This is the best sermon I have heard on efficacious prayer from a Thomistic perspective. Scholastic theology is a gift to the church. Like a masterful surgeon, it provides theological precision like none other. Thank you, Father!

There is a wonderful irony among the Apostles in this Gospel passage. At about 8 minutes in, Father speaks of the Apostles, in desperation, waking the Lord and begging "... please do something..." which implies they had some idea (or hope?) that Jesus could indeed do something. Then when he DOES do something they are amazed, thinking "what sort of man is this?". Do we do this in our own lives when we pray and petition "Lord do something!" and then hope for something too small (just get the water out of the boat), not trusting in something much bigger and broader? (The storm has passed, the calm waters are here)

Some of this I understand but on the other hand, it makes me think that prayer is difficult. I thought we were to just speak to God like I would speak to my priest.
Is there a definitive way? Idk casual talk, intentions thanking him throughout the day are all ways of prayer I suppose
Prayer is only difficult because we're bad at it. It needn't be difficult. You can look into works by the saints (St. John of the Cross, St. Francis De Sales, St. Theresea of Lisieux, etc), or modern people trying to help in works like "An Introduction to the Spiritual Life" by Brant Pitre.
Sheila, there are many things in life that, once mastered, are quite simple. From learning to walk to driving a car... once learned, these are almost second nature. Prayer is simply conversation with God, in its essence. But we do need to learn how to speak to God in a way that puts our mind and soul in right order so that our prayer is properly framed. If a child comes to a parent and demands a cookie, the parent, with patience and a desire to teach manners, frowns and says something like "is that the right way to ask?" The parent patiently lovingly explains how to ask. The answer then may be "yes" or "no" trusting that God sees the entire picture and every moving piece and therefor what is right and good for us. The more we learn about prayer, the more it becomes natural, comfortable but just like driving, it doesn't mean we won't have traffic jams, poor road conditions and other bad drivers around us! Fear not... Christ is there, dozing in the back seat!

The bible says that God flies on a small Cherub (a young girl whose age does not exceed 12 years).
The bible did not say, does God stand on its back or on its stomach? Does He hold it by its body or its hair to direct it and so that it does not fall as well?

The Quran is a perverted document that turns people away from worship of the true God. Whatever inspiration there is in it, is not Divine but rather preternatural i.e. of the fallen angels, who seek tirelessly to diabolically disorient men. Go through both the Catholic Scriptures and the Muhammadan counterfeit scriptures and you will see that the former teaches virtue, and extols natural virtue at a far greater degree than the latter.
