Hi, your video a good thanks for taking the time to make them... but there is just one update you should amend... you don't need the same size of drive for the Parity, you can put any size as long it is the bigger in the array. and you can put any size of drive in the array... mixing all your drive... but again the bigger drive you have as to be the parity, and the second parity does not need to be the same size to, but again keep in mind that you have to be the same size or bigger that the second bigger drive in you array. the thing is you can change your parity drive if you want to go with bigger drive at a later time, but the parity has to be the first to be updated before adding bigger drive.

Thank you for the feedback Andre, really appreciate it. You are definitely correct and I should have mentioned that. Thanks for taking the time to let me know

Great explanation. Well done! Is Unraid open source? I've looked into it in the past, but felt like it was closed source.

Thank you mate appreciate the feedback. Unfortunately, unRAID is closed source I believe. It provides a lot of flexibility, though, and provided a platform to get all my open source Docker containers running.
FreeNAS is closest competitor I've found which is free and open source but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. Could be good idea for a video from you or I?

@@IBRACORP Absolutely. I just need to find a machine I want to wipe out to install (TrueNAS I think it's called now) FreeNAS. Would love to see more content from you though.

Loved your explanation on this, I'm totally new to inraid so please excuse the newbie questions.
Can I just plug the USB with unraid on my mini pc (beelink s12 pro) and run it from that ? I keep it on 24/7 as at the moment it's on windows 11 running my plex server.
Also I have a synology nas can I use that still as my driver storage and link it to unraid ?

Hi Tom, thanks for watching. It's not just you, I'm still learning my way with the mix volumes and such. Apologies for the low volume, I hope to improve this

TrueNAS is much better than unraid in my opinion and it’s free, ofc you’re free to choose whatever you want to use, this is just my opinion

Hey there, thanks for the comment and for watching. Appreciate taking the time to give your thoughts. I actually have TrueNAS on my list to check out and make some videos about. Anything you like to share to a beginner?

TrueNAS for me was not better than UnRAID for what I wanted to do. They are both good at what they do.

@@carl_thunder thanks for the comment. They seem to cater to different needs, I'll need to do some more digging it seems
