How can this have any dislikes?! This is incredible, not only in terms of cinematography but also photography, the shots were so so moody and nordic, loved every bit of it. Tusen takk for det (og gratulerer med dagen sam var i går)! :)
I didn't downvote myself, but scenic b roll aside, this is yet another sad example of "TH-cam film photographer with Leica camera who didn't spend the money on Leica glass."
One of the better videos I’ve seen on TH-cam lately, great pictures and the recording of the scenery is just beautiful. With you seemingly having such great access to incredible nature, I’d just say keep putting out content like this. I could easily see this as my favorite channel in the future with these beautiful pictures and videos. Keep up the great work!
What a photogenic place! Favorite frame was @ 5:09, Love the simplicity of the red building, it pops nicely against the white landscape and the colors in the nearest window frame play nicely with that red as well. Great video
Thanks so much Cory, really appreciate the kind words! Stoked to hear you enjoyed that image. Trying to get back there ASAP and continue where I was left off.
A brilliantly made film with most of the famous locations like Hamnøy, Hauklandstranda, Ramberg, etc. Shooting analog in Lofoten is so special, in every single way. My girlfriend was a nurse on the islands in the summer of 2016, and I was lucky to spend three weeks with her during my vacation. I had been there before and had to return desperately. I took my analog Leica and photographed the hell out of those three weeks. I only took black and white photos, but they are still very precious to me. I’d love to return a third time, hopefully in the spring when there is more light but still snow. Shooting in such winter conditions is cold and a challenge in Norway. But luckily in Lofoten you’re never too far from a road so you can hop into your car - unless you pick a beach to which no roads lead, except a hiking trail. Usually those are the most incredible. The only problem with Lofoten is that it is becoming too popular and to some extent it has lost its status as an untouched, hidden corner of the world. Luckily there are many breathtaking alternatives in Northern Norway.
Oh and I should add that you had some incredible images in there, both drone and film! I love those taken at the beach near Ramberg and Hauklandstranda. It is fascinating how the color of the water can still be green in the winter, grass sticking out of the snow-covered sand... :)
Thank you so much for this, really appreciate it and glad you enjoyed the video. Lofoten truly is a special place in so many ways and it's the same for me, that I keep going back over and over again. I understand the conversation around locations becoming popular. At the same time a lot of the local businesses are depending on tourism, so it's a multi-layered topic. So glad you got to spend some time there and hope you get to return soon! 😊
Joel Hypponen Really kind of you, thanks for your kind wishes (or should I say Kiitos paljon?) :). Yes, tourism is also complex, and I am not an expert :). I agree, whatever happens, Lofoten will always be special. It has a very special place in my heart and it is in fact a part of the reason I moved to Norway in 2010. I also visited Jotunheimen last summer and used the same «windy boat» as you did on lake Gjende to get to Besseggen. We found that upper ridge a bit sketchy from the description of the hike but had another fantastic hike from the next boat stop at the other end of the lake. You took some beautiful images at Besseggen too. You were very lucky with the light. Asutko vielä Norjassa? :) Just found your channel so I wasn’t sure. Greetings from Oslo!
Joel! This is a great video, you’re style is super consistent and it makes me super happy and excited when you post! Love the style, love the photos, love the channel.
Whoa! Absolutely beautiful photos that you've made! How could I possibly choose a favorite? I'm not sure I could have left such an amazing place myself. Hopefully you landed somewhere that is much warmer at least! Thank you. (I do love 28mm on full-frame, too).
Thank you very much! I was a bit unsure if I liked those as much since they were shot during pretty low light, but I agree that the grainy feel makes those images.
Just discovered your channel, Joel, and I'm a fan! I love the photos you captured here, and I'm jealous of your eye, haha. The photo at 2:26 was my favorite; it's got a surrealistic dream-like quality. Ya can believe I hit that "Subscribe" button.
Dang Joel absolutely stunning imagery! That first one, the close up of the sand, looks incredible! Later on you also show an image of a light blue house which looks amazing. Really great work man
Really great shots ! I just don't get it how you came with those shots with a 28mm ? The aspect ratio looks way bigger than 28mm to me. Did you cropped lots of them or do you just master this focal lenght ? Good job anyway, the final result is good.
Good question, and some cropping has been done. Although I aim to do as much as possible in camera, I'm not always a huge fan of the native aspect ratio. Also thank you for watching and glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you so much! I do post-process my images and try to convey how I felt the images as I shot them. So yeah there is definitely some warmth added here to do that.
I like the sum of all the photos together, details, landscapes and local architecture. Just needed a sprinkling of local portraits. Really love getting transported to far away places. It was also nice to see the 28mm focal length as I’m selling a load of gear to buy a Leica Q. Did you crop in post to a 6x7 or 645 aspect?
Thanks so much for the nice feedback and glad you enjoyed! I did crop the images in post and definitely agree, that this is missing some portraits of locals... next time! 😊
Insane landscape Joel! I remember the day Trump shut his boarders. My girlfriend was visiting from Boston, I live in Germany, and the shear panic she had. Instead of dropping her off at the airport and go shooting, I opened a bottle of wine..... ;-). Truly inspirational video and Norway is on my top list of places to cycle and shoot! Be safe and rock on!
Thank you so much for the kind words! Remember that day like yesterday and the way it felt. That must have been a wild day there as well and the wine isn't a bad option either. Hope you get to visit Norway sometime soon! :)
This really makes me want to shoot film again... Can't wait for this social distancing thing to be over so I can go out again. Love these beautiful landscapes and subsequent calming photographs 😊 did you film everything by yourself? If so, I'd love to see more cinematography/videography videos!
That's so amazing to hear, really appreciate your feedback! Trying to shoot film as much as possible as well even though I'm still learning the craft of film photography. Everything was shot by me and really glad you enjoyed. Would love to put out some more cinematic videos in the future as well. 😊
Thank you for the kind feedback John! Those turned out interesting, especially considering they were shot during the same afternoon in the same area :)
My son, Gregory, received a Leica M6 from his Grandfather and had it repaired. I have just started shooting with it and was looking for information for it. So glad I happened upon this video. Beautiful images! Thank you so much.

Definitely a gorgeous visual story. Love the tones and textures of the landscape
Thank you very much. Really glad to hear you enjoyed the rugged scenery here and thanks for watching 😊
Soothing to watch you work. All your shots are great but love the one @5:09. See you next time.
Thank you very much Ollie! Glad to hear that, and really appreciate you taking the time to watch! 😊

Really nice. Love these frames and especially the compositions. It looks to warm for Portra. Did you push yellows into your edits? Great work. J
Amazing video and stunning shots!! I love it 😍
Could you tell me where you got this cap?
The shot of the sand at 2:27 is my favorite
A very nice composed video Joel! And the photos are awesome!!! Congrats!!!
Thank you very much! Glad to hear you enjoyed Stavros and hope you enjoy what's coming this year!
Man, those moody shots during the blizzard are my favorite.
Thanks so much Brandon, really appreciate it. Those were some fun moments for sure :)

Wonder if you used defaul 800 ISO or lower it a bit. I think 800 is some kind of too much for daylight. Thanks. Great photos by the way :)
I actually metered for 400 since the light is relatively subtle and often flat up there. Glad you enjoyed the images and thanks for watching!
All of these shots and the video footage are so beautiful!
Thank you very much. Really glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Loooove this Joel!
Thanks so much Willem, appreciate it and really stoked to hear that. Stay safe in the big city brother!

this video was so good Joel!! great job man.

Amazing job! Love all photos, but the one with the white house by the end of the street was superb!
Thank you so much! That was one of my favorites as well :)
beautiful video, the shots of all the cabins and houses were amazing. just ordered this lens can't wait for it to arrive
Thanks so much Lewis. Hope your lens has arrived by now and you have been able to enjoy it well :)

Hi, great video ! have you developed the film at box speed, and have you edited the scans ?
Thank you very much! I developed the film at box speed and made some minor adjustments in the post process. 😊
This came out so good Joel! Loving the drone shots.
Thanks so much Braedon and stoked you enjoyed! 😊
Great shoots!!!

Better than all my shots over two months here. Super sick my guy!
Thanks so much Eliot. Definitely disagree with that but I appreciate the kindness!

I think it was Reine, Hamnøy, Ballstad, Kvalvika and Unstad pretty much. Might have missed some but that's the range at least :)

Will Portra 800 use a lot of particles for M6?
I am not sure if I understand the question. What do you mean specifically? 😊
@@joelhypponen Sorry, I use a translation software. I wonder if the filmgrain of the Portra800 is too much.
