I had a really similar experience to Matt going back to school in my late twenties attending the University of California. Too many stories to list, but here's a couple that come to mind. Once I participated in a class and the instructor remarked that "too many white males are speaking up in class, I need the people of color to participate more." I never attempted to participate in that class again after being racially discriminated against. In another class about medieval poet Geoffrey Chaucer, my instructor was completely batshit and tried to connect medieval literature with white supremacy. She would nitpick any mentions of white skin in the texts and lecture about how it was racist. In her mind, it was racist to even refer to white skin. Academia in the liberal arts is a complete shitshow and center for neomarxist propaganda, everything JP warned about is true. In a strange way, I enjoyed observing this stuff because it confirmed to me how toxic the liberal arts are as a brainwashing tool. If you're studying literature at the University of California, you're only allowed to perceive the text through this critical race theory deconstructionist lense and the curriculum is a complete joke. If you take note of what the professor says and repeat their ideas back to them on papers you will get straight A's. I am a centrist but never dared to express any right-leaning views because I knew it would put my grade and my degree at risk.
