Matt, Glad to see you are doing better. I am Gary the "Ohio to Texas" guy that visited Gold Pan Records a few years ago. I had open heart surgery at 33 for an Atrial Septal Defect. There will be a long slow road to recovery. Keep wearing your tight socks and hug your pillow. For a comedic break I recommend a book from Lewis Grizzard called "I Took A Lickin' And Kept On Tickin' (And Now I Believe In Miracles)". Grizzard is an Atlanta based writer that went through heart surgery and wrote a book about it. Gary (TheYeoman)
Gary! Great to hear from you! I appreciate you reaching out! Tight socks and pillow hugging are two tips I got early on and both have really been helpful. The pillow hugging got me to sleep the first few nights I was home. Thanks for the book recommendation! I will definitely check that out. Thanks again for the comment! It means a lot to me!
Hi Matt. I really admire you for sharing this with your viewers - it's a reminder that the VC is about people, not just records. Wishing you a speedy recovery. ☮
This was like 5 years ago - I remember feeling tired and run down and went to bed at 7pm. Got the sweats, so I figured a flu - then apparently at 3am I woke up to pee and passed out in bathroom - so my wife brought me to the emergency room - noticed I had a cyst like thing in my crotch and that had bothered me the day before, so my wife mentioned it to the doctor, they said it was no big deal and not related and sent me home - that didn't sit well with my wife and forced me to go to my main doctor later in the morning - they drew blood and I had a super high white blood cell count - the rushed me into surgery and it turned out I had a 10 inch tract of infection that was almost to a main artery, was in the hospital on IV antibiotics for a few days... so you know, would have died thing if I left it alone. So, moral of the story - if the wife says go, GO.
Thanks so much! It’s always good to hear from someone that went through something similar and is on the other side. Thanks for the comment! I appreciate you!
WOW…So glad you are still with us. What happened to you is kind of what happened to John Ritter. I personally had a heart attack (blocked artery) 3 years ago on Thanksgiving. Definitely changes your perspective on what’s important. I had similar feelings in that some things just seemed pointless but that will change in time. It’s great you are willing to share your experience as it is cathartic for the soul. Don’t overdo it as it will take awhile to build up your strength but it will happen. Peace be with you brother.
You are spot on. I’m almost positive Ritter had an aortic dissection. Anything heart related is always scary and you worry about it happening again. That’s my biggest fear right now. Thanks for sharing your experience with me. I appreciate it big time!
Dude that's brutal, this video truly hit me hard. Happy to hear you're on the road to recovery, very brave of you to make this video too and show that vunerability. Big love on behalf of all your Aussie mates, hope you're back to full health in no time, chin up champion ✌️❤️🤘🇦🇺
Thanks so much! I appreciate it so much! I had a scan and follow up appointment yesterday and all was good so I’m still on the road to recovery! Slow and steady but so grateful to still be here :)
Glad that you were able to post this. You know we have been thinking about you and sending you all prayers for recovery. Can’t wait to get back to talking records with you on the channel.
For sure, my brother! Hopefully we can hang sooner than later! Until then, enjoy the heck out of the Dead and Co show! I’ll be there with you in spirit!
Hello Matt, It takes real courage to put oneself out there in public and share. So great that you did because it can help. So sorry that this happened. I hope and pray that you will get better and hope the best for your family.
Matt...I just found out about this when someone brought this up in another channel.Continued Prayers of Healing going out to you sir.Take it easy and take care and honestly good to see you and thank you for letting us know with this update.
Hey Matt Just heard about your health scare from Psych in the Valleys. So sorry to hear you've suffered this. Life throws curveballs sometimes and it hits like a hammer. You're spot on though when you say it gives you a different perspective on whats' important. Really courageous of you to come on and do this video and be so candid. Hey there Matt. It is really good to see you again. I was wondering where you have been. Wow. I was not expecting this kind of news. Listen, there is nothing wrong with getting emotional. You have ever right to do so with everything you have been through. I do know some things about recovery. Staying as positive as you can will help your recovery tremendously. You are young and you are strong which is a big plus. Eventually you will put all of this behind you. Oh. Loosing a few pounds is never a bad thing. You still look like the ever cool & handsome DJ Mellow Yellow to me. Hang in there brother Matt~ Rob/Boston
You're a lucky, blessed fella, Matt. The pain shows the desire to reach out. Nothing ugly about it. Glad you did. Best wishes as you continue your journey to a full recovery. We're all here for you. God bless. -Jeff
Hi Matt, wishing you all the best with your recovery. You are incredibly strong and always bring so much joy and positivity in your videos. Glad you managed to walk with your dad. I remember walking with my dad when recovering from an accident. Dads can really sort you out. I bet your walk with your daughter really helped you all as well. Anxiety can be so difficult to deal with but it will get better in time. Your mind will heal. I really do wish you all the very best. You will get there. Like so many other people have said, you are in my prayers. Take care and hey, enjoy those wonderful records. Cheers for now, Steve.
Thanks so much, Steve! The walks were definitely nice. Very much good for me physically and mentally. I also think my dad needed it as much as I did. He stayed with me quite a bit at the hospital when my wife couldn’t be there. It feels good to be on the mend, and I know I have a long way to go but comments like yours really help a lot and mean a lot to me too! I appreciate it!
Wow, I haven't commented on your videos much but I think I've watched them all. Thank you for sharing and I'm glad to hear you're ok. Glad to hear you're recovering and evaluating what is most important in life. Family. I would let my records burn in an instant to keep my kids safe. That said good to hear you're coming back around to appreciating what you have and enjoying music. Hope you continue to recover quickly and be well.
Totally agree! Family first all the way. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for my wife and daughter and music is way down the list of priorities. I’m not so nihilistic about the records as I was when I first got home haha but this definitely made me think long and hard about priorities and what’s important to me. Thanks so much for your comment! I appreciate it!
Blimey Mellow. Bright Blessings me old mucka. PTSD hit me out of nowhere when I was in my late 30s, one tip that's small however really does help. Don't cross your legs and arms when sitting, it's a defensive posture that heightens levels of adrenalin. Just chill out, let your body heal and don't put pressure on yourself or I'll remotely change your internal jukebox to "Hello, This is Joanie" ;-)
PTSD is a heck of a thing… and thanks for the tip on crossing arms and legs! I’ll have to be mindful of that one. I really appreciate you reaching out, Steve! Means a lot to me!
Holy smokes! Glad that you are home and doing better. Rest and listen to your wife and doctor! Work on the video, that will help your mental health. And keep walking! That helps!! Back in April My dad had a pain in his arm, turns out it was a clot and we took him to the hospital in the middle of the night. Really scary. Totally understand. He’s doing 💯 better now. You will be ok. Prayers and love to you and your family for a speedy recovery!
So brave of you to upload this. Super strong. I have had a year of anxiety and anti depressives so I know all about the crying and mental state. The main tip i got from my psychiatrist was to tell your self “it will not be like this forever”. Hard to believe when you are in the middle of it but with the mental bit of it it is true. It will pass. Take care of yourself man. You look strong. You will come out of this stronger than ever. //Jonas
Thanks so much, Jonas! Luckily I don't remember much of my hospital stay. Apparently I had a big mental breakdown there and questioned reality. They essentially had to sedate me. So when I got home and my hormones and emotions were all over the place, I reached out to the doctor and got put on some anxiety meds really quickly. They've helped a lot but I still get emotional at the drop of a hat. As seen clearly in this video haha I appreciate you sharing your story too. Thanks so much!
Hi Matt, so sorry to hear about your illness. Getting over continuing health issues can be an absolute pain - I've been there. But there is always hope and you are still a young man. It may well be difficult now but think how much you have improved since your worst moment. Thinking about you. Regards, Paul in Galway.
Always loved your videos. You got me into psych ! Put yourself and family first, worry about the other stuff later. Maybe a little music will help your wellness. Get healthy !
Thanks, Michael! I’m hoping to do some more vids once I start getting some energy back. It’s relaxing and it’s good to interact with everyone here. Really lifts my spirits. Thanks for your comment and encouragement!
@@sandsy04 The mental part is much harder than the physical part, no doubt! Keep occupied and keep doing what they say, you will get there, they can work wonders! Take care.
Bodies, so unreliable, expect the unexpected. You just never know what might 'break' from one moment to the next. The PTSD usually improves over time, but after these events you develop a deeper sense of chance dynamics, or the need to live in the moment.
You are spot on, Mike. I’m just taking things one day at a time and trying to stay positive. I’ve got some meds that are helping with the anxiety and PTSD. It was an eye opening experience for sure. I appreciate the comment!
An incredibly scary experience Matt and just glad to see you come through. Just take your time to fully recover and enjoy that time off with the important things in your life...your family. All the best...Nigel
Thanks so much, Nigel! I appreciate it! The hardest part is letting my body recover on its own time. I want to be bouncing back faster than I am but I know if I don’t rest and take it easy it will just prolong the recovery.
Jeez Matt..., really sorry to hear about your health issues. Just take things a step at a time. Getting yourself back up and running is the main priority. Take care..... Bruce.
Baby steps, day by day and you`ll be back on track pretty soon, but you will nerver be the same. You will appreciate life more which is a good thing. ❤️from 🇸🇪
Emotions...whaddygonnado? Like everyone else, I was really moved by your open and honest sharing. It really woke me up and caused me to take a pause about...life in general, I guess. Anyway,...you seem like a good person, Matt...and I think the world's a little bit better place with you hanging around. Stay well. Mind your Ps & Qs. And remember to always keep a few packages of Ramon noodle in the cabinet. You passed the audition, kid!
Thanks, Casey! I appreciate it, man! I’ve never been a big fan of the Ramen Noodle honestly but my taste buds have changed slightly after this ordeal so maybe I’ll give them a whirl haha
OMG! I had no idea that this happened but I am so glad that you are OK! Being home alone for over a year now, I do get your anxiety etc. I have lost much of my confidence and most of my social skills since then, so my advice is to be with and lean on as many people as you can. We are all with you in the VC! Take care Matt...
The solitude definitely takes its toll! If you ever want to chat, feel free to message me! Thanks for your comment and encouragement, Tim! Means a lot to me!
Damn man! I am so glad you were able to get help in time! You went through a very traumatic experience for your age. I miss your vids, you guys got me into psychedelia. Take this time and play with your kid and make some vids, that will take up some down time and keep your mind from thinking too much. Take care buddy and hope to see more videos soon.
Thanks so much, Mark! Something like this definitely gives you perspective and makes you think about things. Hopefully some vids coming soon! I appreciate you!
It was super scary but I’m so grateful she made me go to the hospital. She absolutely saved my life. It really does suck going through it but I’m glad I’ve got outlets like TH-cam to get me through :)
Long time viewer here. So sorry to hear about your ordeal. I’ve not had an experience like yours but I do have a lot of experience with anxiety and depression. I found CBD oil capsules to be the biggest help. There’s none of the fog that comes with some of the other anxiety meds I’ve tried. I just feel totally normal on them. I hope things improve for you man, stay strong.
Thanks so much! I’ve had someone else recommend CBD oil too so I’ll have to give that a try. I really appreciate your comment and encouragement! It means a lot!
Hey Matt. It may have been weirder NOT to get emotional given your circumstance. Whew. Scary stuff, man. I've been a long time fan of your channel and always get a kick out of the hilarious and insightful energy you and Sam bring to the VC. Take care of yourself and rest easy, man.
Yes you never know what can happen...I had stomach pains ,went to the hospital and had a 2 1/2 tumor in the lining of my stomach...Gist cancer .I went in 2018 this was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving was in hospital 4 weeks ,then 4 weeks in rehab...Merry Christmas. I list 50 lbs...been on meds since Jan 2019 ,cancer is gone will be off meds Jan 2022....but I'm double your age i will be 70 on Jan8....elvis's and Bowie's birthdays....Have a Happy New Year....my man and good luck....Geno
Aw man so sorry to hear of your health scare. Glad to hear u are on the mend. It’s only proper to display emotion- no point at all in keeping it all in. Emotion is a release valve that’s all Love to u and the family. Got into psych cos of u. Blessings.
Thanks, Ben! I’ve never been a very emotional person so this is teaching me to let it out when I feel it coming on. It’s not been easy haha Thanks for the comment and encouragement! I really appreciate it!
Hey Matt. Be patient with yourself and your body. Expect it to take time to overcome the anxiety. It is a natural reaction to any kind of shock and it will take time to assimilate and heal. A really simple exercise is taking a moment to breathe deeply two or three times. Do this as often as you feel you need- or can. You will find the emotions ease as the body heals. Remember those around you will probably be more patient with you than you will be with yourself. I hope things heal well, you are completely restored and you find moments of genuine peace during this difficult time. Prayers are with you. Alan
Thanks so much, Alan! The breathing exercise is a good tip and I’ll implement that immediately. The hardest part for me is wanting to see more progress faster. I need to be patient and let my body heal at its own pace. I really appreciate your comment. Means a lot to me!
All of your feelings are absolutely normal. I had bone cancer and had to slog through half a dozen surgeries. All to say that you've faced your mortality head on and way before your time. It's tough and it will take you quite a while to process. In fact your body will probably heal before your psyche does. Be patient, treat yourself with the utmost kindness and cry as much as you want to. Time is the greatest healer, that and good music so don't give up on your records just yet! ;-) Best, John on the west coast waiting. ( lets see if you get the lyrical reference ;-))
Man, your comment made me cry. I’m more emotional than usual anyway but it got me. I’m so sorry you had to go through that! But I’m glad you’re on the other side! Like you said, it takes more of a mental toll than physical but I know I’ll get through it. Thanks so much for your comment! I appreciate you!
I did a lot of crying too, Matt. Later on I felt a lot of anger as well. Life can be exceedingly capricious and when something like this happens you realize how little control you have, even over your own body. You wonder how could my body do this to me? You also figure out pretty quickly that there is absolutely nothing more important than your health. So I totally understood that in the middle of all of this you looked at your records and thought them ephemeral and somewhat meaningless. And they are and they aren't. I'm so sorry that you've had to go through this. I wouldn't wish something like this on well anybody. My last surgery was over a decade ago and with the passage of time the psychological scars have healed. They will for you, as well. With time. Best, John
Best wishes Matt, stay strong, take things slowly and get yourself better!! The music might not be your priority right now but your passion for it will return I promise so hold onto that collection!! My record room has a whisky bar in it so next time I'm in there I'll be sure to make a toast to your swift recovery!! Come visit if you are ever near Manchester in the UK in the future!! All the best to you and the family!!
Thanks so much, Andy! I’m finding myself going to the record room more lately now that I’m getting some energy back. I wish I could get out and do some digging but that’s a ways away still. I’ll raise a glass (probably of Gatorade haha) in your honor too sir! Thanks for the comment and encouragement!
@@sandsy04 Send me a want list of stuff you'd like from the UK I'll do some digging on your behalf, no charge, call it a cheer you up get well gift from one collector to another!! 😁👍
I've been watching your videos for awhile now, probably since the beginning..I'm 32 and I always think about how shitty stuff like this is....thankfully you're okay much love from Florida
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it! I’ve been trying to think of some video topics so I can film some while I’m laid up. Maybe I’ll do one on my dvd/blu ray collection… :) Thanks again for the comment! Means a lot to me!
Hey Matt WOW !!! that is scary stuff so glad you are here to talk about it. In June of 2018 I had blood clots that got in my lungs and real close to my heart that I was in ICU for a few days. Then a month later I had a strange trip fell on my should and snap it had to have titanium put in with heavy nerve damage and I still do not have full range of motion. It is a eye opener once things like this happen and make you reevaluate your priorities and goals. I am so glad to hear you are recovering. Is this something that could happen again ?
Wow! I don’t think I was aware of your health issues! Glad you’re doing good now, brother! Like you said, stuff like this is definitely an eye opener. There’s potential for it to happen again but the odds of it happening after surgery is fairly low. I’ve got to be on blood pressure meds the rest of my life now and I have to watch my sodium intake so there are some lifestyle changes to be made. Hopefully with the meds and just being mindful I should be ok.
Great to SEE u and I understand the emotions I’m sure it’s hard but you’ve made it thru a lot and I’m really wishing u a total recovery physical and also with the anxiety also looking forward to seeing more of your vinyl videos in the future, take care keep listening to those great albums 😊👍🏻
Still weeks before I start to learn to walk again but I my strength is coming back in my arms, back, shoulders, and core. I'm staying positive and keeping at it.
Been thinking of you since your post. My friend had a similar thing years back and that was one hell of a fast rush to the hospital. They were quick and precise and he came out fine. But it does make you think, these things we know nothing of until the day. So glad you're on the mend. One step at a time! Much love to you and the family. Now onto that room tour! All the best / J
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it! Like you said, things like this really make you think and prioritize. I’m so grateful my wife made me go to the ER. I have no doubt she saved my life. And thanks so much for your comments here and on Facebook! They mean a lot to me!
Hope you recover very soon, scary to hear. Can only say , try to enjoy time with your family and friends and hopefully you can enjoy some music. Stay strong! all the best from me Rob
Thanks so much, Rob! I've been soaking up every bit of family time I can get, that's for sure. Now that I'm up and moving around more, I'm hoping to spend some good time in the music room too. Thanks for the comment, Rob! I appreciate it!
For some reason I knew I would get at least one thumbs down on this video, and TH-cam came through like always. Whoever it was, it’s all good. You must be in a rough spot. If you need to talk, I’m here.
Boy, how true that is! My daughter is 4 and has a big personality for such a little girl. It’s funny how much things used to grate on me and now I just smile and laugh. Things like this really open your eyes to how short life is. Time to soak it all in.

Bruce.
Thanks so much, Bruce! I appreciate it!
Matt you are in my prayers now. Get well with gods speed.
Thanks, Ron! I appreciate it!
Baby steps, day by day and you`ll be back on track pretty soon, but you will nerver be the same. You will appreciate life more which is a good thing.

Absolutely! Thanks so much! I really appreciate it!
Matt, so happy you are on the mend. Health scare is an understatement. Take care. - Zach
Thanks, Zach! I really appreciate it!
Hey Matt. It's nice to see you again.
Get well soon and best wishes.
Andy
Thanks, Andy! I appreciate it!
Hi Matt! So sorry to hear this, keep your chin up, glad your still with us. Life is fragile.
Thanks so much! I appreciate it!
Oh man, that’s so scary! I’m glad your wife took you in, best of luck, sucks to have to go through.
I am so sorry that happened Matt!!! Stay well and take care
Thanks, Richard! I appreciate it!
Hey Matt. It may have been weirder NOT to get emotional given your circumstance. Whew. Scary stuff, man. I've been a long time fan of your channel and always get a kick out of the hilarious and insightful energy you and Sam bring to the VC. Take care of yourself and rest easy, man.
Thanks so much! I really appreciate that! Means a lot to me!
Keep your chin up man. I would get emotional too. Spend as much time with your family and enjoy every day.
Thanks so much! I’m soaking up all the family time I can get right now. It’s the best medicine :)
It’s not been easy haha
Thanks for the comment and encouragement! I really appreciate it!
Long time viewer who never comments. Just want to wish you a speedy recovery, stay strong and don’t rush things. All the best
Thanks so much! Comments and encouragement mean the world to me right now so I appreciate you leaving a comment!
Good luck with your recovery.
Thank you so much!
Get better soon man, all the best
Thanks, Jesse! I appreciate it!
Glad you’re ok. Treasure your family and friends. Life is precious.
For sure, Mark! Thanks so much!
Time is the greatest healer, that and good music so don't give up on your records just yet! ;-)
Best,
John on the west coast waiting.
With time.
Best,
John
Thinkin bout you lots buddy. Thanx for sharing. 🐐
Thanks, Hussa! I appreciate it, brother!

Thanks, Alan! I appreciate it!
Maybe I’ll do one on my dvd/blu ray collection… :)
Thanks again for the comment! Means a lot to me!
@@sandsy04 be cool, I kind of fell off the record wagon and more into movies and stuff just because ultimately cheaper.
You can replace vinyl. You can't replace your life. Keep taking care of yourself.
So true! Thanks so much!
Sending good thoughts and positive healing energy from VT!
Thanks, Jack! That means a lot to me!
@@sandsy04 Yea I have to take blood thinners now too.
Awwww Matt thank you for sharing. Never commented on any of your vids. Just wanted to say hello and give you good thoughts.
This is the perfect time to start commenting :)

Hello Matt. Best wishes from Wales.
Thanks, Stephen! I appreciate it!
So glad you are doing better.
You're still very young so you will heal like new again in no time! Just stay positive.
Wow! Stay Strong! 🙏🏼🙏🏼

I wish all the best to you Matt, hold on.
Sorry to hear about your health issues, on the positive side it will help you prioritize your life, time is precious with friends and family
Boy, how true that is! My daughter is 4 and has a big personality for such a little girl. It’s funny how much things used to grate on me and now I just smile and laugh. Things like this really open your eyes to how short life is. Time to soak it all in.
