Fwiw on an eg civic you can run the bigger rear drums off of a acura el and they are bolt on. Racing rules for chump world series pushed us in that direction with team scrap attack.

They won’t allow you guys to run rear disc?

@@Knownworldwide If you mod the car it affects the cost of the car so at the time no. To slip around that rule we got into the grey area by swapping larger drums, which did improve braking performance.
That ruling was eventually changed and when luck dog race series became a thing they implimented no penatlies to race teams for upgrading brakes. They justified it by saying it made the track event safer.
I would thing that tge rear disc swaps mostly happen for looks, then perhaps ease of servicing the brakes, and finally performance. I cant say that I have ever cooked off the rear brakes at a race event, but it is very easy to do at tight technical tracks like mission speedway in bc.

I see. Well at least someone was smart enough to get them to justify brake upgrades. For myself running an aggressive rear brake pad with help with trial braking into turns. Not to mention they don’t get nearly as hot as a drum setup can get.
