The VIN on the door sticker appears to be for a 1973 plymouth Scamp. VH23G3B164210. That decodes as a 1973 Plymouth Scamp(V- Valiant H- High trim line 23- 2 door hardtop) with a 318, built at Dodge main (G-318 2bbl, 3-1973, B-Dodge main. it looks like the production date is either 10-72 or 1-73...couldn't make it out. If that's a C instead of a G in the VIn, it means it was originally a Slant Six. The number you found on the weatherstrip rail may only be the order number which was on the fender tag, which is missing. Those holes on the passenger inner fender are NOT where the fender tag went. That's where the vacuum pod and heater control valve went when that car had air conditioning, which somebody removed. The fender tag is on the left inner, just aft of the battery. There was also a tune up sticker there..."This vehicle conforms to 1973 model year etc etc"
The engine also has casting dates and numbers on the sides of the block, as well as a partial VIN stamped into a pad on the passenger side just above the oil pan rail. The displacement is also stamped into the front face of the block just below the left cylinder head. The transmission also has a partial vin stamped into the case on a pad partway up the right side of the bellhousing. That's alarming that somebody removed the VIN plate from the dash, but what PROBABLY happened is they took out and sold the original uncut (radio) dash for $$ and installed another one to put that awesome gauge arrangement in.
You can do some paint detective work to see if the driver's door paint is the same as the body. You can pull off the door panel and investigate. With enough digging you'll find original paint. If the driver door matches the body color then chances are that's your original VIN on the door sticker. I think you can get repo vin plates made WITH PROOF of ownership and VIN. I know they sell the transfer sticker that goes on the plate.
Two things to always remember about buying vintage Mopars:
1: Unless the person spends a lot of time or money or both, they do lazy bullshit work like you see here. They have no imagination...they are always painted orange, yellow or green on a car this year which was never those colors. They were mostly tan, brown or green. They remove the AC because they are too lazy to get it going again and lack the understanding of how hard those components are to find now. Those of us that are around Mopars can see every single shortcut they took.
2: a good lesson to not EVER pay that kind of money for a Mopar unless it has a VIN TAG, a FENDER TAG, preferably a broadcast sheet and they all MATCH. My '68 Valiant is worth half of what you paid for that and has all of those. Not beating you down, but ALWAYS REMEMBER that.

Out of all the vehicles you’ve ever had on this channel, I think this one is my favorite. I’m not a mopar guy but I really do like this car. I agree for the price you paid and the damage that it had, maybe a little on the higher side but it’s still a really nice car, probably fast as hell if it topped out at 70 with half throttle lmao.

"Rosette" rivets drilled out on the dash. The data tag(s) aren't on the passenger side, they'd be where the MSD box is- only 2 screws hold it onto the inner fender.
There is a "Hidden" VIN underneath by the front of the leaf spring mount. I know '67-'76 A-bodies really well

That extra rod leading to the carb goes back to the transmission to automatically downshift it when you stomp on it. You have no heater hoses hooked up would be my guess as to why you have no heat. That set up is a super classic set up. Please never sell it. Work out the small issues. It will be worth it. If I had ten grand, I would be in your face in a New York minute !!

This kinda looks like a teenager's project. The car has been in an accident or something, it was lazily put back together, some things didn't work so they were like "Oh heck with it" and left it alone.. oh well, it's gone now anyways. Waiting for the other classic project Randy, keep 'er goin!

I bought a 1999 Nissan Maxima from a "friend" of mine... brought it our family mechanic for repairs. He told me none of my vin numbers matched the car. He said the firewall vin was for a 1996 Nissan Maxima, the door vin was for a 98 Maxima and the vin plate was for a 1996 Nissan Altima. In my state, I did not need a title because the car was so old. This really weirded me out lol.

That’s honestly the reality of classic cars that have been modified, we fall in love with the looks, the smell, the feel but when you look into the history of the car it can be an utter lemon or a mechanical nightmare. As you pointed out, it’s rough ridding, it’s set up all wrong and has fallen prey to what I call “Amatuer modification” while it definitely looks cool and is improved, the ways it’s Been done are definitely not the right way. But what we love is your brutal honesty, if anything you’re letting people be more aware when purchasing a classic car that’s been mod.

The fact the door lock won't turn by the ignition key is not necessarily something sinister...
Guys often replaced ignition switches and saved ten buck by not buy the complete set with matching door locks. So they then had two of the diamond keys.
You can be Mr. Skinflint by taking the door locks apart and swapping pins until you get an arrangement where your ignition key will work. Typically you can get three out of five to work in new locations.

It is hard to see, but it looks like the transmission linkage from the carb is either not hooked up or not present. That big stud sticking out to the left if where it should be.
The thing has a slot so there is some movement before it starts pushing back on the lever.
If you run without it, with the lever full forward (upshift signal) or full backward (downshift signal), you will get wrong shifts and burn out your trans. If it is full back, you will know it because shifts are severely delayed.

Some carbs have an additional hole in the throttle linkage plate which is there for use on Mopars. Holleys have 3 holes and you’ll need the bottom hole for it in that bracket plate so it’s closest to the throttle shaft to get it to work as Mopars have a shorter throw on the throttle cable and unless the linkage is relocated to the bottom of the 3 holes you will never get full throttle unless you switch over to either a Ford or GM gas pedal and cable assembly, and that kick down linkage has to be hooked up or you will likely encounter transmission problems and potential failure. It was explained to me years ago that without it downshifting for passing in a Mopar without it was a very bad idea. It’s possible I was misled, but I don’t think so.

      @auteurfiddler8706 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I think you have it the other way around. The 727 was used behind big engines and behind smaller engines in heavier vehicles. The 904 and other later engines that start with 9 are the lighter duty transmissions. But , yeah, keep the aftermarket gauges. Why not if they work?

I put every part from that kit into that 727. When I put it back in the car, it would not go forward or reverse. I called the owner of the shop, he asked what kit number I had. He told me the kit was for a 727&904. The only difference was the 904 had one extra clutch disk and ring. He told me to remove 1 disc and ring.
I did and it ran perfect till several years i sold the car. The shop owner told me about the difference between the 727 & 904. My cuda had a318 with a 727, and my 71 charger had a 383 with a 727 . My friend had a Dodge dump truck that had a 904.

I'll have to watch the rest of the videos and see if you put a fan shroud on it. It keeps the pesky rocks away from your radiator.

Looks like a good candidate for a track or drag race car.

Just bc the build sheet in the seat matches the door doesnt mean the door and seats couldnt have came from another car. either way hope it works out for you. I just wouldnt trust a build sheet on a car that has been worked on such as this one. It's also missing the fender tag.

Now you know why Copart took the car to Virginia to sell it.

  • @79tazman

That is weird that a car from Louisiana was at a copart in Virginia being sold as a flood car. So did the old owner do a Insurance job on the car? In order for a claim to go through the car has to have a vin tag on it

No wipers either? It feels like it was a project that someone was 85% done with and ran into a "Need Cash NOW" situation so they slapped it together and sent it to auction, I bet they had all the vin plates somewhere but they didnt get put on for some reason after paint a body work was done.

Round key is only for the trunk & glove box lock only. If the locks in the door go bad, it's easy to pop new ones in...the column? You have to pull the wheel & column partially to replace the cylinder.
My '76 Valiant has the Formula S/A38/A51 suspension. It handles better than you'd think and rides decent- I run the old vintage Mopar cop wheels with 60 series black wall Bridgestones

I think there was a 340 in this car and the owner pull it out and stuck a old 318 back in it to get rid of it, chrome it up and get rid of it. we bought a super Bee a few year ago, and that's what the guy did he jerk the High performance 383 out and stuck an old 383 back in it it's common .

I like that orange mess it’s worth the effort to get it tagged ,once it’s proven not to be stolen they can retag it. I think we’ll NY does it.

My theory about the plugged hose could be that someone did it after the car was totaled and expecting that the new owner would end up blowing up the engine. In other words...this was planned for the car grenading on the new owner.

In California we have a thing called special construction....... Special construction will allow you to stamp new numbers into that thing however here's the catch....... And I've done this by the way a few times...... They tell you if someone comes along and says that that's their car and they can prove it you're going to jail......... Had a spitfire with no registration... Had boats with no registration.... Motorcycles.....

You got it all wrong with the Resistor! When turning the Motor to start you have 12V so to get a stronger Spark. Then, when you let go of the key the System provides a lower Voltage as not to pop the Coil. Belive me - I bougth a 440 GTX in Oregon in 1976 and drove it all over to New York with no issues, then the Coil started to act funny. After some half-hour of driving the engine stopped. Thinking it was dirt in the Carb I tore it apart, cleaned it and engine did run for another half-hour. Did this at least four times. - Not fun doing carb-maintenance on the Pennsylvania turnpike... The Police of course stopped and asked to help, but it wasn't needed. Later on when I got the Car over to Sweden, where I live, I found out that the Coil went bad after it got warm - new Coil - Case solved.
Otherwise - Nice Channel You got. Been following for more than three years now and checks every video, am a Subscriber, but it won't show as I use VPN and to avoid you tubes algorims....

Well said. That is why a car with a burnt out ballast will start when the key is in the start position, but die when the key turns to "run."

randy there is another youtuber called diy gang who bought a all wheel drive trackhawk and had all the papers from copart and knew the preous ower and some one used his vin number on another jeep that was also sold by copart and now he has been fighting with copart from jun 18th 2021 and i dont thing he has the title yet

  • @garryhatchett775
    @garryhatchett775 2 ปีที่แล้ว

You had that backwards. It’s supposed to get full voltage during cranking, then reduced voltage when running.
