I’m super intrigued by the GX platform. We just bought a ‘23 gx and it drives amazing. I’m tempted to do a light overland build on it next year.
yeah, it's been a thing before you ever even thought about driving anything other than luxury car...and there's a possibility the $15k you'd NEED to look cool was spent on buying new vs used...
Tough to mess with the on road refinement, I think ko2 and rock skiers is nice minimum

Can confirm! This rig is INCREDIBLE! The ride is fantastic, the utility is phenomenal, and it looks the absolute business. I adore this thing so much. Been shopping used GXs ever since we got back from DO. Great video!

@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD I did, actually. Hansen, from Shifting Lanes, and I got to drive it quite a bit, first around the off-road course and then on the highway a few hours to Destination Outdoor. It was unstoppable on the course and quite comfortable on the highway. If it wasn't everyone's favorite vehicle of the lineup, it was in the top two. I absolutely LOVED it.

Waiting for a new 2024 double turbo hybrid to make this outfit to it. This GX looks better than LX. Front bumper looks really good compared to LX. Lexus need to start doing this upgrade by themselves with their genuine parts, make an off-road trim and charge an extra 5k-10k so people wouldn't be needed going here and there for this upgrade

Thanks for the video! Hey are the skids aluminum in this build? We just got a GX460 and we wanted to build it into an overlanding rig. I was considering aluminum for the skids since the rock sliders and the front bumper would be steel. We are considering using it to tow a light RV or a ppup camper too. I was worried about the aluminum not giving enough protection though. Any thoughts on that?

@@TRDJon I like old tech, but if I'd trust anything to last as long as my 470 or 1st gen tundra, it would be this one. I actually just bought what i believe to be the cleanest '04 crew cab tundra 4x4 in the country. 49k, garage kept, all papers, etc. It looks, runs, and smells like new.

The tires are 32”. Did you feel that the 32” tires looked too small with the lift? I’m wondering why they didn’t use 33’s?

This outlander needs metal steel bumper on the corner. When you do-not want parking scuff on the bumper.

Great video and very nice truck. I wonder why people compare this to the 4Runner, when it is way closer to the Land cruiser, because it is a land cruiser 120 (Prado). But the comparison to a 4Runner seems to be easier.
4Runner chassis
Actually, the 4Runner happens to be on the Prado chassis. The GX and Prado are extremely similar and share most of the same underpinnings, with the 4Runner being the little brother but on the same frame.

Every angle looks great… other than that monstrosity of a front grill, these Lexus modes really are a turn-off for that front look and how fragile it will be on the front end.
Only the new BMW grills are uglier than the Lexus ones.

@@TRDJon I would start with the 4.6L V8 and full time 4wd and end there, unless you wanted to get into the weeds on other differing details. 4runners are amazing, but they aren't essentially GX's and that's not a knock on 4runners.
@@TRDJon GX is FAR superior in terms of cabin noise interior materials and engine refinement. It has 2” more headroom, handles and rides significantly better. The doors feel significantly more solid. There are very significant differences.
@@TRDJon one cost 60-70K new, the other mid 40s new. i have a gx, my wife has a 4runner. this is not a V8 4runner.

I got to ride in a GX and my initial impression was how snug I felt in the front seat. Being 6’8” and nearly 300 lbs… it was a slight tight fit but if I were to uograde to that from our 4Runner, I would likely just bring the 4Runner mostly back to stock and transfer some mods to the GX lol
How do you fit in a 4Runner of a GX is tight?
The GX has at least 2” more headroom.

The only bad thing on this car are the OEM suspensions, they are so unreliable, I would've chose the bilstien B8 instead.

Front grill is terrible. Otherwise fantastic.

I hear these are great vehicles but the mpg on these is a killer.

Premium gas requirement in 2022 at 13 mpg. Tell your friend s you hate the environment and money without telling them😂
15/19/16 mpg. Not as bad as flying private though right?

And yet there are multiple million mile (yes, that’s a million miles) Toyotas with the 4.6 V8 and 6 speed auto…. One engine, one transmission….a million miles.
Meanwhile we have all these environmentally friendly electric vehicles that can become a brick at the 10 year mark and can’t be recycled. That’s not even considering the fact that an electric vehicle has 6 times the mined weight vs a comparable ICE vehicle.
In summary: reliability and longevity is good for the environment, it doesn’t end at the mpg number (even though a higher mpg is always appreciated).
This car is rad but no way I'm paying that much for less than TRDPro-looking interior. I'm kind of shocked it looks that plain
I think you need to sit in it to really feel it. It is alot more premium than a TRD Pro
