      Same thing goes for the LSAT. The organization that facilitates the exam makes lots of money administering the test , for $200, it charges $50 per school to send your transcripts (mandatory THEY send them, not YOU), in addition to all your other documents that could easily submit on your own. Then there are tons of LSAT prep courses that you WILL NEED to take to score well on the exam. If they got rid of this test, many people would lose money, millions. So there’s really no incentive to eliminate it except for those entities that realize that these tests are are utilized for profit and to exclude minorities who cannot afford to compete.

    Also, poor people can't afford to take them, because yes, you do have to pay to take the SAT, which is why I didn't take it. In my day (1994), it was $40. Even in today's money, you can buy a lot for $40, if you know how to shop. So, not wasting it on a test so I can get accepted into a school I can't pay for. There should be standardized test, tho. But first there needs to be a Nat'l education standard, and the tests should reflect how well the teachers are doing their jobs. But don't let the teachers know what specific questions are on those tests before the students take them, so they can't just give away the answers before the test.

    • @drehardin
      @drehardin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A smart person, who is poor, would therefore know that attending Community College first, then transferring would benefit him financially and allow him to skip the SAT.

    One of my businesses is in tutoring and test prep. I actually stopped doing it for a few years just because of those same truths (and others) that Amber mentioned..
    Parents still buy into the hype because most colleges do. When we offer test prep now, I make sure to talk to the students about goals, habits and mindset. You know, things that actually will move their life forward regardless of school or otherwise.

    • @Akilahfoye
      @Akilahfoye 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    • @dalemyers9045
      @dalemyers9045 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Akilahfoye I get it. What made me return to doing it was a young lady who I began tutoring in eighth grade and who is now a senior. She went through another prep class and her scores didn't go up. I'm somewhat of a mentor to her now. After hearing her cry and go on about how not getting into the right school was going to ruin her life, etc, I realized that if I truly wanted to help her, that might also include being empathetic towards what she "believed" was real. That said, I just started back recently because so many parents and students still believe in the myth. I actually can help them increase scores but I also know that it's almost irrelevant in the big picture for the vast majority of students.
      Stay safe out there.

    Kinda harkens to why don't most spell checker dictionaries still don't have very common "foriegn language" words like rio, or nacht unless it's part of a commercial product or proper name. The old excuse used to be that computers didn't have the power or memory capacity for all those foriegn languages. That "fact" is now about 30 years out of date. It's sheer corporate greed, racism and nationalism that keeps driving this anachronistic paradigm - very much like the SATs, wouldn't you say?
