..woa - that end segment nearly knocked me off my stool...!! Now I can't decide whether to get another acoustic or an electric - is it easier to transition to electric?? - I've just been listening to this track and am grateful for the lesson David, how do you effectively 'mute' those top two strings? Can't wait to nail this! - Happy New Year (2022) looking forward to future lessons. . :)
Hi TJ and Happy Holidays! And thank u so much for checking out this video and for your kind words - really appreciated! Yes, making the transition for acoustic to electric is a little easier than the other way as with electric its easier to play as the strings are thinner, the action is usually lower, and its easier to get your arm around. But enjoy both for sure! Mute the top strings by letting the palm of your pick hand rest on the lower strings right around the bridge area. @@EpicGuitarInstruction it's by Steve Earl. I believe the main riff is a ukulele. I mostly listen to classic rock, metal and hard rock, but this is a great tune.
Another amazing job on this one, David! What is the correct process for requesting songs? Is there a patrion page or something like that we can do to support all this great value you're providing? You have a gift for transposing/arranging songs for 1 acoustic guitar which is exactly what many of us need! Especially piano songs! Is there any chance you could do your magic with Jefferson Starship's "Count On Me"? Also would love to learn the Foo Fighters' "Walk". How can I contribute/support to request these? Thanks so much and keep up the great work!
Hi again Chris and thank u for your continued support and kind words - means the world to me. And thank u for your kindness and wanting to donate - that would be awesome - the easiest way is to send a donation to us via Paypal - our Paypal address is same as our email which is TheNextLevelGuitar@yahoo.com - you can click on the send money to friends and family link and just include a note stating donation. And thank you again. As far as requesting songs most either email in their requests or post them in a TH-cam comment. I try and plan lessons around the most requested songs first. I am not familiar with that Jefferson Starship tune you mentioned as we have not received any requests for that one, but I will check it out. Often times I get requests for more obscure tunes and I have to balance that with what we feel will be a good lesson for students as well as what will go over well. Just to mention a little about the process - as you can imagine it takes a long time to produce these lessons as I do a lot of research for each song and try to transpose the song as accurately as possible. I think the accuracy and playability is so critical for students and players watching. I try to put myself in the viewers/students shoes. So I do a lot of work before I even roll tape. Then when I have a good lesson plan designed out I do all the filming - and then I do all the editing - and the editing takes a lot of labor as I want to try and bring the best lessons possible and adding the strum patterns and all the text and chord lines and song sections for all the progressions, chords, and play alongs takes a good while to edit and produce. So again its all a balance of weighing the benefit vs the labor and concentrate on producing the best possible, highest quality lessons. My apologies if I went on too long. I am just passionate about it. Hope this helps explain the process. Feel free to send in any other requests. Thanks again and take care and have a rocking day! -David Taub, Next Level Guitar Inc. & EGI

I'm still skeptical that this song wasn't played - in studio - in DADGAD tuning. I cannot play it in any other tuning and have it sound like the record. Either way it has to be an OPEN tuning, not standard. It seems obvious from first listening BUT I am admittedly not an expert. That's just my take and I wonder if anyone else has mentioned the same. Great lesson though. Love your stuff.

Hi and thank you for checking out this lesson. I use several techniques to mute out strings to kill string noise and strings from ringing. I have a lesson on my other TH-cam channel at Rock On Good People teaching my muting techniques - check that out here - th-cam.com/video/mqRKSWiquyo/w-d-xo.html - let me know if you have any questions once u checked out the lesson. With chords at times I also mute by letting my first finger spill over the a string to touch and mute the low E string on certain chords when I dont want that low E ringing. ALl very subtle moves. Hi Kirk and thank u so much for watching this video - so appreciated. What I mean by that bottom falling out of the guitar is that when playing many of these songs on solo acoustic guitar you want the guitar to sound as big and full as possible. There is no bass player or drums or keyboard or other guitar player to fill up the sound - its just one solo acoustic guitar - so u want the guitar big lush and full. So often I try and play the fullest sounds and emphasize the open chords and steer away from single notes or chords with just a few strings as then all the sudden the bottom or low end falls out of the guitar and your sound shrinks - so I try and keep it full - hope that makes sense. Hi Mike and thank u so much for watching this lesson - really appreciated. The trick to muting out that high e and B strings when playing those 4 chordsfor the main rhythm is to let that first finger fall across all six strings. You are just playing that one note with that first finger, but let it rest of all six strings so it will mute out the others. You may have to angle that finger like I do in the video, but it can cover over all the other strings to mute them out - give that at try. Enjoy and stay tuned - lots more killer content and lessons coming soon. Keep up all that hard work on that guitar. Take care, and rock on! -David Taub, Next Level Guitar Inc. & EGI
Actually you want the B and E strings to ring out as well. The high strings ARE part of the chord.... Only mute the second A string.... Let the other five ring out. And just like he demonstrates in this video throughout, be sure to squeak the strings as much as possible! Lmao. Pre-chorus is also wrong. Many wrong instructions here. Not sure what your source for this was but guessing is never accurate instruction. Also it's very easy on the first part to only use two fingers on the E and G strings without a third, sounds smoother with 2. This post is already too long so I didn't mention every mistake here but there is a video online of the singer playing this in Morocco from music in high places years ago..... They are downturned a half step on that performance which is different than the album version which is standard tuning but the camera work is great so you can basically see everything he's playing from that one video. Easy way to learn it by watching the guy play it himself.

..woa - that end segment nearly knocked me off my stool...!!

Hi Chris, so glad that u liked this lesson and thanks so much for checking out this video and for ur kind words - most appreciated. Going to sink my teeth into this tomorrow.
Help! As you can hear in the intro before the violin type sound comes in, you can hear a bass do 4 notes high to low. Anyone know how to do this??
How are you muting the high E and B string?
Hi and thank you for checking out this lesson. I use several techniques to mute out strings to kill string noise and strings from ringing. I have a lesson on my other TH-cam channel at Rock On Good People teaching my muting techniques - check that out here - th-cam.com/video/mqRKSWiquyo/w-d-xo.html - let me know if you have any questions once u checked out the lesson. With chords at times I also mute by letting my first finger spill over the a string to touch and mute the low E string on certain chords when I dont want that low E ringing. ALl very subtle moves. What does bottom fall out mean
Let me know if you have any follow up questions on that. Enjoy and stay tuned - lots more lessons and content coming soon. I’m not following on how I get the B and E muted. I seem to not mute them and while strumming, they ring through
Hi Mike and thank u so much for watching this lesson - really appreciated.

Duuuude
