idk bruh... equating what the Leaf did to Naruto (idk... snarl at him when he was a kid?) to what the Leaf did to Sasuke (persecute his clan for generations, then use the backlash from that persecution as justification for murdering the entire clan.. making a member of the clan do the actual murder.. then tarnishing his name.. lying to everyone about it all.. leaving Sasuke with no means to deal with any of it, setting him on the path to kill his own brother.. meanwhile the village lives on laughing and smiling, living lives of comfort thanks to Itachi's torture and the clan's murder... while Danzo walks around with an arm full of eyes he plucked from Sasuke's dead cousins) is CRAZY to me. Expecting Sasuke to react to that stuff, the same way Naruto reacted to his stuff is actually insane to me. Those things are not even remotely close to the same order of magnitude.
This isn't the pity Olympics. Naruto was starved of human affection throughout his childhood, looked down on and mistrusted more than any Uchiha ever was, and his eventual fate if nothing changed was to be raised as an unthinking weapon for the village- he was, in effect, going to turn out like Gaara. A lot of Sasuke's 'vengeance' does not apply to the current leaf village: Danzo is dead, the Elders are out of power, even the Third Hokage is dead if you want to argue it's his fault despite him being the one person to stick up for the Uchiha. How many people remain that know the truth other than them? Very, very few. The villagers did much more to Naruto personally than they ever did to Sasuke. Random shop owners never knew about the Uchiha, but they also hated and refused to serve Naruto. If he can forgive them for actively hating him, what right does Sasuke have to punish them for something they didn't do or know about? As for Itachi... he chose this. He had the opportunity to destroy the village or run away with Sasuke, and he chose to suffer and die so that those people could live and laugh. Sasuke is doing nothing but spitting on his memory by using them as objects of vengeance. This is not to say that Sasuke cannot feel wronged or justified in his revenge, but trying to dismiss Naruto's experience because he didn't 'suffer enough' is the height of missing the point.
@@johnsmith-hn2vu it's not about a "pity Olympics". They're trying to put forward the idea that since Naruto came around and decided to be cool with the Leaf, then Sasuke should too.. and to me, that only works if you feel like they went through similar trials. And all that you wrote here.. idk.. is just a wild reading of the story to me. Like.. all of that only works if you look at things as narrowly as possible. If the only affront you're looking at is what specific people did specifically to each character.. then yeah, Naruto went through some shit, I guess. But everything Naruto went through was personal in nature. He wanted to be accepted. People didn't accept him. That hurt. The answer to that? People accept him! There it is. Happy ending. For Sasuke, it's just so much bigger than that. If you understand anything at all about the systems and structures surrounding the two characters (the structures, of course, being what Sasuke is MOST concerned with.. over and over he cites the village on the whole, and the shinobi system itself as the culprits.. even more than individual characters), then you HAVE to look at Sasuke as being concerned with what happened to his entire clan, not just to him personally. And as far as the culprits for that, it goes so much further than Hiruzen, Danzo, Koharu, and Homura. When Sasuke says that the *current* villagers are laughing at him.. he's RIGHT! The current villagers having scorn for Itachi, and getting to live lives of laughter and joy, is absolutely built on the murder of his clan. That is an affront SO MUCH WORSE than anything Naruto ever had to endure, and it's got nothing to do with Sasuke in some personal sense. If you try to boil this story down into who did what to whom personally... you're missing basically every bit of the story that's even remotely interesting. If we're just taking this personal angle, then what's Pain's story? What's Itachi's story? Well I guess you said your piece on Itachi; he chose it. That, to me...... is just a ridiculous take.. but go off. Itachi's story is so tragic because he was the fulcrum around which decades of actions and attitudes twisted. He "chose" his path, but he only got to choose between two excrutiating choices.. and the REASONS for those choices are what really matters. The real lasting outcomes of those choices is what really matters, and Itachi himself knew VERY well that Sasuke deciding to take vengeance on the Leaf was a highly probable outcome, because it is a REASONED outcome. Sasuke choosing to break down the structures that forced that choice on to his brother is not just a justified answer, it is a GREAT answer, because it actually addresses the core of the problem: the village and the system itself. Not a few people's personal choices. Real question here: how does Sasuke just.. idk.. returning to the Leaf and being cool with it all.. how does that solve any of the issues at the core of his storyline? For Naruto, his core issue was loneliness and lack of acceptance. The answer to that is friendship. For Sasuke, the loneliness was ancillary.. the core issues for Shippuden Sasuke are lies, betrayal, persecution of his clan, and what it means to be on the shit end of decisions for a "greater good" that nobody can really define. How does one cope with the idea that your entire clan was eradicated, and your brother was tortured and shamed to clean up generations of malpractice from the village itself? How is returning to be a tool for the structure that perpetrated that resolve his character's core issues at all?
@@kleatise52 empathy for what? People didn't fuck with Naruto. That's the extent of it. There's nothing bigger there. Was it fucked? Yeah of course. Naruto fans are so limited in their attempt to understand things… they literally think this is the struggle Olympics as if their struggles can all be weighed on a similar scale. One isn’t worse in every way than the other- they’re similar but different. In the real world, EVERYONE has different traumas and thus process things differently - it doesn’t make one less valid than the other Naruto’s attempt to reach out and understand despite not having the exact same pain yet similar pain is the beauty of the show’s character writing. He’s taken everything in stride and isn’t casting pure judgement on Sasuke like everyone else justifiably is atp - he’s trying to break the cycle of hate. I could write more because i love this stuff but it’s too much on the phone
8:20 that is the same way of thinking that keeps the cycle of hatred going. It's what Naruto is fighting against. When you give up on hope, you end up like Sasuke and Gaara did.
