This is probably one of the most acclaimed renditions of Parsifal in Bayreuth lately. I find Jordan's conducting extraordinary, to my taste the best in decades... no joking. His approach is tremendously dramatic, far from the dullness many use in this particular, lyrical work. The orchestra sounds so different from any other reading that honestly I would hire him for years to come. The chorus is also outstanding, difficult to find another recording in Bayreuth with that awesome perfection (although they usually sing near perfection year after year). Voices are another business, sadly at a different level. Detlef Roth as Amfortas seems especially inadequate, small, light and lacking any dramatic insight. Kwangchoul Youn as Gurnemanz is also below the standards with his boring tone, lack of expression, soft tones. Burkhard Fritz has a voice far from beautiful, and that is his major problem. Susan Maclean does not shine either but seems more comfortable in her (very) difficult role. Let us see Act II where she has more to offer.
Gracias. Mucha opulencia en la puesta.
A música é tão sublime, meu Deus! Mas a encenação é terrível. Mesmo assim, tão fascinante e provocante quanto a música. Eu amo essa produção, embora fique horrorizado.
I always thought that traditional staging is good for singers and also to tell the story. But when i was in the audience at this production, i must say that it was very moving and intense. Hated Detlev Roth as Amfortas, though. No voice present.
@@erstenorn seems like kundry and parsifal's mother are the same person which i think is at least slightly original and interesting. although the bit with the food before kundry tells parsifal his mother is dead as well as the bit with the baby were both ridiculous and pointless as well as meaningless. edit: omg did they cook the baby
@@honeyinglune8957 It is a metaphor ("des Muttersegens letzten Gruss/ der Liebe ersten Kuss"). Syberberg realized this in a great way in his Parsifal-film (act two). And of course this is Oedipus (and Sigmund Freud).
Unbearable the over pronunciation of Amfortas. Really exaggerated . I guess when you do not possess the voice for such a role you try to compensate with that very cheap trick. What a beautiful looking show. Its really gorgeous!

Love Susan Maclean. What a presence!❤
This is rather crazy. I must see more from this chamber staging.
1:31:10 was that a saxophone??

Wings on stage :)
Which aspects of this were corrected?

What is this malaka?

in this case I must agree...

Thank God Bayreuth no longer has sole control over this opera. I own a Met dvd which is so beautiful with none of this distracting nonsense.
