Yes! We had "The Box" (or something similar) in Chicago. I remember it was on channel 13, which wasn't really a channel here, so it would always come in fuzzy picture, but the audio was clear. I remember putting hangers and tinfoil on the antenna to make the picture come in semi-clear 😂😂😂. These young'uns don't know the lengths we had to go to trying to hear our favorite jams! No internet, let alone TH-cam and all these 21st century music apps! I remember sitting with my finger on the record button, just waiting until that song I wanted came on the radio!
Simpler times, for sure...man, I miss those days.

And rap was way more connecting, sometimes positive, sometime serious. Now it just seems violent and divisive. And I speak from a perspective of someone who grew up when the "gangsta" era was starting off in to the main stream.

They were a punk rock group that made an experimental hip-hop track then almost fully transitioned to hip-hop by 1984, Rick Rubin never asked them to rap, infact they came to Rick for a DJ and producer to make their hip-hop records, if they were forced into hip-hop they would have definitely stopped making it by Paul's Boutique...

I got in a fight with my cousin over the cactus album tape that was left in our older cousin's mustang when he went to jail. The day my uncle drove it home and parked it, we were checking it out, sitting in it and The tape was sticking out. I can't remember who grabbed it first but we didn't talk to each other for like a week. And, I think it was taken away so neither of us would have it. We were like 12 or 13. The mustang was a gray gt. Long story and I'm getting off subject but I was a third bass fan from the beginning.
