Suspect shoots and wounds artist after altercation at rally for New Mexico statue

Authorities in New Mexico are investigating a shooting captured on video that left one person shot during a rally for a Don Juan de Oñate statue on Thursday.
The video posted on Instagram shows a scuffle after a group of men approach the suspect who was wearing a "MAGA" hat and later jumps a small retaining wall to escape before pulling out a gun, CNN says.
It’s unclear what led to the altercation that ended in the shooting, according to CNN.
During a press conference Thursday, Rio Arriba County Sheriff Billy Merrifield said the suspect was taken into custody. He's been identified as 23-year-old Ryan Martinez of New Mexico.
The shooting victim is reportedly receiving medical care but right now, their condition is unknown, CNN says.
The statue was taken down in 2020. a rededication was scheduled to take place Thursday.

Crazy how many people just happen to lose all vision during the first 5 seconds of the clip where he clearly JUMPS THE WALL AND SPRINTS AT SOMEONE. The people saying “they shouldn’t be grabbing him” he’s literally trying to put his hands on someone else and the other people only grab him to stop him your goofy if you think this guys in the right in any way.
