Yes, especially because many Christians accept evolution. I am Catholic and we fully embrace evolution. It is surprising to me how many Christians don't realize that some other branches of their faith family accept evolution.

They are so great! If you have a Costco membership, my Costco has a book called Brilliant Nature. It’s actually a compilation of The Magic and the Mystery of Trees and The Brilliant Book of Bugs for only $11.49! I didn’t see it until after I filmed this but totally picked it up!
Found a few gems from watching this video. Definitely added a few to my wishlist for homeschooling. I picked up a few from Usbourne books lately, Black Beauty, Heidi, and The Railay Children. I hope my daughter loves them as much as I did as a child. Be blessed!

I’ve been watching through a lot of book hauls and found every single one of my choices online secondhand which was such a blessing. Wide Eyed publishing is probably one of my new favorites. I’ve collected all of their geography books and just adore the illustrations. Will definitely have to grab the insect encyclopedia.

We are doing world geography and cultures this year too and we are super excited. I have all those books with the addition of world geography from master books, Africa is not a country you should totally get and houses around the world. Can't wait to see your family subjects video

We have a lot of overlapping books! We’re starting the year with a Botany study through Gather ‘Round and then we will do their birds and bugs studies. We have several of the plant and tree books you showed. Slow Down is my favorite! Another fun one you may want to check out is, Strange Trees. We also have the DK Art book and will be using that and Usborne’s music study book for part of our morning basket. I have Countries of the World and Amazing World Atlas on my wishlist. The Animal Stories book you showed looks neat!
Book hauls are my favorite!!! To go along with your world studies you should check out What the World Eats as well as Material World: A Global Family Portrait Both are so interesting and eye opening! I feel like they will also grow with my boys and we can dig deeper into them throughout the years. My boys are 8,7,5 and 2.

Loved this! I'm putting together my own geography/around the world stuff for my son this year and a lot of these books are on my list. Does the Lonely planet Atlas have animals in it as well? Thought about getting a book that shows animals around the world as we go through the continents.

Untill we buy a house I depend on the local library I made a list every month, and a specific date to put those on hold then pick them up... if I really like one I end up making a "to buy list" lol our little is big on forest wildlife and has decided he wants to be a wild life veternarian so we definitely will cater to that.
Great question! One publisher is DK, and the other is Lonely Planet, so I’ll abbreviate DK and LP to make typing on my phone easier, haha. As far as maps go, DK has physical maps of each continent and each individual country. LP has political continental and regional maps that also show some physical features. DK has themed snippets of information about each country, whereas LP has a paragraph or more written about each country. LP gives an overview of each continent and regions within that continent, whereas DK does not and solely focuses attention on individual countries. Both contain world maps, but DK’s is more detail-oriented and also includes a physical world map on the inside of the front cover. The inside back cover of the DK book also has all the countries’ flags, and the countries’ flags are pictured in their section of the book. LP has some of the country’s flags with their entry and a glossary of each country’s flag (with other statistics) in the back of the book. LP has a brief introduction to maps at the beginning of the book, whereas DK jumps straight into the content about each country. Both are great resources, and I know I’ll use them both. They are different enough that I don’t feel like it’s redundant to have both, but you could definitely get away with just using one. I prefer the maps in the DK book, but I appreciate the extra regional and continental detail in the LP book. Both have fantastic photography throughout, but their approach to the layout is very distinct from one another. I like that DK has each country’s flag included right on the page with its description. If you’d just want to purchase one, I’d highly recommend trying to get your hands on both from your library to see which one you prefer. If your library doesn’t have them available, you could order both from Amazon and return the one you decide against. Hope this helps!

Haha! I do hope to use many of these books for years! For science, we are using a literature and nature-based curriculum called The Organic Studies by Idlewild and Company. We are also adding in various nature study units throughout the year. I have many units from bundles I’ve purchased that I intend to use. Right now, we are using a portion of Gentle + Classical Nature. I also have plans for forest/trees, mini beasts, and spring themed nature study units.
I’ve posted my kindergarten and second grade choices but still need to post my family subjects. It’ll be up very soon! I made some changes but am actually hoping to film today.

Kindergarten and 2nd primarily, with the ability to “grow” with them and still be usable. My niece, who’s in ninth grade, will benefit from many of them, as well.

I fell in love with all these books of nature but I thought maybe they were too advanced for my daughter who should be starting 1st grade. I’d love to see how you incorporate them into your teaching.
I think some things could potentially be over their heads, but I love that we can focus on what works for us now and expand on ideas as they get older.

I love Julie Rothman we have all the books in the set. We used a few of those DK books in our trees unit study. The illustrations are beautiful.
Ocean Anatomy is the next Julia Rothman book on my list to get! And DK just does such a beautiful job with their books.
