- ,,, recharging the magnets,, just a short venture into the mysterious world of recharging the magneto magnets,, it's an old wico ek magneto that has been repaired and now needs a recharge,,, so let's get on with the show, leave a comment, subscribe, to be continued,, and yes, to get it right we are going to do it a couple of more times,,
Another and fool proof way of figuring out the polarity actually doesn't need any figuring. Just suspend the magnet above the charger poles with a wire or strong string without it touching. When you energize the charger, the magnet to be recharged will automatically go positive to negative and vice versa and suck the magnet down on the charger the way it needs to go. Bump it a couple of times and it's done. Zero chance of reverse charging. It even works on very weak ones as long as there's something there to start with. Love your videos Sam and thanks. Nice video, but didn't seem to work too well. The ones I've seen that work use much heavier gauge wire (10 AWG), about forty pounds of it, and much heavier steel. With that small unit, you don't get anywhere near full saturation.
Yeah this does give more strength, but 2 good coils of 14 or 16 gage
magnet wire 300 turns per coil over the poles of a magnet to 24 volts
or two car batteries in series will work much much better,
When they get too old I hear its best to do it with the covers on and just use your imagination ;)
We like the covers off to up here in Ohio too

I think that other one should be redone on the that other magnetize machine you got because it couldnt hold up two bolts. The really good magnetize machine with the really fat coils.

Was on the Smokestak the other day and found out Jim White no longer makes the magnet chargers.
The charge does not look very strong. How long will it last?
15 seconds? I took my EK to a Magneto place of business and it was on his professionally machine for 2 seconds at most. Your homemade machine takes longer?
Sam I emailed Jim white an he no longer makes these chargers. I was going to purchase one from him
