I love seeing the rolling stock and this video didn't not disappoint. Too often these videos from the 60s and 70s they stop filming after the locos pass. This one did not have that problem.
the footage quality of this film is simply incredible, a shame it's not in 720p, but any good railroad footage of these railroads are nice to see regardless anyhow, amazing work
Thanks! These were digitized years ago. I'm assuming 480p was what my dad could afford at the time. If we are able to digitize the remaining collection they will be 720p.
Simply incredible, high res footage and the near engine shots are great. Nice to see some new footage on TH-cam and have to thank you for your investment in high quality film. Can’t imagine thinking 40 years later this would be such a treat to so many!
Much appreciated nostalgic trip back in time, a better time, it seemed. The D&H was my hometown rr in the Oneonta area. As a young railfan, I had no understanding of the economics of railroading. I just loved watching trains. And counting the cars.
The ghost of at least one D&H ALCO is still earning its keep in revenue service. There is a short line in my area of the country called the Arkansas & Missouri. One of their ALCO C420s, number-62 on the roster, is former D&H 417
Great footage, it’s kind of interesting that the unused yard east of Solomon’s Gap was reopened by the Reading and Northern in the late 90’s. It is Penobscot yard. My first solo trip as an engineer was from Allentown to there. I had to reverse at Solomon’s Gap.
Ask Guilford, or PAN AM, -- or whatever it is called this month. The economy dictated some changes for RR's, but GUILFORD was the one that REALLY screwed up the D&H, MEC, AND B&M. All of those are gone now.
@@wondabizTechnically its still Pan Am, until CSX patches replace all Pan Am, B&M and MeC lettering on operational equipment, Pan Am is still an entity of some form
The day after Christmas 1978, I was at Sharonville, OHIO (CR) and there was a solid blue DH U30C at the engine terminal. The poor thing was awaiting it's death sentence. It had been sold to Mexico and was in transit. 15:25 the 504 was renumbered 2780. In May of 1980 I caught 2780 at the Sharonville roundhouse still in red. Ironic since my family includes the Cornell's and the LV paint is called Cornell red.
Beautiful shots. Thanks for not adding any insipid music to it.
Love the Alcos! Great to see freight cars with no graffiti too.

Great video. I railfanned the area in the late 70's early 80's pre Guilford. Thanks for taking me back to simpler times.
Another video that can't be beat. Thanks again! Enjoyed!!
Great film. I wish there was some of the Washington branch. Thanks for sharing!
Wow. Some really great stuff. Love those D&H PA's.

it’s CSX now sadly

They never thought it would be a bike trail. Out BH.
I can’t wait to see the Norfolk Southern Delaware and Hudson heritage ES44AC or SD70ACE!
They don’t own the IP

19:51: Those small passenger enclosures were nicknamed "Amshacks"
At 10:43 that was a brave soul standing up there on the viaduct
What are the steel loads on the flat cars on some trains?
Viewing this brings down my blood pressure...
We had such great railroads....why it was all ruined is something I wonder about.
ICC and federal restrictions. Plus Hurricane Agnes didn’t help
Penn Central, mainly, and their creative accounting.
D&H ruled !
