The word "Poser" was just coming out and most rappers were speaking about the streets the came from. I think the fact that they were a couple of privileged Jewish kids coming from wealth hurt their images. Personally I think if you can rap and it's good then it shouldn't matter if you're from Mars. But I think that's why they really didn't get over. But despite all this they were definitely popular when they came out. They just didn't last like Dre , Snoop , Rob Base , KRS1 , ect
