Outstanding video. It's amazing that CN's Wet Noodle has outlasted dozens of railroad logos and even dozens of railroads 😊
That sure brings back good memories!!!! Great old power and a better time before all the Fed. regulations and double and triple rules to cover one thing. Thanks for the memories!!!! Just glad I'm not there anymore!!!!
Outstanding! I have never seen the red and white PC logo. It looks much better than the all-white. Anyone know when or why it was ditched?
"Santa Fe all the way!" Happy New Year Guy!
Railroads might be more efficient there days but they are nowhere near as interesting, I'm British and was lucky enough to spend six months near Chicago in the latter half of 1983, had a great time filming numerous railroads
History indeed, shame there was no sound in those days
Love this footage. Thanks!😊
This brings back great memories , they ran fast and frequent back then . I know all these spots and CSX runs now , but it's not the same ... Thanks for posting these !!
I've been to the Starrucca Viaduct a few times but have yet to catch a train crossing it. That footage of the rail cars swaying on the viaduct as they pass high over that house is a bit concerning. BTW, I think that house is still there. If you look it up on google street view and compare the windows and layout it looks like the same building, but with a nice cosmetic upgrade, new siding, etc.
Check out all them hoity toity snowbird’s autos. Pretty spiffy
Nice memories of the times, thank you!
Have a great holiday
A great series of photos. Thanks for posting!
My pleasure!
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas!
Thank you for the Syracuse Dewitt yard footage!
You bet!
this has to be the best looking video and best example of USA railroading in history. Its simply the best.
Thank you!
I love the A&W footage. I have seen pictures but never any video of it. I'm a 70 tonner fan, and this was great to see one in action like this. Thanks!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
I loved seeing those Southern Railway Diesels in Sanford, back when they still controlled that portion of the CF-Line.
Funny story a freind told me that use to work in the yard there in Milwaukee. Those FM's would sit and idle all weekend and when Monday morning came around they were ready to pull long cuts of cars out of the yard. When they would start to really work, all the carbon that would accumulate from the weekend would get burned off along with all the other exhaust. He said they would smoke so bad that they would stop traffic up on the bridge and any pigeons that were thriving under the bridge would cease to do so. It was a guys job to go out and pick up all the dead pigeons which would fill a wheel barrow.
What outstanding footage. Thank you!
To explain the nickname "Skunk" for the California Western's passenger trains: When the first gasoline-electric motor cars were thus introduced on their Fort Bragg-Willits run in 1926, locals couldn't help but notice the overpowering smell of the gasoline exhaust as they passed by, with some comparing such to the smell of skunks. Now you know.
Thank You Guy for sharing all this great footage ! Awesome footage
Very nice! Would love to see more from NC & VA if you have any.
Thanks for uploading these pricless moments. Hard to believe for me that when I was in my first year of high school, the LVRR was no more.

Nice see the A&W how i remember it back then, its changed so much over there thanks
Cool. I stopped too soon one day! That Canandaigua branch work is awesome. I remember working short locals like that on the Monon before they became 100 car locals. Switching on hand signals was fun as was dropping cars.
Great stuff, this! Cherry on the sundae was seeing the Atlantic & Western’s crack intermodal train! Lol! Forgotten in todays railroading, circus style loading of TOFC cars was once a widely used “technology”! I recall N&W’s ramp in Winston-Salem beside the engine terminal. They’d spot several flats, drop the ramps between the cars and proceed to unload one trailer at a time with an old B series Mack truck. The real sign of skill was when the reloading process began, the driver had to back the trailers up the ramp and down the line of flats to the farthest position, crank down the landing gear, uncouple the truck, then run the hitch slowly up to the raised position, hoping that they’d spotted the trailer at the proper position to allow the kingpin to engage the hitch! Then they’d go get another trailer and repeat the operation, the good part being that each trip required less backing up than the previous! Excellent video! Thanks for capturing it all those years ago!
More cool scenes! Very interesting stuff, thanks for filming it in the day.
Thank you. I have watched trains in that area around Newark and Lyons since 1971.
Never get tired of these great vids , keep them coming !!
I’d tip my hat to you,but I haven’t got a hat.
you best find one, gettin cold out
I love the RF&P. Lived in Richmond for 6 months in the late 80s. Saw their stuff everyday.
Guy. I tip my hat to you. That portion with 'Atlantic&Western ' was by far a real treat. Thank you !
Agree. Awesome paint scheme and vibes.
too bad you weren't there just a few years prior to catch the ns baldwins
Once again, very enjoyable !
Great videos Guy! Watching the Sayre turn was special with the sharks. The entire video is great. So sad this proud road is gone. Thanks again for the incredible variety of the Valleys once colorful consist
Great footage
Nice catch in the snow and the center cab pulls the one covered hopper is priceless ❤💯😎
Wow! Great stuff!! That's the era when I was a train nut. You are taking me back to happy times! 😊
Sure glad we replaced grass-covered tracks and electric locomotives with asphalt and diesel trucks.
Excellent ! Keep them coming 😎
I remember getting a release at the Colonie Yard office one time in the mid 1970's . Had the place to myself , NOTHING was off limits , those were the days.... Thanks for posting these gems !!
Good thing you got to see it then--- all that's left is a few yard tracks, from what I hear.
@@Joe-d7m6k That is sad to hear , back then it was a busy , busy place , both shops and yard. The four FPA4's were on site and the place was ALCO heaven . The Sharks were in Whitehall and a road trip was made to see them. Boy , I sure miss the D&H , what a classy outfit it was.
Another great video Guy!
Thanks!
Many people didn't realize the 'Pups' were equipped with dynamic brakes !
Superb! It sickening to see those shop buildings come down.
Cool seeing the old AmTrak's
Thanks!
Thank you!
Better days, my friend
Please do a documentary on the existing state of the railways. Sorry I forgot we don't have one
