I love my 3s. These are my go to running running shoes along with the torin 6 for long distance. Altra did have move lower stack height shoes in the early years. The Kayeta was a model that I have that is around 15mm stack height but the company did change its focus for more cushion.
Have used Altra Escalante for years, for running and work as hairdresser, helped me treat/cure Morton's Neuroma. They're my main shoe. Don't want to be without them. But absolutely agree with your suggestions for an alternate model Escalante.
They are way too squishy, for me, underfoot. I don't really care about the stack height, but I want zero rebound from a mid/insole. Their Solstice has a much firmer midsole but even that is at least 10x squishier than I prefer, lol. Thanks for the video, as always, hope you have a good holiday season.
They have an Escalante Racer with a 22mm stack height. Also they have an Escalante SW (smartwool aka merino wool) for the colder weather. The Escalante line seem like good transition shoes into the barefoot world.
They use to have a model called vanish-r 14mm and 4.5oz. I’ve called and even pleaded but not coming back Now there is a company called. I think Carson footwear they they’re still in business. They used to have that like 12 to 14 actually I think from 10 to like 14 mm shoes so they weren’t like barefoot but they felt decent on the you or anybody wants to check them out I’ve never wore them so I don’t know anything about them.
I was thinking you guys should probably reach out to topo and see if they’ll send you to sign and you can review it. The ST5 I think was classified as your speed trainer is 15 or 14 mm total stack white to box ref flexible I meant decent nice shoe. It seems like from what I’ve been reading, except for sometimes topo haskind of a aggressive art support and sometimes they have to spring. I don’t know if this one does from the pictures it doesn’t look like it does but you might wanna look into it but yeah 14 or 15 mm total stack, which is pretty good and very flexible.
@@toddboucher3302 so I actually bought the ST4 like 2 years ago, and after 30 miles just couldn't wear it anymore because of the arch support and narrow heel. Huge bummer because the toe box is nice and that stack height is right where I want it to be, but yeah my feet couldn't get over the arch support, it made them ache like crazy. We've reached out a couple times but they've never responded, if we were to ever compare them I'm sure Altra would win though haha
So the Escalante and Via Olympus are their only road shoes based on the original fit. The lone peak and Olympus are their trail shoes with that fit too. I can't use any of their other shoes anymore due to how narrow they are and the rubbing round my feet. It's very disappointing as the original foot shape is so good
I really wanted to get some Altras for my wife, but unfortunately the brand don't carry her size (35.5 EU) at all. Probably gonna go with Xeros instead, cuz they carry her size.
I bought a pair of Altra Lone Peak 8 shoes about 700k ago for running/fast walking on paved roads. Somehow the soles refuse to wear out :) Great shoes. I don't consider them to be barefoot, rather minimalistic. All my other shoes however are totally barefoot.
@@millone3393 my biggest gripe is the toe rocker, it's nuts compared to any other runner I've ever worn. I land way too far forward on my forefoot for that shoe to work for me, it feels super weird

Agreed, if you've never gone zero drop or had a wide toe box, this would be a good shoe to start in

planned obselence on training shoe soles would be an interesting video. these look like some nice shoes if they are wide enough
Should momma Severson get some of these? Sizing?
Normal sizing!

The Escalante Racer 2 is so much better. Less weight, more breathable, and lower stack
@@micdavey yeah I'm not sure if the new Racer had released yet when we asked for these, otherwise we probably would have gone for them!
Check out Flux
We got the Flux trail runner recently. Without spoiling it too much before the review, I'm gonna stick with Altra for now lol
@sonsofsever I personally love them. I own all versions and am quite happy.

@sonsofsever Hmmm. Interesting. Looking forward to the review. If they are sized 11.5, send them this way, lol.
@@millone3393 lol! Size 9, otherwise I would have been game
Escalate racer was the greatest shoe altar made. The 2 and higher are garbage
Pants on dude with yellow trainers on?? 😂
What's funny about pants? Genuinely confused haha
@@Beariam24 sorry! Are you just asking what pants they are? Path Projects Killam PX, easily my favorite running pants
@@sonsofsever yeah just asking. Sorry for the confusion 👍🏼
@@Beariam24 lol all good, that's on me for sure!
Mine were shot at about 5 miles the tread on the forefoot was nonexistant
