whatever future use I might make of it.

    I remember buying one of these that claimed a tenth of the one on video and didn’t charge at all from the photovoltaic panels, turns out that there were several problems, not only the ribbon that was supposed to connect to the battery from the panel was not connected, the panel itself was not pressed properly and wasn’t contacting properly the halves of it. Then there were the little LED that supposedly showed how much “light” was hitting the panel. Those were not connected either lol.
    After opening it up and noticing the ribbon and the metering LEDs I gave it to a friend to test the capacity of the batteries themselves and both of us were surprised that it was also a pair that amounted to close to 5kmAh. When properly assembled we put it to charge, first trying the solar end (which was when we noticed that the panels were not pressed properly) then from an outlet. It got really hot from just using a 1A cheap charger brick from another battery, then when on discharge from just connecting to a handheld light (that the light circuit is dead, we basically just use it to charge the batteries for another device) it also got uncomfortably hot, no something to leave either recharging itself or charging up another device unattended.

    I bought the same falsely advertised product, although I wasn't concerned about the stats on the unit. I simply wanted something to charge my phone and tablet while backpacking and camping. It works and charges on solar and cable. I haven't had any problems with it and have taken it camping twice. It was under $20 so I can't complain. The English instructions were very poorly translated which is why I'm watching videos on the product.
